juinrenee Laugh out loud funny. I love the adult humor. Absolutely smart. You won't be disappointed in this show. I love the interaction between the two main characters and I wondered if they were married in real life. Speaks to reality in a funny way. Take time to watch this show. These are people who are like my friends but better and honest.
Interleukin-6 The best thing about catastrophe is its realism. Yet at best, its realistic because its mundane. But that's life, right? But mundane isn't necessarily bad - curb your enthusiasm demonstrates this well, showing how sometimes, the funniest humor can be found in the simplest of situations. But this is just mundane. Its dull. No wit, no originality and despite its realism, somehow the characters still seem so unlikable. I get that Sharon isn't meant to be portrayed as perfect. I get that we are meant to see her flaws, as a real human being. But she's just not a very interesting human. The same goes for Rob (the other main character) - he's just a bit of a boring man. No quirks, a glimmer of a personality. His character almost develops a bit at one point, but then nope. Nothing. The jokes are sometimes worth a little chuckle, but only an inside voice chuckle. Not memorable, not witty...Its one redeeming feature is that it has a very funny Scottish guy in it. Apart from that, meh.
standardpropagation I'll start of by saying "dumpster fire". Classic. If you ever saw a dumpster fire (which I have) then you are fully aware of the magnitude of such an analogy. The synergy between Sharon Horgan (The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret) and Rob Delaney is spectacular and hard to look away from. The utter sarcasm makes this one of the best shows available to watch. This show has a gravity to it, when it comes to relationships, there is a draw because most of us have gone through what these characters have gone through. Also, I love London as a setting. The U.K as a whole gives this show a great feel of "NYC Anywhere". So, if your into romantic comedies and you and your partner fight like normal humans then this show is for you! Enjoy
carriembyrne I want to like Sharon Horgan after her funny turn in Pulling ten years ago - but her portrayal of an entitled, mean spirited teacher with zero redeeming features isn't funny enough for me to find her character enjoyable. Does she hate women? Why does she write such a mean spirited role for herself? Rob fares better, he relies heavily on sex jokes, but comes across as a nice guy - it's not clear why he wants to be with her. She treats him dreadfully. They're propped up by some interesting friends - the very fine Ashley Jenson who has the best comic timing and her strange Scots husband- wish we could see more of them and less of Sharon and Rob! Can't fathom why this became such a hit, - a formulaic sitcom with unlikeable characters.
