BlazeLime Strong and Moving!
Beystiman It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.
AshUnow This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
Tymon Sutton The acting is good, and the firecracker script has some excellent ideas.
mmerryman ....Then be forewarned. Truth or Dare is NOT for the faint of heart!! That being said, it is an extraordinarily well-crafted, bloody juggernaut of a movie that makes its presence known almost immediately. But - and here's a lesson for filmmakers everywhere - it does not substitute blood & guts for an interesting, twisted and downright nasty (that's intended to be a compliment!) story. I have seen hundreds of horror films in my lifetime (possibly even a thousand), yet only a few of them have truly made my stomach churn. The first two that did just that were Peter Jackson's Dead Alive aka Brain Dead, and the second was Fede Alvarez's re-imagining of The Evil Dead. Number 3? Jessica Cameron's Truth or Dare. This is Ms. Cameron's debut film as a director, and she knocks it out of the park. She also does some excellent acting in the role of Jennifer Collins, one of the "Truth-or-Daredevils" from the reality TV show named - you guessed it - Truth or Dare. Joining her is the lovely and multi-talented Heather Dorff as Michelle Lucas, in yet another of her sublime performances. Devanny Pinn plays Courtney Austin, and delivers a command performance in her role. Brandon Van Vliet is terrific in the role of Tony Lockhart, as is Shelby Stehlin, who plays Ray Austin. And last - but CERTAINLY not least (by any stretch of the imagination) is the incredible Ryan Kiser as Derik B. Smith - Truth or Dare's #1 Fan!! (Eat your heart out, Annie Wilkes!!) So, for fans of nasty, bloody, gory - but smart & coherent - fun, check this one out.
iamsparticus18 Truth or Dare is not only original but very well may shock you. It resonates intelligence long after the final credits. It's written and directed with brilliant professionalism, not normally shown in a first time director. Yet, the veteran actress Jessica Cameron shows such perfection it's impossible to believe it's her first. The film, itself, dealing with a web based team of Daredevils, who eventually meet their stalking, and quite creepy number one fan. Played exquisitely by Ryan Kiser, who, obviously relished his role and at times, is reminiscent of A manic Tony Perkins Psycho character. As the story plays out to the groups hostage and demise, at the hands of the obsessed Derik, revelation after revelation is revealed about each member. Secrets hidden away from each of their best friends. Not only does Derik tear them down from the outside, but internally as well. His obsession and desire to be a member leads not only to his destroying the group he loved most, but spins him into a madness from which there is no escape. The individual performances are far superior to most indie offerings. The color palette is reminiscent of something by Dario Argento. Ms. Cameron's debut shows the the promise of the best new talent in horror, and not just as a woman talent. Dare I say the most important voice in Horror since Clive Barker. I believe I just did...Give it a watch, if you Dare!
uncleb101 This movie was great for introducing characters and plot. The characters get you involved throughout the whole movie and you can feel the pain they are in.Wondering what dare is going to happen and how it is going to be played. The scenes are intense and keep you on the edge of your seat. The villain will keep you wanting to know whether he will succeed or not...If you want a thriller that will keep you wondering what the truth will be, this movie is a must!!
Fred Thiel Full Review is at http://blogandguts.blogspot.com/2014/03/truth-or-dare-review.html ...This movie has won numerous awards at every indie horror film festival it's been shown in. It's somewhere in the high teens, or low 20s right now for awards. And there's a reason why. Within the first 10 minutes, this film establishes the core of the film, and then doesn't let up until the end. But while most horror films stick to the, "more gore less story" ideals, Cameron and Higgins crafted a story that makes you want to care for every character, and stay focused on the torture they're all receiving at the hands of Derik. A big plus! Also, the actors that were assembled for this film is amazeballs. Each person behind the character loves this film, and you can tell in their portrayal. But, Kiser stands out as the breakout star of the film, taking psychotic to another level, and I think he's going to do great in his new film House of Manson, as the titular Charles Manson. I also dug the fact that even though they're all very close friends, they all have their own dark secrets they've hidden deep within from even each other, and Derik chips away at their friendship, as well as their psyche with each truth answered. But, while I was watching Truth Or Dare, another movie came to mind that shared a similar premise, and that was Among Friends. While Truth Or Dare shares some similarities to Danielle Harris's directorial debut, Truth Or Dare refuses to let the audience turn away, and cranks the brutality to 11, through the use of some amazing practical effects, and great make-up by Carrie Mercado. And even though there's a lot of blood, gore, and violence in the film, you can tell Jessica wanted to tell a good story as well, and there's a lot of character development, and well crafted dialog throughout the film, including a few parts where I laughed out loud in the theater. Another great thing about the film's cast is each character is an extension of a core trait, but they are rounded, and fully believable (A thing we touch on in the previous interviews). But what makes the film so twisted, beyond the gore and violence, is what I'm not including in this review. You'll have to see it for yourself...But, at the end of the day, even though I liked it, would I recommend it to others? And that is a yes, and no. Yes, it is a very cool film, and has things that every horror fan would love, but no to anyone under 17. There's a lot of adult content that younger horror fans just wouldn't get, as this movie would/could get a hard R or NC-17 rating in the mainstream. But, that is also your call as a parent to decide what your children see, not mine.Truth Or Dare is a phenomenal directorial debut for Jessica Cameron, and I'm excited to see her future works as well, both in front of the camera, as well as behind. TOD is a violent, gory, monolith of an indie film, but it's also very smart, respecting the fans of the genre. And if you get a chance to see it on the big screen, I highly suggest it!
