Plantiana Yawn. Poorly Filmed Snooze Fest.
Donald Seymour This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
Tymon Sutton The acting is good, and the firecracker script has some excellent ideas.
Sarita Rafferty There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
Spikeopath Starring Adam Sandler and Damon Wayans, the former a criminal, the latter a cop, plot sees the mismatched pair thrust together to bring down a criminal kingpin (James Caan). So it's all set up nicely for a high energy action comedy from the realm of buddy buddy bonanza. Sadly it has energy to burn but the execution of the comedy is weak to the point the makers have to resort to the base level of comedy writing to try and get laughs. The odd line raises a chuckle, but quite often this is followed by a period of inanity, which in turn is followed by a ballsy action sequence (the makers very aware they quickly need to keep the demographic genre fans back on the clock). All this while a budding bromance - that's coupled with some lame homophobic undertones (a revolver up the butt gag? Seriously?) - threatens to turn it into the Brokeback Mountain of the buddy buddy action genre of film. Hell! the screenplay even has the whiff of misogyny about it. The stars are badly served by poor writing and direction, but they themselves are guilty of offering up a chemistry free movie that dulls the senses during all the interim talking sequences. It's hard to believe this is the same pair of actors who have The Wedding Singer and The Last Boy Scout on their respective curricula vitae. This is a waste of talent and a wasted opportunity for something fun and exciting. A pic only marginally saved by its shoot-outs and fisticuffs (for the so inclined of course). Oh and what was James Caan thinking? Working for food or what? 5/10
Predrag Adam Sandler does it again, with another fun movie! This one is action-packed, and a great buddy movie. Damon Wayans is excellent in this film as well, and the two together make for a fun memorable show. Bulletproof is a silly comedy with some pretty bad acting over all. Despite that, this will go down in history as one of my favorites. This was Adam Sandler's first attempt at making a more serious role. But it's a really fun easy going movie at a running time that couldn't offend anybody. It a load of old cobblers plot wise, and the buddy buddy thing was dying a death, but the two leads are amiable enough and Caan wasn't too bad as the villain. It's not very memorable though, and it's full of clichés, but for Sandler fans and Wayans fans, this will suffice.Overall rating: 7 out of 10.
Python Hyena Bulletproof (1996): Dir: Ernest Dickerson / Cast: Damon Wayans, Adam Sandler, James Caan, Kristen Wilson, James Farentino: Here is yet another rehash of what has been done countless times before. Title represents a relationship that has gone through tremendous difficulty due to broken trust and lifestyles. It stars Damon Wayans as an undercover cop who grows fond of a street criminal, played by Adam Sandler until he is discovered wired. Police invade the location and bullets fly and Sandler accidentally shoots Wayans in the head in an attempt to escape. He recovers in the hospital with a metal plate in his head then he is assigned to transport Sandler until a parade of bullets intercede leaving them as lone survivors. The rest is formula with an ending similar to that of The Rock. Basically a series of corny situations to test Wayans's tolerance of Sandler. Directed by Ernest Dickerson who previously made the controversial Juice, and here does his best with the stale material. Wayans and Sandler travel material that nearly every buddy comedy duo sets foot on. James Caan is typecast as the villain. Kristen Wilson is also wasted, as is James Farentino as Wayans's superior officer who orders the transfer. Typical buddy comedy that is hardly bulletproof. Perhaps the best idea would be to use this film as target practice just to see whether its title stands. Score: 3 / 10
DigitalRevenantX7 Drug runner Archie Moses introduces his friend Rock Keats to his boss, drug kingpin Frank Colton. Unknown to Moses, Keats is actually an undercover police officer. During the bust on Colton's factory, Moses accidentally shoots Keats in the head. He survives the wound & later arrests Moses. Dodging Colton's hired assassins, the duo must overcome their mutual hatred to survive.Adam Sandler's films are usually a hit-&-miss affair, with his comedies either loved by his fans or hated by everyone. This one is not as stupid as his other films, but still cannot overcome a lazy script. The direction is incredibly patchy, with fast-paced action sequences giving way to slow comic exchanges between Sandler & Damon Wayans. Some of the action scenes – flying a plane with no engines, a car chase at night through a forest – are quite absurdly contrived. The acting is the standard for this genre, with Sandler & Wayans making a good pairing. In short, the film is dumb but fun to watch.Grade: C+ Review by M. K. Geist
