Moustroll Good movie but grossly overrated
MamaGravity good back-story, and good acting
ChicRawIdol A brilliant film that helped define a genre
Lidia Draper Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
amsinawze I googled for 'TV shows that have been canceled' and out pops Beowulf. The main character on the poster looked a bit like Faramir, and after reading some positive comments on various sites, I was convinced to give it a try. Told myself to keep an open mind; and given that it's only 12 episodes, it shouldn't take very long to finish it right? Well, I was pleasantly surprised. Nevermind that it is nothing like the original material, the premise was enough for me to go on to the next episode, and then on. I found it entertaining. You just have to look beyond the CGI (but it isn't really that bad, I have seen worse- 1st episode of Grimm comes to mind ) and the source material. In regards to the latter, just consider it Beowulf re- imagined and you'll be fine. It deserved better and in my opinion is way better than Merlin, which could never get pass an episode.
MajBlade2 How did they get William Hurt to show up for this? Must have wanted to take a vacation in England and figured get a paycheck for it and never be seen after the first episode. Wanted to like it, came across it after season had ended. Thought, " OK a sword and sorcery show I can binge watch" I eeked through the first episode, played a lot of world of warcraft while second episode was playing and by third I had turned to the world news since I was depressed by then.So many plot holes Hillary could hide a whole server in them. And the dialogue was as bad as a Trump speech.CGI was hit or miss. By that some low rent IT guy was hitting and missing wtih his codingAs soon as the intro played I thought I somehow had switched HBO on. The introduction was basically a cheaper carbon copy of GOT THATS why so many reviewers bring it upNo blood and guts, no Boobies or Wangs, I would have expected this series on American SYFY channel 10 years ago (they do much better now)Then I saw it was made in England. I thought they meant New Zealand and had just used the cast of Hercules (20 years older)Then saw same channel as that god awful Atlantis and understoodIt was never meant to be GOT and boy did they go out of their way to make sure no one would ever think it was
Paul Evans I have tried and tried to watch and get into Beowulf, I stuck with Jekyll and Hyde and got into it, Beowulf is just missing that special something. I can't identify which particular age group they are aiming the series at. It has a wealth of acting talent, it boasts some pretty nifty special effects and some lovely film work, great monsters and wonderful set designs. The trouble is, it's becoming the same thing every week, it's lacking in imagination, there is hardly no character development to speak of, it's just lacking in any depth, I've watched each episode and not warmed to any of the characters. Surely no second series? It seems like it's wanting to fill the gap left by Atlantis, Doctor Who, maybe even Jekyll and Hyde. It's not for me. Maybe it will appeal to the 13-16 year old age bracket.4/10
bunja-77202 I gave it about twenty minutes before I turned off, no connections were being made with any of the characters for me and I couldn't get a clear idea of what was going on with the storyline, I would compare this with stuff made on kick-starter like mythica, people on here say don't make comparisons with game of thrones, but when you think the acting on game of thrones is so good and mostly all of the actors are English Irish Scottish etc so its not like the British isles doesn't have a big talent pool to choose from. so I cant understand why we cant make a really good TV show to rival these American shows, the characters have to be likable and build a story , with Beowulf I cant keep concentrated I just found it annoying and turned off
