Synopsis

A fantasy drama set in a world of legendary heroes and mythical creatures. Far from home and desperate for answers, Jason washes up on the shores of an ancient land. A mysterious place; a world of bull leaping, of snake haired goddesses and of palaces so vast it was said they were built by giants - this is the city of Atlantis. Aided by his two new friends, Pythagoras and Hercules, Jason embarks on a voyage of discovery, and salvation, which sees him brush shoulders with Medusa, come face to face with the Minotaur and even do battle with the dead.

Sexyloutak Absolutely the worst movie.
CrawlerChunky In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
leilamgd-73030 I've only recently found this series, so I have watched all episodes and I have mixed feelings about it. Overall I was a bit disapointed that they rushed some of the episodes. They put a lot of events in each episode, don't explore some characters and plotlines, and sometimes, in between episodes, I got the idea that they've skipped time and events. Everything happened too fast... The fact that they've twisted a bit the mithology doesn't bother me at all (except for the fact that Jason SHOULDN'T have stayed with Ariadne!). It's just mithology, and if other reviewers are so bothered about it, they should just tune in to a documentaries channel! Overall I think that it had potential, but the final episodes were very disappointing.
bbshockwave As Galvatron put it so well in the 1986 Transformers movie - this show is bad comedy. I check out every fantasy show as a matter of principle, given how this genre is kind of dying out. Unfortunately, Atlantis choose to emulate one of the worst types of fantasy shows - namely, Xena and Hercules: The Legendary Journey. Even worse, those shows had the excuse for their laughable CGI, bad set designs and costumes and mediocre acting talent because they were low budget shows in 2000 or so - this show is from 2015 and has a bigger budget. But seeing Jason try to "act" will make you wish to see Kevin Sorbo again. The show also butchers mythological accuracy, though this is expected in these types of series. Worse offender is the story, that just goes nowhere. Jason comes from present day to "Atlantis" (Crete, really - with king Minos and Minotaur and bull-jumping) - but does this ever play any part in the plot? Nope, after the first episode he fits in perfectly fine with the ancient Greeks. He also never remarks about mythical names and locations that any kid today would know about - if you went back in time and met someone named Medusa, would you NOT warn them about certain curses? Adding to Jason's ridiculous macho superhero skills and zero acting talent are his "comedic" sidekicks, nerdy whiner Pythagoras and bald, complaining fat ex-wrestler Hercules, none of whom act anything like you would expect from the names. The only good actor in the lot is poor Alexander Siddig of DS9, Primeval and Game of Thrones fame, playing King Minos, but even he does not put much effort into his acting. The main villain, Queen Pasiphe, as well as the ever-cryptic Oracle, are such bad actresses that you will cringe whenever they are on screen. The effects are horribly green-screened and any mythical creatures like a harpy, Campe or the Minotaur always shown in darkness and with severe motion blur, so that you won't notice how they are not really there at all. I gave up on this at the end of Season 1 for two simple reasons - when Jason refuses to kill the evil queen who has been consistently evil and wanted to kill him for the whole series, and instead turns on and kills Circe, her sister, who tasked Jason with killing the Queen (our hero, everyone!), she summons some skeletons (via dragon tooth as per the myth) before dying. I am not kidding, the Harryhousen skeleton fight from Jason and the Argonauts, that is close to 60 years old, looked more real and better choreographed than this bad CGI fest. No shows has a budget excuse to make things look this terrible, not just compared to the amazing skeleton fights in Game of Thrones, but to an 1963 movie. I am glad this got cancelled - Hercules the Legendary Journey is something that does not need to have a worse successor at this day and age.
jan-maska I do not really care for details, neither I'm going to base my opinion on factual and historical mistakes or logical fallacies. Truth is, this show makes complete mess of its topic. Die-hard fans are going to argue that it's "just a show", but at the same time they'll meticulously replicate costumes from this show in a cosplay, and rain fire and sulfur on anyone who doesn't get ALL the details perfectly right. It's ridiculous and pointless, much like the lineup of the show. Modern TV and film have already made a huge mess of various adaptations. Greek mythology is beautiful the way it is. Trying to reinvent it destroys not only the beauty but morality of the stories as well. This lightweight TV show manages to go even one step beyond ridiculous mess: it mixes mythological characters with historic ones, places them into a completely wrong timeline at completely wrong locations.. I could go on and on. But yes, it is "just a show". It's here, and will be gone and forgotten soon. Greek mythology will survive even this attempt at reimaging it, and will remain, like it has for several thousand years.
marcogg I was gutted by knowing that this amazing show was canceled. I know too well that season one might seem a bit slow and not very interesting, but season two is beyond stunning! The show becomes darker and develops more mature themes. The characters get their development and the season two finale is utterly flawless. So much happened and there was a lot of potential material for the next season. Therefore it ended on a cliffhanger. This is such a shame. Pythagoras gets a love interest at last and they are so cute. They will never get a chance for exploring their relationship deeper. The story deserves to go on. This show must go on! I hope it gets re-commissioned.
