Pluskylang Great Film overall
GazerRise Fantastic!
StyleSk8r At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
Billy Ollie Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
Paul Magne Haakonsen When I sat down to watch "Alien Lockdown" (aka "Creature"), I hadn't even heard about the movie, nor did I even know who starred in it. I will say that when I saw John Savage's name on the screen, I felt that there was potential for the movie being adequate. It should be said that "Alien Lockdown" is a low budget movie. And while that is being said, I will also have to say that I have seen far worse low budget sci-fi horror movies than this one.The movie is about some alien creature going on a rampage in an isolated facility, and a group of highly trained soldiers are sent in to take care of the situation. However, they come to learn some dark truths and find that all are not playing on the same team. The creature or alien in the movie was a strange hybrid of three already famous movie monsters; the xenomorph (from the "Alien" franchise), the Yautja (the predator creature from the "Predator" franchise) and the Brundlefly (from "The Fly"). And truth be told, then it actually worked out well enough, despite it not really being all that menacing or having quite enough time on the screen. As for the acting in the movie, well people were doing good jobs with their given roles, and it was indeed John Savage (playing Dr. Woodman) and Michelle Goh (playing Talon) whom stood out as the most memorable performances in the movie. There is a good amount of action throughout the movie, but it just doesn't make up for the low budget feel to the movie. All in all, a less than average sci-fi horror movie, but it is worth watching a single time if you have nothing else at hand.
TheLittleSongbird I will say that I was expecting little from Alien Lockdown(or PredatorMan), but I was expecting something watchable with perhaps a guilty pleasure vibe. Instead I got a film that wasn't just worse than I anticipated but also a terrible movie. Is it the worst movie I've seen? No. But it is one of the worst movies I've seen in recent memory. Alien Lockdown is a badly made movie with editing so rapid that it makes some scenes close to incomprehensible, uninteresting scenery and artificial-looking effects. The script is ridiculous in a laughable sense, the "this is a morality tale" conversation between Talon and Woodman is especially true of this. The music is poor, overbearing and with a sluggish, harsh quality to it, while the story revolving around a concept that has been done to death is dull and predictable with only the atmospheric(in comparison) climax) livening things up. The characters are badly written clichés, just how many times do we need the mad scientist type of character. The acting fares little better, James Marshall and John Savage deserve much better than they had, Savage is not too bad actually but he is riddled with some of the film's worst dialogue, while Michelle Goh is completely unbelievable as the Lucy Liu/Ellen Ripley-esquire heroine. Overall, a groan-inducingly-terrible film. 1/10 Bethany Cox
mikkelbreiler There is a lot wrong with this movie. It appears as a very low budget movie, so you cannot sit back and let the details get you a second time, once is enough. Unfortunately the plot makes it a bit difficult to get sympathy for the right people and the editing makes it hard to watch and keep feeling like there is a story to be told and unfold in front of you.If there was any acting going on at the shoots it is chopped up by the pace of the editing, if they needed the film to be any shorter why not cut down on the cast before having them killed off one by one. This would give us time to bond more with some of those who last a little longer. The action appears too fast, and forced. I had hopes the second half will wrap it up and leave me an impression that the director wanted to make a movie but was simply working with his hands tied. As it is all the dialog doesn't help to build a belief in the characters nor does it seem to come natural. The team leader is pretty but does not come off as authority. When the movie was over it just felt cheesy and a waste of the acting skills involved. What is the point of looking for skilled actors like John Savage and James Marshall both of whom can do much better than this. As it is working with low budget the set designer and set decorator have managed to build a setup that is well made but which the director insisting on having the actors run fast through all the time, the viewer is not left with the impression of how big the compound is, both because where others film have managed to far more from a small set to work with there really isn't much to this story other than running from room to room with some desperate attempt at dialog none of which becomes very involving at any stage. The girl who plays the lead does as best she can, though the bags under her eyes is a distraction of what is otherwise a very beautiful face that would be better used with some early coupling of emotion in the movie, in particular with the code breaker character, who I felt was a misplaced character. It would be better to have him having been a new science officer arriving after an incident involving the death of someone close to the alien, a person whose eyes we see the first part through, one who felt bad about the situation and offers to help the team out rather than criminalizing him. He could just be the right guy at the wrong place. As it turns out he has his own part in the plot which is disturbing the way it is played out.The end is really Hollywood with some gory effect scenes that are just way to poorly made, and a death scene that is shown too long for anyone not to notice the inadequate effects budget.Perhaps another choice of director, adjustments to the plot and a real going over the effects budget and less footage of the grown alien would have saved this movie.Ironically the alien creature offered in this movie looks too much like a Predator that walks on all four legs. But there is no pedigree involved other than looks, the predator creature that has served two independent films and showdown movies with the H.R.Giger Alien creature, all of which are above this level. The film will kill 90 minutes, and it is hardly possible to escape the cringing feeling by fast forwarding at any point unless you do not mind the rapidly decreasing number of team members or what became of them. Though most die due to the alien..... It is a shoot'em'up'n'die'fast movie but it is rough on the eyes and brain.
ghoulieguru Oh, you silly Mad Military Scientists... when will you ever learn? How many experiments have to go awry? Why do you continue to use genetic manipulation and MavGyver technology to build creatures that are meant to be the new "Ultimate Weapon" ? Going by movies like this one, you'd think that somehow a rampant lizard-ape- thing would be more effective than a nuclear bomb. But these silly Mad Military Scientists can't ever seem to even keep their eye on these creatures long enough to unleash them on the enemy. Their creations invariably escape and start running around, and the Silly Mad Military Scientists watch with a mixture of horror and admiration as their reptilian problem child rips through battalions of screaming army folks. The latest entry in the Saga of the Silly Mad Military Scientists: ALIEN LOCKDOWN!So, the Mad Scientist in this one is played by John Savage, who meanders through the movie with a confused look on his face, as if he's wondering where Jessica Alba went to and why his agent agreed to let him do this NuImage movie. He's building some kind of alligator-alien-guy and... get ready for the spoiler.... it escapes!Enter the screaming soldiers! Yay!These guys rush into the fray as if they've never seen a movie about a genetic experiment gone bad! With so much gusto! They do a lot of military-style chatter that was probably meant to make the movie feel "gritty" or "real". There are also a couple of heartwarming moments where the soldiers take time out from the battle to tell each other about their more human side. It's supposed to make you care more about them, I think. I was reminded of Phoebe Cates in Gremlins when she starts talking about how her dad got stuck in the chimney on Christmas Eve and died. Honestly, I don't understand why people in these movies decide to start divulging their deepest, darkest secrets at the worst possible moment. Anyway, so these screaming soldiers take time from being killed to discuss their issues with each other.John Savage continues to admire his creation, and he seems to be trying to channel the Brad Dourif character from Alien: Resurrection. In fact, this movie is a weird kind of potpourri of all the Alien movies rolled into one. Eventually, all the little screaming soldiers get picked off, leaving a lone female. Hmmm. I wonder where the writers got that one? And speaking of writers, I saw that it took the brain power of three people just to come up with the story! And then there were another two who wrote the script! It's hard to believe that it took five people to come up with this derivative pile of monkey poop. It is nothing more than the most recent entry into a very tired sub-genre of the Horror/Science Fiction pantheon. Which leaves me asking the question I started with, you silly Mad Military Scientists, when will you ever learn? Unfortunately, I think the answer is, "Not as long as people like you continue to watch movies about us." Maybe it's time we retired the scientists... what do you all think?
