Salubfoto It's an amazing and heartbreaking story.
Kamila Bell This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Rexanne It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
HotToastyRag Dad's Army is one of those adorable, "old guys still got it" movies that comes out every once in a while, sprinkled in among the "let's make fun of old people" movies that are never any good. Starring Bill Nighy, Toby Jones, Michael Gambon, Tom Courtenay, and Bill Paterson, a group of over-the-hill volunteers is in charge of protecting their town during WWII. No one really takes them seriously, and when Catherine Zeta-Jones shows up and starts charming everyone in the regiment, that doesn't make them any more credible. This is a very cute movie and has plenty of classic British gags, if you like that type of humor. If you usually groan and try to avoid British humor-and if you prefer your leading men to be under fifty-you probably won't like this one. I thought it was adorable, and I always find Bill Nighy dashing, no matter what age he is. Plus, when you least expect it, you get to watch a very exciting and suspenseful battle scene!
luke-285 Oh wow.Where to start?Awful plot, so bad and cringeworthy that it is not worthy of the term plot. There are the lame jokes which we expect, the prat falls which we also expect. What is missing is any sense of narrative.this is ninety minutes of my life I cannot get back..Don't bother.
David Jemitus I enjoyed the old Dad's Army series but was never a die hard fan of it.The new film is pleasant and full of great actors but I only laughed once (near the end of the film) and found it rather disappointing. The new actors did a good job of reprising the characters except for Toby Jones as Captain Mainwaring didn't work. The one exception was Annette Crosbie and Julia Foster who looked like they had a great time making the film and made the most of their tiny presence of screen. However the other actors were largely wasted by average (and unfunny) dialogue and a dull interpretation of the story. Many things are best left with the originals only and that's certainly true in this case.
FlashCallahan Anybody who has followed that strange sub-genre of having T.V series made into big screen outings, will know that the road travelled since Holiday On The Buses has been long and arduous to say the least. Not including Hollywood remakes of T.V. shows, I cannot recall one single film in this sub-genre to be anything other than below average. You may argue that The Inbetweeners Movie is the exception to the rule, but it made a huge amount of money thanks to it's release date being at the same time where groups of friends were just coming off their holidays, and or just waiting to start University. The only one that really is worth seeing is Kevin And Perry Go Large, which The Inbetweeners Movie ripped off 11 years later. And despite the absolute pedigree of the cast, Dad's Army firmly places itself into same old, same old, for the genre.so the plot of the film is as follows. The home guard are given the task of finding an enemy mole in their midst, and just as they are given their orders, they bump into Catherine Zeta-Jones, who just coincidentally happens to be at the right place at the right time to have the majority of the group fall for her....It's really no surprise as to whom the mole is, and despite the best efforts of the cast, who really give their all with the torrid script, it offers nothing but 'hilarious' confusion, people hiding behind couches, and some of the worst innuendo i've seen in a mainstream release in a very long time.To hear the line 'you've just slipped her a sausage' aimed at a butcher, brought back memories of Carry On Columbus, and that is the film that resurrected that beloved franchise just to kill it just that little bit more.Kudos to the makers though, it does feel authentic, right down to the old fashioned green screen they use when they are driving down a country road, it does look like their is a war going on.Devoid of humour, decent comedy, and a finale that is about as exciting as playing spot the current, when purchasing a Chelsea Bun, Dad's Army fails to live up to it's cast.
