UnowPriceless hyped garbage
Bumpy Chip It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
Guillelmina The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
TheLittleSongbird Will admit to feeling nervous about seeing 'Werewolves of the Third Reich'. The low rating and poor reviews were not promising, and too many of my recent low-budget viewings with both of those here have proven to be that bad and worse. The idea also seemed really ridiculous, even for one clearly not meant to be taken seriously and with the potential to be executed in an intelligence insulting way.My nervousness proved after watching 'Werewolves of the Third Reich' to be justified. 'Werewolves of the Third Reich' was yet another film to be that bad, as bad as the low rating and reviews suggested, and worse. It was not only ridiculous and terribly made but also intelligence insulting to a near-offensive degree, with a huge amount to criticise and nothing to recommend. Have nothing really to add, with it said already so well, other than my thoughts.Knowing where to begin with the criticisms is difficult. 'Werewolves of the Third Reich' looks cheap, with drab and rushed-looking photography, haphazard editing, risible visual effects that just look strange, inauthentic and shoestring budget-like costumes and far from atmospheric or spooky settings. The sound quality is intrusive and obvious and can remember little about the music other than how ill-fitting it was.Dialogue is cheesy as sin and delivered with accents that are both stereotypical and incomprehensible and words delivered in a way that will make native Germans and those studying German cringe and feel insulted. The story is uneventful in the first act and becomes increasingly silly and implausible, as well as tension-free and lacking in coherence. The action is clumsy and dull and the direction shows no engagement or experience with the material.Characters are irritating and little more than cartoonish caricatures. Don't let the titular creatures elevate things, they are barely in it and are poorly designed. The acting is all round awful, with lots of histrionics and bizarre miscasting (Hitler is one of the biggest dishonourable mentions).Overall, terrible. 1/10 Bethany Cox
Ten-Inch-Toni This. . . is. . . horrendous! It's obviously low budget. Very low. That in itself is certainly not a detractor. But Gawd Damn! When we "enter" Mengele's concentration camp their are exactly four young adults that are supposed to be the entire POW camp. Two men Two woman. Modern looking women with long stringy hair parted on the side. The "blond" had 5 inches of exposed dark roots. Apparently they couldn't even manage to dye her hair one way or the other. It's like they took what little they remember from high school history class and threw it in here and there and decided to mix in a bit of The Island of Dr. Moreau. This is not a compliment at all. I would recommend you save yourselves and choose something else; but you are gonna do what you're gonna do. 2 of 10 stars because I don't like to flunk people completely. Cellup Stamen Having failed in his attempts to create an army of 1 foot dolls (Revenge of Robert the Doll), Hitler turns to werewolves in an attempt to win the war. The evil and twisted Doctor Mengele is the man for the job. After unscrupulously obtaining a serum, the doctor's plan is to inject it into a human subject and create a Nazi werewolf.Mengele's wife is introduced as an evil bitch who is running a concentration camp. She likes one of the poor captive's tattoos so much that she cuts off his skin to turn it into a lamp! The rest of the captives are a strange looking bunch who look like they've just got up and are still wearing their pajamas. The highlight for me in this film is that we even get to see Hitler in this film. He's portrayed brilliantly right down to those nervous twitches and that stutter that's he so well known for. But, I get ahead of myself because before going any further, I must introduce the other theme running through the film. The two will superbly collide at the end. There are four American men, all nasty and all under military arrest for various misdemeanors. "Mad dog" Murphy is portrayed by Lee Bane who once again puts in a great performance. The men find themselves being transported in the back of a military vehicle when suddenly the road is blocked. It was an ambush by the Nazis and in the ensuing fight, the Nazis are killed as well as the senior officers driving the vehicle.Murphy and co are now free; outlaws with no place to go. They are seen walking off into the sunset. The movie cleverly plays Western style cowboy music when the four guys are together. It's a unique take on events to have cowboy music in a film based in Nazi Germany. So, back to Mengele and his nasty wife. A new element is introduced to the story. His wife, Ilsa, is seen having a secret rendezvous with a German officer that works at the base. Having seen the evil side, we now see the more caring and emotional side of Ilsa. Her relationship with the loony doctor is clearly at breaking point, and she wishes to run away with her officer friend. But things do not go well for them at this point. Mengele has somehow found out about his wife's affair and decides that the officer would be the perfect subject for his first attempt at creating a werewolf. The serum is injected and very soon he's changed. Finally, some much anticipated werewolf action. He's a frightening looking beast, cleverly made up so that you can see who it was originally, but also appearing convincingly as a werewolf.During the night, Ilsa, who knows what's become of her love, sneaks to the lab to see him. This is a really emotional scene. The hardnosed woman who had been introduced at the start was now vulnerable and hurt. I think one is supposed to feel sorry for her although to be honest, she'd lost the sympathy vote from me the moment she made the lamp out of a captive!Deciding that she wants to join him, Ilsa injects herself with the serum and soon turns as well. Now for the two parts of the story to brilliantly come together. Murphy and his men have stumbled across the camp and decide that they should storm it. Four men, you'd think, would have little chance of taking over an entire concentration camp. Luckily for them, despite being the base of Hitler's most important experiments, it's the most poorly defended camp in the World! There's one gormless looking guard on the door who is quickly dispatched of. Once inside, the place is empty but for Mengele, a senior officer and one other dude with a gun (and of course 2 werewolves). The guy with the gun is overpowered, and obviously the thing to do here is for one of the merry men to offer him out for a fist fight. Right in the middle of this important siege, he figured that this was a great idea! Anyway, once he's eventually killed, it's on to Mengele, but he eludes the gang's grasp. Now for the only bit of serious werewolf action in the whole film. German officers and doctors are no longer the biggest worry for Murphy and his gang. The werewolves attack! It's dramatic, but ends with the death of the creatures. Hitler would have to go back to the drawing board. What next for the dictator? Nazi gnomes or Nazi frogs? The possibilities are endless! The final scene brings the movie to a gripping conclusion. Mengele had escaped, and we see him 30 years later as a farmer in the middle of an Argentine forest. He might have thought he'd evaded capture but...wait....Murphy and his pals track him down. All four men have aged incredibly well. Despite being 30 years later, they literally haven't aged at all! After a brief conversation, Mengele's killed and justice has finally caught up with him. That's the end. Queue more cowboy music .
