There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,

Grace became less funny and more ordinary. Frankie became less funny and more grumpy. Sol was never funny and is socially challenged to some extent even though he is smart, but Sol's presence drags the comedy down to drama. Also, Sol slept with Frankie before he was getting married to Robert before asking Robert if he would be okay with it. Brianna is an unfunny sociopath that almost has no personality centered around charity or compassion. Mitch automatically gave me a bad vibe about him; he is a tool. Coyote has so many problems that I wonder if Frankie ever disciplined or cared about him at all. Mallory has shown no depth to me. The children in this show just seem like sprinkles on top of this show instead of being bones that keep it together. Nwabudike never seems like he is at peace. Now, Robert is the only character I liked most in this show. Robert seems more down to earth, thoughtful, and sane than the other people in this show. I just stopped liking this show during season 1 midway before season 1 ended. The cast may have talent, but I think this show could be so much more than what it is right now.

Characters who deal with interesting and complex issues and make human mistakes. How can I not have known about this show until season 4? It is a joy to watch set somewhere sunny and warm. I adore Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin and the guys are pretty good too. I love the kids and the way they all interact. I need to love the people to be able to watch a show. Well done great show with the right mix of comedy and misery and pathos.

....but I'm ready for Sol to grow a set. I love all of the characters, I love the story, and I love how much I laugh while watching it (alone!). But he is such a pushover when Robert bullies him, and I'm getting really tired of it. Sol has a lot to offer, and I'd like to see him stand up to Robert, and offer what it is that he brings to the show. Just sayin'.
