Synopsis

At first glance the Robertsons look like a typical Louisiana family who lives for duck hunting season. A closer look, however, reveals they live very well because of duck hunting season. The Robertsons own and operate Duck Commanders, which specializes in fabricating duck calls and decoys out of salvaged swamp wood. The company has grown from a mom-and-pop operation to a multimillionaire sporting empire, established in 1973 by family patriarch Phil (aka the Duck Commander) and now run by his business-savvy son, Willie. "Duck Dynasty" follows the Robertsons and their booming business, which also employs Willie's wife, Korie, his brother Jase and Uncle Si, a Vietnam vet and colorful character who keeps the guys in the workshop occupied with his many stories.

Reviews

Mjeteconer Just perfect...
BallWubba Wow! What a bizarre film! Unfortunately the few funny moments there were were quite overshadowed by it's completely weird and random vibe throughout.
KnotStronger This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
Sameer Callahan It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.
Mark Turner *This review is of the final season of the series just being released on disc* It's amazing how popular "reality" TV has become. Networks discovered after their initial successes that they could produce these show for far less than the scripted series they'd been creating for years. As each new show became a hit more and more appeared. The sad thing is that many became tedious to watch but held on trying to stay on the air. What's nice is when one decided the time is right to leave before they hit that point. DUCK DYNASTY is one of the few that has chosen to do so.The series was about the Robertson family, a group that was in the business of making duck calls and founded by patriarch Phil Robertson. Sons Willie, Jase and Jep all worked in the business with Willie taking it to a whole new level. Their first foray into TV was with a small program about hunting and fishing that included small moments with their family. From that rose what we now know as DUCK DYNASTY.Each week we got to see what went on behind the scenes of this Louisiana business. At least that was a part of each episode. The majority of each focused on the family lives of each of the brothers and their father. Everything from their children to their mother's cooking to building duck blinds became fodder for the show. The best part was that there was humor in every corner of the program, not so much forced as created by the predicaments that they were in. Was it scripted? I have little doubt that much of it was, but not all. As we got to know the family it was easy to believe much of this really happened. All of this began just five years ago. It's become so ingrained in today's pop culture world you would think it had been on the air longer than that. We've watched kids grow up and get married, enter dance competitions, have surgeries, and more. The family members became celebrities that attended social functions and their political beliefs became common knowledge. Their focus on faith, perhaps one of the biggest positive and popular items in the show, was criticized and attacked by the press. But they held true to their beliefs and their popularity remained. Each episode began with an issue and ended with the family gathered around to eat a meal and offer a prayer. In the politically correct times we live in this was cause for consternation with many critics of the show. Their voices didn't matter in the end and the faith on display here stayed with the show until the end. And that end is now.Just released is DUCK DYNASTY: LAST CALL, THE FINAL SEASON. The series lasted 11 seasons (keep in mind a season and a year are two different items) and its popularity was beginning to wane just a tad. At one time the most watched cable series the numbers had begun to drop. And after filling the market with everything from books to bobble heads, the family decided to call it quits.Fear not though, that last season was filled with the same fun filled moments that the previous ones had offered. Jase and Willie campaigned against one another to be president of their neighborhood home owners association only to discover the amount of work that went into it. The employees get overly excited about a 3D printer. Willie and Jep must handle a teenage girl's sleepover when their wives are away on a mission in Africa. ZZ Top appeared in the final episode, appropriate since their song "Sharp Dressed Man" opened the series when it began. And my favorite episode involved Korie challenging Willie to come up with an inexpensive romantic evening that resulted in a homemade drive-in.All of these episodes and more are available on this DVD collection. The entertainment value is high as well as family friendly, something rarely found in a world of trying to be the next cool kid on the block known as series television. This group is not the local yokels that many would like to consider them. They are not the backwoods hillbillies many suggest they were. They were shrewd businessmen who say an opportunity and took it. They took a simple idea, one based in hard work and faith, and created a juggernaut that found many watching, buying marketed items and picking up each season of the series. If you are one of those people then you'll want to make sure to add this one to your collection as well.
cwill-80102 Let's make something clear to all of the cry babies on here about this lifestyle. Whatever they kill, they eat. They are a loving family and care for one another. Yes, the show is slightly scripted, isn't every show? They cut up and have fun, doesn't everyone? In the South and North actually, hunting is a traditional trait to have. I've watched every episode too. Also, to the person who said whoever watches this is "sick", I suggest you expand your simple mind. Unless you study the hunting methods and actual purpose for destroying a beaver dam, then don't speak on it. Tired of seeing critics on here who cry about a lifestyle that has been around for years on end. The perk of this family: they support their community, veterans and so forth. So, instead of crying about "killing an animal for fun" (which they don't do it for "fun") maybe look at what they actually do. Great morals, funny moments and a strong family value. Also, I support Phil, you have your opinions and I have mine. Deal with it and suck it up buttercup.
realityobserver I guess there are two sides to every situation, on one side you have the folks that see this as an adorable program showing Christian hillbillies having fun and being, well, hillbillies. On the other side you have the folks that see this as a fake, set-up, poorly written, sophomoric tale of a family that will do and say anything to keep their show on TV so people will buy their shirts, sunglasses, beach towels, cups etc etc. I first watched the show to see how they made duck calls and worked hard to make it to the top of the pack in the duck call industry (I am not kidding), well I sure was taken for a ride on that assumption. I don't think they ever actually work on the show at all, I cannot see any of these brothers, uncle, co-workers doing anything but doing and saying what the writers and producers have paid them for. That, in my opinion, is just boring, you can see right off the bat that no one in their right mind would do the stuff that is portrayed on this show unless there was cash involved .... Reality TV ? No, just bad TV...The head honcho Phil is a rich dad who has no use for yuppies or cell phones, dresses everyday in camos and needs a shave and haircut, but he seems to have a little bit of restraint as far as the antics go. He seems like the old coot that lives down at the end of the road that no one can figure out so the people at the other end of the road just forget about him... His wife is just a daisy chain of nonsense seemingly hired by the writers as the comic relief... Uncle Si appeals to all the big mouthed know-it-alls in every bar in this country as their hero...Willie is always getting roped in some harebrained scheme with his brothers/wife/mom to prove a point, and takes it in stride with a side of eyeball rolling... The long haired and bearded brothers do what ever is written for that week, and act silly and spout nonsense that passes as Southern hillbilly scripture. At the end of each show they manage to show that this weeks program was actually a lesson to be learned, as they all sit for a family dinner and say their prayers to the producers and writers and production crews and loyal fans and consumers that manage to keep them living in hillbilly heaven...The really sad part is going to Wal Mart and seeing these huppies ( that's hillbilly yuppies ) plastered all over the store begging you to purchase their likeness on throwaway junk...But my wife likes the show...
PartialMovieViewer This is one of those scandalously fun romps, where one can witness emotions getting trampled into the mud and broken hearts being kicked around like a ball at soccer practice. This is my kind of show. Some of the targeted cruelty displayed on this program goes way beyond heinous, resembling closer to downright scurrilous activity. How much fun is that? Oh the pain and sorrow…the lies…the deceit…the vengeance. Let's not forget those shameful nocturnal interludes. Yikes, even my sunburn wants to blush - sheesh. If that is not enough…how can leave out the fights? Weekly smack-down – now that is what I am talking about. These are no mere squabbles or harmless spats…no way. The hissing is very un-catlike, more of a serpentine quality – claws are more demonic – and those jaws are full of venomous fangs. Talk about fireworks…let the games begin.
