Reno Rangan The idea for a film seems good, but it did not work out for this film. The screenplay lacks some good scenes. The suspense was weaker and so the action sequences. Though the film had good actors in the lead and visually looked fine, like the locations. Most of the story was set in a single location, except the opening sequence. Almost a minimal cast film. So it had all the qualities to succeed if the plot was developed smartly.The story of a CIA's field agent who has been assigned to one of their remote stations in England after he had failed to obey the order from his fellow senior officer. A code operator Katherine, whom he has to protect find himself in a tight position when their building was breached. Once again, his professional ethics are tested, but how he deals the situation is what covered in the remaining parts.Its most certain that John Cusack days are over in the entertainment industry, just like Nicolas Cage and John Travolta. But it's good to see them at least in small flicks like this. So I did not expect much from it, hence not got disappointed. But I thought it should have been better in a few areas, because I've seen lots of good B movies these days. One time watchable film, but looks like it is a simplified version of 'Wanted'.5/10

SnoopyStyle Emerson Kent (John Cusack) and his superior Michael Grey (Liam Cunningham) are American secret agents sent to kill in New Jersey. Grey kills a young girl which leaves Kent struggling with the morality. Grey assigns him to a bland job to protect code operator Katherine (Malin Akerman) in a number station near Suffork, England. They are one of three two-men teams that maintain the station around the clock. One morning, they arrive and are attacked by mysterious gunmen. They get into the station to find the previous team had been forced to transmit instructions for 15 unauthorized missions and then killed. Kent calls for extraction but is told to kill Katherine to save the secrets.This has too many questionable events to be a realistic spy thriller. There are lots of gun fights and action scenes to try to keep the interest. It's a lot of fighting in an underground bunker. It doesn't succeed in creating thrills. The cat-and-mouse game is not that well thought out and not that compelling. It may be necessary to do some minor exposition on what the station does and where that phone connects. This movie has some good actors but it's too bare bones.

Mischief810 Finally, after a string of dreadful scripts, poor directing and outright silliness, Cusack gets a role he can sink his teeth into. His character, Emerson Kent, is a burned out black ops agent. The character is a dark, tortured soul and Cusack plays it magnificently. Malin Akerman also shines in her role as Katherine, an ebullient and somewhat naive cryptographer with issues of her own.The plot gets down to business very quickly and the pace of the film never really lets up. Kent lets you know right away that he's no nice guy, so it's accurate to say that there really aren't any good guys here. Kent only seems intent on doing the right thing despite his ruthless past.There are no car chases. There are a few well placed explosions. But enough gunfire and action to move this 90-minute flick forward at just the right pace. It is at times thrilling, at times poignant, and at times quite violent. What else could you ask for in an action thriller?

draciron For some reason the critics did not like this movie. Then again if your idea of an action movie is the Expendables this is probably not the movie for you. No leaping off a 20 story building and surviving because of a Ninja roll or bad guys falling like flies while the good guy fires infinite rounds doing unreal gymnastics. For me movies like the Expendables are a good light hearted comedy. The numbers station is a suspenseful action movie with real and believable characters and a very interesting plot. The movie starts slow and builds tension all the way through. The fear is tangible, the actions of the the people faced with the unthinkable very believable. I won't tell you anything about the plot, the movie will do that. I'll just highly recommend this movie.
