Lovesusti The Worst Film Ever
Nonureva Really Surprised!
FeistyUpper If you don't like this, we can't be friends.
Robert Joyner The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
jasonaaldridge This is one of the funniest movie of all time. I must have seen it 100 times as I know most of the lines. Even after seeing it many times you still find something funny to you missed.
caddainmoe "Airplane!" is a timeless comedy film by Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker. It's absurd, hilarious, and remains just as funny with every watch. The movie shows the story of Ted Striker, a former war pilot, and his mission to win back the love of Elaine, a flight attendant. While on the flight, disaster strikes and the pilots on the flight become extremely ill and it's up to Ted to overcome his fear of flying and save the day.The plot is just one part of the movie, though. The rest of the hour and twenty eight minute film is filled to the brim with various forms of humor. Personally, "Airplane!" stands out to me as one of the silliest and most enjoyable comedy movies I've ever watched. While the humor might not be to everyone's taste, those who can appreciate it will be heavily rewarded with many laughs. The dialogue and visual jokes fly by one after another, keeping up this fast paced comedy the whole time. Whether it's slapstick, witty one- liners, puns, unexpected twists, or anything else, it's hard to find too many jokes in this movie that fall short of greatness. The movie is essentially a spoof of the 1957 film "Zero Hour!". While this is true, "Airplane!" provides to be more than just a spoof of one movie. It has various parodies, references, and recurring jokes that give it a unique charm.Overall, "Airplane!" is a goofy, reliable, and proves itself to be one of the funniest movies of its type. No other movie I've seen quite compares to the humor and mood that this film presents. "The Naked Gun" comes close, but it just doesn't quite reach the same level of rewatchability that this movie achieves. This is a memorable, extremely quotable, and near-perfectly executed spoof movie that I would recommend everyone watch at least once in their lifetime.
gab-14712 Airplane! is an early example of a spoof movie, and is one of the better spoof movies out there. Maybe it's the garbage that has been released the past decade, but spoof movies are my least favorite genre. The concept of making fun of other movies is a genius idea, but the execution have been ranging anywhere from downright mediocre to absolutely horrendous. Fortunately, Airplane! is the right example how to make a spoof movie. There is no over-reliance on poop or fart jokes and although the movie is nearly forty years old, the humor ages like a nice bottle of fine wine. Plus it helps the movie sports a wonderful cast. One that began a career of comedy for many of the talented actors and actresses.Although the plot can be tricky to describe because it pulls from many films, I will do my best to tell you about the basic story. Ted Striker (Robert Hays) is an ex-Navy pilot who is afraid of boarding a plane because of the war. He faces his fear and boards a plane to find his former flame, Elaine (Julie Hagerty). You know things are wrong when he is the only sane person on that airplane! This movie came out at the right time. The 1970's were ripe with disaster movies, and as we headed into the new decade, the public became worn out by these type of films. That is why the time was ripe for these films to be made fun of. Casual moviegoers might be able to pick out films like Airport and Jaws as some of the films that the movie had fun with. However, the one movie that really influenced this movie was 1957's Zero Hour! I might add that this would be a good trivia question! There is no denying that the script written by Jim Abraham, David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker is juvenile and silly, but I just could not resist laughing at some of the happenstances that occurred in the film. There were zany, memorable quotes such as that "Don't call me Shirley" quote. There were simple gags like the fin of the plane zipping through the clouds while the Jaws theme music is playing in the background. My favorite scene is when this lady is freaking out, a line of people line up to slap her silly by various means. That took me some time to stop laughing.Another thing that elevated this spoof movie is its cast. The majority of the cast was filled with veteran actors, many whom had no experience with comedy. In addition to Robert Hays and Julie Hagerty, we had Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves, Robert Stack, and the great Leslie Nielsen. Nielsen was mostly a dramatic actor prior to this movie, but Airplane! opened up a new side of himself and a new career path.Despite being overly silly at times, I rather enjoyed Airplane! It might be one of the best spoof films ever made. Not all the jokes worked, but those that did are instant classics. David and Jerry Zucker are genius comedic forces, and it is great they created this movie as a blueprint for future spoof films. It's sad that many of them will not reach the somewhat elevated heights of this film."Surely you can't be serious." "I am serious, and don't call me Shirley." "You've ever been in a cockpit before?" "No sir, I've never been up in a plane before." "You have ever seen a grown man naked." MyGrade: B
Maz-hell Let's begin with me saying something about me: I am in my late 20's and English is not my mother tongue, although I can defend myself in English with no problem. Why is this important? Well, I was learning to count when this movie was having acne. Even then I could get a good account for the jokes. The job in this movie is astounding for its time. Even the effects are good for its time. The script was simple but effective. The music was fitting most of the time (except the disco part) and the actors were having the time of their life: They gave everything they had for a laugh and they got it.Some of the verbal jokes (I can remember the one with Reagan and the married girl one) are totally outdated nowadays, but it holds as a whole. Some of the jokes are such a classic (Stop calling me Shirley, the sweaty arrival, the taking of pictures, the 'This was a bad week to stop X', the calming lady) that they could not be ever forgotten. Even the disco section was funny, although i feel it overly long. It has something for everyone: dark jokes, physical comedy, white jokes, puns, effect comedy... The best part is simply that the movie does never take itself seriously, which actually makes it better to watch. One of the best, although a little out of date. Would watch again.
