davidviera-41167 Yeah this type of idea of a guy who created Ren and Stimpy is something you really didn't expect to turn out to be like this I'll give some credit for giving some good slapstick and story concept but most of the animation is done too cheap by using Flash animation making it less and less of a classic show and more of a different cartoon even though there's some good things in it a lot of it doesn't seem to be done right but like you'd expect Tom and Jerry classic films will always outstand the Reboots. (But not the Tom and Jerry Tales version that one was pretty good)
Trombone77 Pros: 1) Stays true to origins: People complained about Scooby-Doo: Mystery Inc. and The Looney Tunes Show not staying to its original formula (although I kind of liked the ongoing mystery in the former). However, not many people can complain that this series doesn't stray from the formula. You still have cat chases mouse. You even have some of the same sound effects.2) Still tries something new: While Tom and Jerry have stories with the same formula, it also isn't afraid of trying stories with something new. I especially enjoy the detective stories, since we see another side of Tom and Jerry.3) Not too annoying: The problem I find with some of the current animated series are how annoying they can be. I might be wrong, but I don't find that problem in this series.Cons: 1) Animation and art style: I will admit, this is probably the weakest point. The animation and art style is cheap. However, I think maybe the reason is that there isn't that much of a demand for slapstick humor as it was in the original's time of release. More effort is being put into dude-bro, dumb, and internet humor (don't ask me why). This might be why Tom and Jerry suffered so much in this series. Plus, with the fact that this show was announced a while ago (around the time Green Lantern: The Animated Series premiered), it must have been in storage for a while. Still, I don't think this is a legitimate reason to stop watching the show.2) Still have some jerk characters and punching bag characters: I think this is just a problem that plagues the whole franchise (or at least the series following the original), but Jerry is always made out to be the good guy, despite sometimes going too far with his gags, and Tom is made out to be the bad guy, despite sometimes not even agitating Jerry.All-in-all, it is still a watchable series. I can see it lasting WB Animation obligatory 52 episodes. I know it is being burned off as I type, but maybe its season 2 can be on Boomerang.
Otavio-clubpenguin OK, surely the MGM Tom and Jerry Cartoons can be better than this adaptation, but I think this is a cool show! To be honest, I Think this one is better than all of the previous Tom and Jerry for television adaptations. It's Supperior than Tom and Jerry tales in one important aspect : The Slapstick. It's far more better, Tom now chases Jerry with an axe, a thing that, I believe, would be impossible too see in Tom and Jerry tales, that had the violence toned down. And talk about a great music! It gets that "Scott Bradley" vibe, it fits the action, and it also got that Jazzy feeling that were present in the originals. And if you think that the story can be predictable, Tom wins in the first episode, like, right in the first episode. And there are times that they both lose, and there are times that Jerry Wins. You get curious at what is going to happen. And the setup is nice too! We got Tom and Jerry as detectives for the first time, this idea was never used in other adaptations AND the originals.Yeah, Yeah, everyone criticizes the Animation, and I can kind of understand why, but it's something new, you guys should give it a chance, it's most of the time well drawn and got the expressions right! And the characters have that "solid" feeling, they don't stretch a lot, and they also don't get too quiet, just like the Originals. My only complaint is that they got Toots'(The female cat that appeared in "Puss N' Toots " and "The Mouse comes to Dinner") name wrong, in a episode she's called Toodles, and Toodles is that white female cat that appeared in "Springtime for Thomas" and "Casanova Cat".But other than that, it's a funny show and you guys should take a time to watch it, but not trying to find something wrong in it. You'll see that it's a nice show! For A Tom and Jerry fan, it's a must watch!
ikrani Seriously, after years of cheap flash animation replacing cel and CGI on the CN airwaves, did you really expect Warner Bros to honor the legacy of the late great William Hanna and Joseph Barbera? Did you really expect them to make a clever slapstick-powered comedy cartoon that DIDN'T cut corners to lower costs?I only saw the first episode, and I'm very disappointed. Gone is the well-thought out comedy that made Hanna and Barbera's classic shorts genius, to be replaced by half-baked gags that miss every opportunity to make me laugh. Gone is the exaggerated style of Hanna, Barbera, and even Chuck Jones, to be replaced by the same watered-down flash animation Warner Bros execs have a fetish for. It is not a good sign when a college student with little more than colored paper, a tripod-mounted camera, and limited stop-motion programming can make a more entertaining short than a show produced by one of the wealthiest cinema companies in the world.I would comment more on the writing, as no doubt people are thinking, "But cartoons don't need to be well-animated to be good, just well-written," if not for the fact that this animation is so lazy that it's distracting. When Tom was making trouble for Spike (the dog), all I was thinking was, "That hand fan from three scenes ago kept changing shape..." In a slapstick cartoon, good animation is a must if one wants to properly convey the hyperactive antics of one's characters, something Warner Bros seems to have forgotten. What I can say on the writing is that it's far less family-friendly than the originals. Yes, the originals had Tom smoking and setting up death traps and chasing girl cats, but he can get away with that since he's the pseudo-villain of the duo. And, at the end of each episode, he always got his just desserts. Here, however, Tom's underhanded tactics and morally wrong behavior actually win out over the innocent and well-meaning Spike, who is punished not once but TWICE for Tom's actions. What kind of message does THAT send: that it's okay to wreck your house and make a mess of the tableware as long as you have a scapegoat to pin the blame on?Also, Tom no longer has the same yell. ... Oh God, it's Tom and Jerry The Movie all over again!
