Claysaba Excellent, Without a doubt!!
ThedevilChoose When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
Scarlet The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Pjtaylor-96-138044 'Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero (1998)' is more of a continuation of 'Batman: The Animated Series (1992)' than a proper stand-alone feature and, as such, doesn't introduce or even really develop any of its characters. They're all close to their usual incarnations, though, which means even those unfamiliar with the show should find their footing fairly fast, if they know at least one previous version of these players. Mr. Freeze is really the star here, as the antagonist is given a clear motive and some nice characterisation that makes him more than the typical 'bad-guy' fare. This is usually the case, as the cold character has a clear driving-force that means he is just as likely to team up with the caped crusader as try to freeze him solid, and he has consistently been one of Batman's better villains - aside from in 'Batman & Robin (1997)' - ever since his character has been fully figured out. The overall narrative is a little messy, however. It's marred by frequent and long fade-to-black 'chapter breaks', from the piece's original television airing, and leans a little into the 'damsel in distress' cliché, though this 'damsel' does fight every step of the way aside from in the initial kidnapping sequence. It also features bizarrely little of the dark knight for a picture that bares his name. Emphasis is placed on the set-up and subsequent detective work, making for an unconventional structure that doesn't really feel so much a feature as an extended television episode. Still, the unconventional approach and less focus on fisticuffs is slightly refreshing; the piece remains and intriguing and entertaining watch throughout. The consistently noir-ish and sometimes awe-inspiring animation brings our hero, his friends and his foes to life with a beautiful verve that's only sometimes besmirched by odd and out-of-place, if occasionally slightly effective, 3D elements. This makes the flick a feast for the eyes even with its basic, slightly 'Scooby-Doo', art-style and adds a lot of value to the already engaging adventure. 6/10
Mr-Fusion For me, "SubZero" is mostly about context. This is a Mr. Freeze story by the people behind "Batman: TAS", so you know it's top-shelf. And, coming a year after "Batman and Robin" was like a salve for Schwarzenegger's portrayal. Context also applies to the CGI use. Back in '98, it looked pretty good (at the very least, expensive). Despite its aging, it was good for the time. The only real complaint I have is the the abbreviated running time. Shorter even than "Mask of the Phantasm", the clipped pacing doesn't allow for much in the way of character development. But the animation is strong, and so is the action; particularly the submarine opening and Dick's chase with Freeze. There's great imagery in this movie and I love that Freeze has polar bear henchmen. It's a little touch, but man, does it work.7/10
tankace Batman: Subzero is the second film of the Dc animated universe after Mask of the Phantasm and although it is dated a little for toady'd standards, it makes up for it with (a) an entailing story, (b) well made and realistic characters (!) and (c) an antagonist ,who is motivated by love, the real Mr. Freeze. This flick was at first planned to be released in 1997, but due to the massive back lash, which the abomination Batman and Robin received the date went back a whole year! Now Let's dive in to the main components that make it so good. Starting with (a) the story. We follow Doctor Victor Freeze , who is desperate to find a donor of his wife in order to save her and for that he devise a plan in order to find a suitable donor and fast.So he abducts Barbara Gordon AKA Batgirl and it is up to the Boy Wander and the Knight of Gotham City to find her. OK, the story may lacks some originality, but its job of make you understand why everyone do what his or her is doing, so we are fine hereTo the (b) realism of the Characters, I want to emphasize here for that animated video movie was more realistic from its live action counterpart. Every character needs are logical and even the design of Gotham feels like an metropolis buzzing around the clock, which is awesome. To the "villain" of the film (!),Mr. Freeze, I am a big fan of this guy and here they show really well ,that his criminal actions aren't due to his greed, need of vengeance or ego ,he does them for his wife .Also the fact that he can' hag her o kiss makes you at times feel bad for the fellow and I was rooting for him to get what he wanted. Final and Bonus fact the animation. Two are the facts that decrease the quality of the movie from an awesome story to a solid, decent one. The first is the unoriginal of the story and the other the animation it isn't as top notes as an animated film of that universe needs to be. The reason for that is that the Bruce Tim's team tried to use some CGI 'in to the designs and remember it is 1998 and cgi is not a evolve as now ,so that is the reason. But it isn't awful at least, it is just fine.In the end although dated, the film is the best interpretation of Mr. Freeze so far and I wish this one will inspire the Warner Bros. to make it in a big Budget live action film, somewhere after the Justice League movies for it is a shame to not give a chance to doctor Victor.
RainDogJr This time Batman is not the protagonist. That doesn't mean anything since I don't found in Batman the protagonist of the fantastic The Dark Knight. I love many enemies of the superheroes and for sure they can be really great characters. This one-hour movie is about Mr. Freeze, basically we see him as a desperate man trying to save his wife. We have pretty much a great premise for animated Batman stuff that must be somehow special and not only because of the longer runtime. It's great because we have an enemy who is not "working" and is having calm days. Is basically for an accident that Mr. Freeze is in Gotham again, now really desperate. So it's great because we know that Mr. Freeze will do anything in order to save his wife and because we know that at one point Batman and pals will be the only ones who can stop Mr. Freeze. Here the "romance" between Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon will place them as the protagonist of the first part of the movie and also the relevant fact that Mr. Freeze's wife needs a transplant and Mr. Freeze is also considering living persons so Barbara is the target. Coincidence or whatever but with the Batgirl as prisoner Mr. Freeze will not have exactly an easy time and eventually he will end practically as a victim! One the other hand we have our two heroes having basically the normal routine and everything is just too straight. By the end we have that Barbara never had real problems even that she was kidnapped with a desperate Mr. Freeze and that the real problem was the place where Mr. freeze was living. This movie could have been much better and more special since it was a great premise to have the enemy in a more human situation that still will put some lives in danger. The final scene is great on that way not showing Mr. Freeze but Victor Fries finally watching what he was fighting for as a true event. I do liked this movie but just that. I could purchase its DVD for a very low price and it was a worthy purchase.
