Guillelmina The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
Python Hyena Cry Wolf (2005): Dir: Jeff Wadlow / Cast: Julian Morris, Jared Padalecki, Lindy Booth, Jon Bon Jovi, Sandra McCoy: Stupid, stupid, stupid, STUPID horror film about telling one too many lies. One of those lies was the filmmakers claiming that this was worthwhile entertainment. After a murder occurs at a university a group of students play a murder game but actual murders do transpire. Contrived formula with a complete idiotic ending. Director Jeff Wadlow makes good use of lighting on the location but the cast play off the biggest bunch of jackasses since the last dumb horror film. Julian Morris arrives new on campus and gets caught up in this idiotic game. How unfortunate for her that it involves being caught on camera during the making of this film. Jared Padalecki and Lindy Booth play moron students taking part in this game because they have nothing better to do. Jon Bon Jovi appears as one of the teachers and this certainly will not go down as a positive career move. He should record a song for this film and call it "You Give Horror Films a Bad Name." Its whole rumor message was dealt with much more successfully in the teen film Gossip, which is a far better viewing experience. That film dealt with the issue of gossip and the whole cry wolf syndrome in a much more effective and entertaining way. Don't cry wolf. Scream for a better horror film. Score: 3 / 10
thekarmicnomad This is a great little film but personal preference will play a major part in your enjoyment. Some kids make up a story and now it looks like a killer is running amok or is it all a big joke? Not amazingly original but it is a well tested formula that works. The characters are stereotypes but don't think of this as a trashy Hollywood slasher. There are no guys with JOCK on their jersey or pot smoking Rastafarians to be seen. Here is the deal maker/breaker; this film has a long, gentle burn, meaning you don't see anyone get exposed to anything pointy until the later portion of the film. If you are after a quick slasher fix this will seem very dull and slow. If you are feeling a bit more patient then this is perfect.Lindy Booth steals the show as the vixen amongst the wolves but all performances are more than adequate. There's a bit of a twist near the end but it is unlikely to surprise you.Gore, nudity and bad language are negligible- you can watch this with your gran.
Scarecrow-88 "This is high school. Nothing's for real."Spoilers galore. Cry_Wolf was made and released at a peculiar time in horror. 2005 was kind of a bridge between the Scream phase of "safe" horror in regards to the lack of violence on screen, as not permitted if you market the film to a larger audience (yet, following the mold of "who is the killer?" and satirizing the slasher genre), and the "grindhouse", blood and guts of Zombie and Eli Roth. The problem with this film is that the lead "final guy" is pretty gullible and easily manipulated. Anyone could see that red-headed hottie, Dodger (Lindy Booth) is *forbidden fruit*. She just doesn't look trustworthy, and I think anyone somewhat together can see Dodger might be the culprit arranging the whole scenario that is the genesis of the movie's stalk-n-slash formula. I dig the look of the "killer", though, and think he's menacing in appearance. The orange ski mask, the hunting knife, camouflage jacket, and the imposing build, I think the person known under the created moniker "The Wolf" is quite an impressive sight. I think one might consider Cry_Wolf the Scream Generation's "April Fool's Day". You see how everyone in the film's little group are puppets on a string and just guess who the puppeteer is? I think many of us can see who that is and yet Owen, and those of the Dodger gang, is jerked around with relative ease. The plot concerns a prank where the proponent is who has the superior skill of lying. A murder outside of a prestigious high school is the inspiration for a spread rumor that the Wolf could be among them. Dodger motivates Owen to spread it, and the two of them detail the killer. Soon, it appears that a real killer, dressed exactly as described by The Wolf, is hunting Dodger's band of preppies. We follow Owen, a Brit who has caused so much mischief he is on probation with this new school being his possible last resort, not to mention his businessman father won't even return his calls, as he tries to unearth the killer and stop him/her. But could appearances be deceiving? I just kept wondering how Owen could be so stupid, but he sure is played like a fiddle. The reason behind the initial murder and all of the shenanigans involving The Wolf (there is an actual ulterior motive regarding teacher Bon Jovi) will come to fruition. Cry_Wolf uses Saw as a model in regards to a particular character pulling the strings behind all that takes place while also informing us of how it all took place. I guess whether or not this is successful to you depends on if the outcome and all that it took to get to it wash. I had a hard time seeing how Owen (and others) could be so manipulated, but the film's point is that the game has a victor and to the victor are the spoils. Before hitting it big on the show Supernatural, Jared Padalecki has parts in movies like this and the House of Wax remake. Julian Morris has plenty of vulnerability and arrogance in equal measure, the perfect foil for a delectable female con artist.
petailss "Cry Wolf" is a good game of intrigue that doesn't become surprising when you remember it all started with a game of lies created by bored students. Not very original for those who saw "April Fool's Day" as they are quite similar. Especially at the end. All starts with a death and unknown murder, called by the people of the small town of Cry Wolf. A new student arrives at school and know the leader of a youth group that join to play games every night. Before long they decide to make a game with the whole school. A game about Cry Wolf. As interesting the plot look like be, it doesn't excite much, except for the final. Well, in short, the end is the better film. There isn't a suspense as decent as "My Bloody Valentine", but worth as short entertainment. Good performances, very simple deaths, and Bon jovi's optimal actuation in movies. For fans of suspense, might be a good choice, for fans of too deaths and blood in movies, it can leave much to be desired.
