FuzzyTagz If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
Doomtomylo a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.
Allison Davies The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Jacob Shelow In White Men Can't Jump, Billy Hoyle uses other players' expectations of what a typical street-ball basketball player looks like to his advantage to hustle them. He is a white guy who dresses "like a chump" so that other players doubt that he can play. The first guy that Billy hustles is Sidney, who is one of the best players in the area. These guys join forces as two of the best hustlers to go around and play against whoever is willing and good enough to bet money on a game. The movie very effectively captures the attitudes and atmosphere surrounding this form of basketball, while also incorporating bits of comedy that make the movie more entertaining. As someone who enjoys the game of basketball, this movie was very intriguing to me as it successfully introduced a brand of basketball that I am unfamiliar with. This movie focuses equally on the hustler lifestyle and the everyday troubles these basketball hustlers face as well as the sport of basketball. Sports certainly don't seem to be the only emphasis of this movie, which may steer some viewers away from this movie. If one is looking for a typical basketball movie, then this may not be the movie for you. Although, it still teaches sports fans, specifically basketball fans, about a sports culture that may seem foreign to the majority them, which may be captivating and make this movie worthwhile to others.
Harriet Deltubbo Recently I have been so trapped in another round of emotional lows that I can't turn to anybody for any comfort. I am always thinking that I lack talent and that the only way I can be qualified, not successful, in competitions with others is to work harder than them so that my diligence makes up for my weaknesses. I admire the talented so much. With this in mind, I rented WHITE MEN CAN'T JUMP and it made me feel like a new person. Wesley and Woody are great together. The screenplay is intelligent, focused and clever. This is a truly excellent movie, and it becomes poetic at times. Overall, I can give it no less than 7 out of 10.
FilmBuff1994 White Men Can't Jump is a good movie with a well written storyline and a great comedic cast. Its not an outstanding comedy, but it has plenty of funny scenes and there is good chemistry between Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes. The movie is almost two hours long which I think is certainly too long for a comedy like this, the plot definitely felt tiring after a while.Wesley Snipes was a really good comedic actor in this,I liked him even more than Harrelson, which says a lot because I'm a huge fan of Woody Harrelson,Snipes was really funny and confident and he definitely should have starred in more comedies.White Men Can't Jump is a good movie that I would recommend to anyone looking for a good comedy if they got some time to kill.A con artist who hustles basketball games joins forces with a talented player to double their chances.Best Performance: Wesley Snipes
Corky1984 White Men Can't Jump could have been very good, but it was instead only very average. The story centres on a highly talented white basketball player (Woody Harrelson) who hustles a cocksure black guy (Wesley Snipes) on his own court. The two then team up and hustle the local courts, raking in some big dollars. There is plenty of wisecracking, but the "your mama" jokes wear a bit thin. One of the film's biggest irritations is Harrelson's on-screen girlfriend: she moans endlessly in a very, very nauseating high-pitched whine, at one point bitching that Harrelson has brought her a glass of water when she complains of thirst. She is truly one of THE most annoying female characters ever to appear in cinema and ruins the film beyond redemption. There is a side-plot in which Harrelson has to clear some debts to two gangsters, but they are "off-the-shelf" lifeless caricatures. The film concludes with Harrelson having lost his girl (a blessing, to be honest) and asking Snipes for a job. Not quite the action-packed conclusion you might have expected. A shame, because Harrelson and Snipes have both appeared in some excellent films. White Men Can't Jump wasn't one of them...
