Synopsis

Kahina Zadi, 32, a French police officer travels to Kiruna in Sweden to investigate the bestial murder of a French citizen. Together with Anders, a Swedish prosecutor of Sami origin, she begins an investigation. Soon new killings start to happen and the first victim turns out to be the tip of a very dark iceberg. The victims seemingly have nothing in common more than that they are all being killed in a well-planned and vicious manner. In their hunt for the truth, both Kahina and Anders are forced to deal with their own past that they have repressed. A personal journey through a painful past becomes the key to succeed in preventing the violent killings that affects the small mining community of Kiruna.

Reviews

Raetsonwe Redundant and unnecessary.
Mandeep Tyson The acting in this movie is really good.
Mathilde the Guild Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
Kayden This is a dark and sometimes deeply uncomfortable drama
Bene Cumb This century has seen dozens of fine examples of Nordic Noir, particularly from Denmark and Sweden, but its wings have spread and presently many other countries are eager to shine or at least participate in the glory - like France here; on the other hand, for the sake of wider audiences and localities, the Nordics themselves need views and characters from aside.Midnattssol has giftedly combined the opportunities based on above, and the result is an intriguing narration with interesting references to the past, versatile twists, beautiful nature, and maintenance of tension and thrill to almost the very end. The leading performances are not the finest - plus pity that a wonderful actor, Peter Stormare, was cut out so early - but, on the other hand, it enhances realism and pays attention to team efforts rather than a single solo (although the French lady is very keen on pursuing this :)). And last but not least - magnificent landscape, with daily life and difficulties of small Sami people, with what most viewers are not aware of.Well, perhaps the wrongdoer was not too charismatic and the French connection remained somehow incomplete, but still, the series is worth watching - unless you are inured to fast action, lots of chases and betrayals. Life beyond the Polar circle has its own pace and angles...
naeringsliv I was totally hooked on this one. So exciting and so thrilling! I give Midnight Sun a 10 out of 10, straight. The setting is almost in my neighborhood. It is just across the border from where I am, so I am familiar both with the landscape and the people. The eeriness just grabs me totally. Because it is somewhat an eerie landscape with some eerie people and buildings. It is not like that on the Norwegian side, so I have felt the spookiness myself several times. So boosting the eeriness that already is there, that works totally for me. But, people from other countries and other regions will not see it the same as I do, I guess. It is not just another foreign place far away that you can't relate to emotionally. That is the advantage when a series or film is from nearby.I don't want to comment to much about the actual things that are happening in the series, because it can easily be a spoiler for some. But I will tell that I was totally blown away sometimes, when I realized that things was not as they appeared. I thought; how on earth did they come up with that? Genius! I think the acting was pretty good. Nordic people can be somewhat like the Swedish investigator, so I don't want to criticize his acting. And yes, the most important. The Sami indigenous people have a lot of secrets. They are known to be able to do stuff, and to find out stuff in other ways than traditionally. They do have shamans even today. So I don't see any unrealism in that either. But of course it is boosted a bit. But not overly over the top. But I guess it can appear unreal for a foreigner.Bottom line: I did so much enjoy this series that I was almost speechless at times. I highly recommend it! It is a breathtaking thriller with lots of exciting and strange elements. And it is totally exciting all the time. I saw it on Swedish television, so I had to wait for each episode to be launched. And I could hardly wait! A very different thriller than the usual American stuff, and that is a good thing. Thumbs up - big time!
greenwhich Of all the ways to die, I hadn't seen that before, instantly bringing out a laugh. Seriously just blow up the chopper.Right away that scene jumps to flesh, a girl swimming. Than on to some scrub in Paris, and back to Sweden and the investigation, back to Paris and the now emo scrub. Who hey isn't a scrub but just dresses like a detective.Wrong she dressed like a scrub, and the series cannot make up its mind on how to set a scene, let alone how its actor should act. So why the hell do I want to watch that for.Not a Swedish production, it figured, just cashing in on the success, not entirely a French production either and they haven't been very good at drama. Crime we can argue some of their better productions, but this is something else artsy liberal and just yawn. Who cares how that crime didn't happen, if it is pointless.
BlueBoris This is a series which requires concentration as there are several story lines intertwined. Going back in time to where the story started is the start of a fascinating journey to the present events and it is told in a thrilling way... As a huge fan of Scandi Noir such as The Bridge, Jordskott, Trapped,The Tunnel, we binge watched this show on SBS on Demand in Australia over three nights and couldn't get enough of it... Haunting music, magnificent scenery and a cast who were fantastic especially Leila Bekhti, Gustaf Hammerson, Richard Ulfsater and Iggy Malmborg. In addition to the fine acting add some scenes that really made us sit up and take notice - this is Scandi Noir on steroids... Loved it!
