Marketic It's no definitive masterpiece but it's damn close.
Reptileenbu Did you people see the same film I saw?
Zandra The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
mothercanucker Not typically the type of show that we watch but I've been sucked in by Alice I Think. It's witty, simple and not over-the-top. Oddly enough, while based on books aimed at teens, the humour definitely has an adult theme at points (like The Simpsons). The collection of actors is very captivating. From the Gemini-nominated Rebecca Northan (read a nice Q&A article with Rebecca in U magazine published by her alma mater U. of Calgary - search for it on their site) to the relative newcomer with the large resume Connor Price (see him with Russell Crowe in Cinderella Man) to the hard-working and multi-talented Dan Payne (Stargate, multiple Muppets projects, multiple other movies), Carly McKillip has a great 'supporting' cast (she's no slouch either). Of course, Carly is the title character but her family takes on an equally important role in portraying this quirky BC family.I think this show will need about another 5-6 episodes under its belt before we fully understand each character a bit better. We've seen glimpses of John's persona when he dreamt of a Tetris-filled life and saw his 'paranoia' with fame after his rookie photo shoot. I still think that Diane and Mac need some more time until we see who they really are. The other true supporting cast member (Marcus, Finn,...) are slowly rounding out as well.Overall, very enjoyable. Hopefully will be around for a while.
benweinberger I've only been able to catch one episode so far - I don't know why it's not playing on a US cable network - it's pretty funny. This show should be picked-up by one of the networks on DirecTv here; I guess it's just a matter of time.I never read the books or anything, but the story line of the episode I saw was pretty funny - the kid who played Alice's boyfriend was an absolute freak.I like the kid (Connot something or other) who plays her brother, and the dad (Dan Payne). Dan's a bit of a freak - he should be doing Saturday Night Live or something - I think his inner funny is trying to get out - though he looks a bit more leading-man type.
david_collette I recently tuned in to Alice last Friday night and I was laughing from beginning to end. It was great to see a comedy based in Canada and starring a Canadian cast. It pleases me to see a venue to showcase many of Vancouvers wonderful actors that have so much to offer on ever level. I thought the writing was amazing and the acting was totally enjoyable. Dan Payne stuck out to me as a comic savant. His subtle humor and lovable performance will shoot him straight to the height of which ever show he will grace next. There is something for all ages in Alice I think, from the pains of growing up as a disjointed teen, to the difficulties of parenting. I strongly recommend you tuning in.
senora_bonita This show is like a live action 'Family Guy'! The Dad character is hilarious! I hope there are more and I hope the US gets it so all my friends can understand what I keep telling them about the show! The best part is there is something for everyone. I thought it might be for teens more but the Dad guy and his friends are great for adults! Finally a quality Canadian program! I hope there is more to come! It started on the comedy network channel but now it is also on CTV Which I didn't know until my friend pointed it out! Check it out Sundays CTV @7pm Canada brings the comedy! The story lines are based on books by Susna Juby whose writings are internationally renowned. It is really cool to see characters come to life from books. I only read the books because my daughter read them and I heard her giggling and thought I better screen her literary choices. Glad I did! I am not sure where the show is going to go from here but I hope it keeps going. It, like Corner Gas, is helping strengthen the Canadian world of TV respect. If anyone knows more about Dan Payne (the Dad) and Connor Price (the son) please let me know? Just wondering if I have seen them before!
