Scanialara You won't be disappointed!
AnhartLinkin This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.
filippaberry84 I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
Kaelan Mccaffrey Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
Wizard-8 When I first heard about "Intern Academy" (a.k.a. "Whitecoats), I admit I was intrigued. The Canadian government finally funding a movie that has no pretentious and boring art, and instead is geared to a wide audience? Written and directed by funnyman Dave Thomas? I decided to check it out... though when I got the chance to see it for free, since I have been burned by too many bad Canadian films. After seeing it, I'm glad I didn't pay any money to see it.The problems with it are simple. First, there are the movie's production values. Now, I will admit that in recent years, the production values of Canadian films have improved greatly. But there is still a lot to be desired in a number of them, including those in this movie. While the movie doesn't look dirt cheap, it has the look of a television drama instead of a feature film. The second (and main) reason why the movie doesn't work is simple: IT ISN'T FUNNY. Dave Thomas used to be funny - what happened when he wrote and directed this movie? The theory I have come up with is the setting: A hospital is a place full of pain, suffering, and death. It's still possible to find humor in this setting, but it needs a steady and sure hand. Thomas doesn't seem to have the ability to find funny (black) comedy in this setting. When interns throw human organs at each other, or vomit on corpses, it isn't funny, it's just gross.P.S. - I would like to comment on the inept marketing campaign TVA Films put forth when they put this movie in Canadian theaters. Not only did they release it in about half the theaters an American release usually gets, but the promotion was lousy - I never saw a TV commercial for this movie, despite all the hours of TV I watch. And in the newspaper ads, they did not promote the name stars the movie had (Thomas, Dan Aykroyd, Matt Frewer, Saul Rubinek, and Dave Foley), instead promoting the no-name members of the cast! The problem with the Canadian film industry is not just that the government funds very few movies that might attract an audience, but when one does get made, the government does nothing to push distributors to properly market and release the movies.
k_x_u_e I picked up this movie solely because it was a comedy about doctors and the process interns go through.Honestly, I laughed a lot, but it's not brilliant comedy or anything. It's simple laughs that have a ring of truth. There are a lot of clichés in the movie that have been exaggerated. It's not brilliant, but there are some good laughs throughout the movie. There is a definite amount of predictability about the movie, but the situation, and the way it is portrayed somewhat makes up for that fact.I'm probably going to wind up buying this movie to bring to medical school with me. It'll be something to laugh at when I'm dying with exams. :) In summary: It's a decent movie. Nothing brilliant, but great for laughs, and it rings true for those who are interested in the medical field.
J Ragan I'm getting sick of hearing these spoiled American "manifest destiny" bunch of selfish, egotistical whiners cut down a Canadian masterpiece. If you don't like it, that's fine. Don't be a jerk and cut it down because you think 'Canada sucks' or something. Believe it or not, it's not all igloos and eskimos up here. Canadians are very similar to Americans, minus the ignorant supremacist attitude!! Canada is your arrogant country's biggest and best ally in the world so what is the point in trash-talking something that so closely reflects your own culture? This movie is good enough to run with the big dogs that come out of Hollywood. It's even better than a lot of the "comedic" garbage that you offer (read: The Master Of Disguise, Freddy Got Fingered, Not Another Teen Movie, etc). If someone would have told you that this film was made south of the Canadian border, the fact that you didn't like it wouldn't be all that important anymore, would it? Kinda stupid, don't you think? One last thing to ponder --> Canada's bigger and we're on top. If we were in prison, you would be our BITCH.
Melissa Sanderson It's good to see that great Canadian comedy movies can still be made! Dave Thomas of SCTV fame has written a great modern comedy here. If you like the T.V. show "Scrubs" (and most people do) then you will love "Intern Academy" too. This movie is kind of a cross between the Police Academy movies (in a good way), National Lampoon's movies and of course "Scrubs".Some of the scenes are more adult oriented but this movie will have you laughing and more than once. This is definitely the best Canadian comedy of the year. I have also seen "Ham and Cheese" (awful despite scenes with Dave Foley and Scott Thompson) and this movie is so much better."Intern Academy" also has a lot of recognizable Canadian actors and comedy performers who all turn in good performances.Buy this movie, see this movie, watch this movie!10/10
