Matho The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.
Jerseycarp Anyone who rated this 1 star probably never gave it a chance, or thought this would be exactly like some other Van Helsing story or show. Its not and that's what makes this show special. 1 Star should only be reserved for low budget, b style productions. This is clearly a 5-10 Star show depending if it's your style or not. 1 Star ratings are for haters, the movie "showgirls" isn't even a 1, and that was a train wreck. Give it a chance, there are many talented people working on this show. People who produce great sci-fi content. If you enjoyed watching Stargate Atlantis and The Walking Dead like me, this show will satisfy you I promise. I would rate this show at a 7-8 Star, but with all the ridiculous 1 stars I graded it higher. You know, to cancel out all the haters.
vatigue Yes. I only watched the first episode. I used to watch 3 to 4 episodes before rating a series. But after watching the first episode of Van Helsing I already was done for. The first episode showed me clichéd characters, bad acting, extremely bad camera-work and an aftertaste of a really bad 70's B-movie. There is stuff out there more worth your while. The take on the Van Helsing story had me checking it out. But it is really that bad. I will not bother with any more episodes than the first.
milesbolland I won't bother writing out a premise. All I will say is that having made it more than halfway through the first series I'm giving up. The main character is dull and annoying, the supporting characters are bland and the writing is just terrible. The only faces you care about belong to the recognisable actors, having some form of talent to be able to portray a character. The rest could be replaced by anyone else and I doubt I'd notice. The vampires themselves are mildly interesting, however at this point I simply don't care. The premise was interesting enough but seemed to be thought up and written by someone who likes to explain things by going "because reasons". Vanessa (the post-apocalyptic superwoman it seems) is poorly acted, badly written, oddly overpowered and just flat out annoying. The show had promise. That promise is dead now.
llclark-717-886769 The series started out intriguing but by the end of season one, everything about it began to feel lazy. To be honest I seriously considered not continuing watching it anymore. However... I gave it another try in season two, and you probably should too. The second season was a whole new show. The vampires are way less campy, they finally stop killing off characters willy nilly and actually start to develop them. The writing still deals out a few eye-rollers, but compared to the end of the first season, its bearable. For me the saving grace was keeping/bringing back the enjoyable characters. I was so disappointed at Sam's vampire character at the end of season one...Christopher Hayerdahl being probably the best actor in the show, his turn to a ghost faced, over-the-top vamp that chases them through the forest and not much else was very disappointing. However in season two he becomes a pretty terrifying creep (in a great way) and we are able to finally see his acting skills. Same case with Axel's character. There are no strong male lead roles without him so it would have been a big mistake to off him (like it seemed they were going to). In season two he returns to hold the show together both as a tortured vamp and his charming human self. The other thing that saved the show is that it felt like it started to take itself a little less seriously. There were some pretty funny lines to be found, and the overly intense and down-right irritating head vampires are either toned down, turned into interesting human characters, or killed off. It will be interesting to see what direction they head in season three...it could go either way, but heres hoping they ride the momentum from season two and continue to improve the characters and dialogue.
