Reviews

InformationRap This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
FirstWitch A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
Kaelan Mccaffrey Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
Justina The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Desertman84 Combattler V is the first part of the Robot Romance Trilogy of Super Robot series created by Saburo Yatsude,a pseudonym which refers to the collective staff at Toei. The series was animated by Sunrise on Toei's behalf. The robot's name,Combattler,is a portmanteau of Combine, Combat and Battle. The V is intended both as an abbreviation for "victory" and in reference to the five component machines that form the robot, as well as its five pilots. The V is pronounced as the letter V, whereas in the next series of the Robot Romance Trilogy of Super Robot series entitled Voltes V,has the "V" it is pronounced "5".The story of the series with the attack of the Campbellians or "Kyanbels" against the people of Earth. For more than a thousand years, these malevolent invaders had lived beneath the Earth, eager to one day resurface and conquer the human race. The Kyanbels were ruled by a domineering alien queen named Oreanna, her second in command, and the main commander of the Kyanbel Invassion Force is her son, the temperamental Prince Garruda. Aiding her abominable scheme is the high Kyanbel priestess Gen. Janealor. Using the gigantic beast machines under the command of field general Warchimedes and Dungele, they were aided by fearsome combat advisers namely Mica, Garua and Narva. The Kyanbel forces spell certain doom for the people of Planet Earth. But their evil plans were discovered by Professor Nanbarra, who is a notable Earth defense Scientist that looses no time in creating humanity's only hope for survival: the Super-Electro magnetic robot called Combattler V.No question about it that the Combattler V is the raw version of Voltes V,the highly popular series of the Super Robot series back in the 1970's.It is first of all generic and far from being remembered by the adults today when they reminisce their favorite robots during their childhood days unlike the much improved Voltes V.It is forgettable characters as they are immature and irresponsible regardless whether they are the heroes or villains. What is weird about it is that the pilots' leader, the Professor coordinator is a drunkard for he would always be found with a bottle of alcohol in his hand. Also, the story was generic and the monsters that they fought were simply bland and not-so- interesting. It was no wonder that Saburo Yate created the much improved and classic Voltes V after this disastrous robot series.
