GrimPrecise I'll tell you why so serious
Borserie it is finally so absorbing because it plays like a lyrical road odyssey that’s also a detective story.
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
sajeannekozi Nothing like turning on the TV & watching the horrors of the workplace to relax?! What happened to smart coworker shows? What happened to smart workers in the stores we shop in? Why do they make shows about the worst part of everyone's day? I can't understand watching a show that makes you cringe over & over again; which this show does. Shopping at Walmart is convenient but miserable at the same time. Watching this show stresses me out! If it were my job, I'd find a new one. Clearly, I'm done with this garbage.
happysteve-26793 I will preface this by saying that Superstore is not a bad show, it's actually a decent modern sitcom. At the same time one cannot help but to compare Superstore to other popular modern sitcoms. There are obvious parallels to the Office found in this show, even sharing some writers/producers. The biggest difference is that Superstore just isn't consistently funny. It's obvious that Amy and Jonah are similar to Pam and Jim; both are lovable characters, but Amy is a in a relationship while Jonah has feelings for her. Dina is Dwight, the strong willed co worker that is just a bid different that other people. Whilst the comparisons are obvious, I actually like all three of these characters. Being similar to a show like The Office is okay if the characters are charming and the jokes are funny. This leads to Glenn, the worst part of this show. Glenn is not funny, he's Michael Scott if Michael Scott was not funny. It's not the actor's fault, I just don't think he's given any material to work with. He's the trope of the religious man that is just a bit too innocent for the world. I'm not saying that tropes are bad, they're bad when they're not funny. The issue of Glenn also leads into Superstore's biggest flaw, wasted potential. This is a sitcom in the style of The Office, Parks and Rec, Arrested Development and many others, set in a fictional Walmart. There is so much to work with, and instead they just regurgitated the Jim and Pam romance and focus on the relationships between the workers as opposed to the relationship with their coworkers along with their surroundings. These sorts of relationships work in shows like Parks and Rec because they're in an office, they only have each other to talk to. In a Superstore interactions with customers and the crap that retail workers go through should have been a central point to the show. In the end, I'll still watch it and hope it gets better. Superstore is not bad, it could just be so much better.
mathmaniac This is a funny series. If you like America Ferrera, as I do, you will really like the show. All the other characters are portrayed well by talented actors and the script is not up to 'The Office' standards but the humor can make you laugh out loud. What is very noticeable: the Latina (2!), the black man, the disabled man (combined into one character), the Filipino man, the gay man (combined into one character), the Christian guy, the Jewish guy, the teenager, the pregnant woman (combined into one character) - how friggin' politically correct can the showrunner get who came up with this? This is a very small group of co-workers in a big store. Everywhere you look: the shoppers are white people (sprinkled with one or two Asians and a few black people).I binge-watched the first season so maybe some of this will change in season 2. It does not matter much but it is SO noticeable how carefully this population has been constructed. One of my favorite shopping trips (weekly) is the stop at Walmart. It's a great store. It's a good business. I know that the prices are good not only because I can compare them and see that this is so, but at least half the shoppers are Hispanic from a neighboring town. Best advertisement ever for bargain shoppers! If I had to imagine the type of store used as a model for Cloud 9, I guess it could be Target. Livin' large!
august_films As someone who doesn't laugh out loud at television shows, I crack up whenever I watch this! I loved The Office when it was on and this has tons of similarities due to the producers. This show is bright, quirky, upbeat, and hilarious! The characters may be annoying sometimes but you love to hate them. The way they've constructed the blooming story between Jonah and Amy is unbelievably adorable.
