Synopsis

After Lately is an American television comedy. The series depicts, in mockumentary style, the behind the scenes goings-on at the office of the late-night talk show Chelsea Lately. The cast is made up of the actual writers and performers of Chelsea Lately, who play themselves as they suffer the indignities and relish the perks of show business, bicker and argue over trivial and petty matters, compete for show air time and personal approval from Chelsea, and produce a nightly late-night cable comedy show. Celebrity guest stars regularly appear, playing parody versions of themselves, interacting with Chelsea and the cast. The series began airing on E! on March 6, 2011.

Reviews

Teringer An Exercise In Nonsense
Tayloriona Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
Erica Derrick By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
Guillelmina The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
hunting_wabbits I'm also a big fan of Chelsea Handler. I wasn't expecting more Chelsea Lately, but I was expecting something funny. It's really not. There are 8 or more writers plus Chelsea & Chuy writing for Chelsea Lately to write a 2 minute monologue and create (not write jokes, just create) topics for discussion to last for 15 minutes. These people aren't that funny. Their attempts at humor are benign. Racial hyperbole abounds. As Chelsea said in one of the promo's for the show '...it's about people who really have no business being on TV.' Sadly, I agree Chelsea. I've looked forward to this show for months and now I'd almost rather watch the news. Chelsea Handler needs to stick to making fun of celebrities and keep the cameras away from her comedian wannabe's except for the occasional round table appearance. I think many fans were expecting to see more of Chelsea Handler, but she's rarely on camera in After Lately. A big thumbs down from a big fan.
Chaz Waza I gotta say, I love this show. It was a little slow coming out of the gate, but I have been watching every one and I think it's awesome. I'm a Chelsea Handler fan, but I don't like watch Chelsea Lately every day... but I love that this kind of show exists at E! And I've never seen a show that blurs the lines of reality quite this way, which is interesting -- not everyone is a great actor, but the fact that they are real people playing themselves is fun enough to make up for it. It's not for everyone, but it makes me laugh... and it reminds me of Larry Sanders Show, just meaner and more real. I have fun watching these people because they sound like real people, like ridiculous conversations I have with my friends, and it feels natural, like people talking, like in The Office. I guess if you don't like these people, or if you just want more Chelsea Lately, this show won't be your cup of tea... but it works for me and I've been telling my friends about it. I hope it keeps going, it's way better than the other crap E! runs. I only watch E! for The Soup and Chelsea Lately... and now After Lately. Keep up the good work.
captainflores I am a huge fan of Chelsea Handler and her show "Chelsea Lately". Her sarcastic sense of humor always has me bursting with laughter. Her new show "After Lately" has even more sarcasm and shines more on her employee's. The show may seem like a huge "The Office" rip-off but it's not trying for that awkwardness comedy. Their blunt with their jokes and they're pretty funny. The show has no plot and that, for an odd reason, turns people away. This show is a breath of fresh air from all the Kardashian shows popping up one after the other. I am a fan of the Kardasians but their shows get really annoying airing one after the other. That and Sex and the City which should have never been put on the network. Comedy is comedy and if you like to laugh watch it. For a bunch of unexperienced actors, besides Sarah Colonna, they're pretty believable with their sarcastic attitude. I like the show and hope it receives the better reviews it deserves.
sluna35 OK, first of all, I am a fan of Chelsea Handler and her show Chelsea Lately. I think that overall her comedy is good. However, her spin-off 'After Lately' is disappointing to say the least. Let's be honest, it is pretty obvious this show only came about because of her fame; there is no original plot for the show and no real reason for it's existence. The moment I saw the commercials for it I knew I was bound to find the show incredibly stupid. It's full of physical buffoonery, abuse of staff and nasty remarks, the only difference is that they're not funny. It's OK when you see it on the show 'Chelsea Lately', but on this show it just fails and looks fake. In addition, the acting is horrible. You can tell that the cast is forcing their acting, they giggle when they deliver the lines and it's just simply amateur work. I realize they are not professional actors, nor does the show promote them as actors, but there should be a minimum level of quality of acting for a show on E! that isn't really a reality, and the quality of work is dismal. I heard this show is supposed to be inspired or related to the popular show 'The Office', but After Lately fails at delivering witty comedy and simply gives you a sense of overall stupidity.I am really torn to give this show such a bad review because I am a fan of Chelsea Handler, but, for her own sake, it should be canceled.
