Platicsco Good story, Not enough for a whole film
Sameer Callahan It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.
Frances Chung Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
skybrick736 To start, yes, The Jacket shouldn't be really close to any consideration as a horror film but that is contrary to the internet movie database's classification. Receiving a horror label presents the opportunity for discussion since the film leaves a lasting impression on the viewers on so many levels. Without giving too much of anything away, the film can be summed up as dark, romantic thriller with a strong tale based on time-travel and redemption. Filmmaking was impeccably constructed, bestowing a cold and somber atmosphere with great casting calls consisting of Adrien Brody and Keira Knightley as the main leads. The Jacket is a tremendous psychological piece that won't scare or shock but is highly imaginative and emotional.
JÄnis Locis You kind of see what you are going to get while watching this movie, but the pace and vibe of this film makes you forget about that and that lets you really enjoy the moment and feel good. Not the deepest and most twisted plots of a movie of this sort, but it surely succeeds to deliver when it comes to making you curious. Sets a strangely good mood, maybe even if the subject is not as bright as it looks. Yes, it has some obvious plot holes, but like with most of the movies similar to this one, you simply have to believe everything that happens and go with the flow to enjoy it.The acting is top notch, Adrian Brody and Keira Knightley have outstanding performances here, really adding to the flow of this movie. It just feels right and you don't want to start questioning yourself and try to finds flaws. A nice mysterious and twisted movie, nothing too crazy, but still has awesome acting and a good feel to it, worth your while!
NateWatchesCoolMovies The Jacket is an extremely underrated thriller that went mostly overlooked, or was met with lukewarm reviews back in 2005. It's ripe for a revisit, and deserves many. It's moody, disconnected (in the best possible way), sketchy and cold, but at the same time injected with a vital emotional pulse, carried by the ensemble cast's wonderful work, as well as the poignant, exciting screenplay. Adrien Brody magnificently underplays that role of Jack Starks, a psychologically damaged gulf war vet thrown headlong into a web of confusion, violence and time travel following a mysterious incident he has no memory of. The spine chilling, scintillating story takes its time unfolding, with each new reality bending revelation more exciting than the last, and some truly memorable and unique touches that really make it a special film, Jennifer Jason Leigh is outstanding in a supporting role, as is a young Daniel Craig, before he got self conscious and started limiting himself in disappointing roles. The filmmakers give the proceedings a bleak yet hopeful, eerie and downbeat yet oddly exciting, quaint aura, and it's a film that sticks in your memory and your dreams. Highly recommended.
Chris L The Jacket is another very, very classic and conventional sci-fi based thriller who relies on the usual tricks of the genre: identity search, time travel, alteration of future events... nothing particularly original and that is what mainly serves this unremarkable movie badly. The elements on which relies the scenario have all been used over and over again — and often better — in other productions: for example, some developments are a bit far-fetched, like the not so credible love story. It's a shame because the direction is good, as the rhythm, the intriguing atmosphere is coherent with the genre, but it's Adrien Brody's excellent performance, by the way an incredibly underrated actor, who illuminates the movie, as opposed to his partner Keira Knightley, always very linear.
