Steineded How sad is this?
ShangLuda Admirable film.
Limerculer A waste of 90 minutes of my life
Borserie it is finally so absorbing because it plays like a lyrical road odyssey that’s also a detective story.
Nelson Strang Polanski is the master. Everything he crafts is golden. This is no exception. It feels so low key, yet it hooks you in and doesn't let go. All the performances are faultless and the tension and intrigue are unrelenting. Definitely recommended.
Nick Duguay This is the tenth time I've seen this film so what follows are just a few thoughts I had during this re-watch. The Ghost Writer is simple and minimalist, each line of dialogue is carefully measured and crafted; the whole thing is quite a slow burn but there are several blasts of realization coming in quick succession near the end that make it very worthwhile sitting through the full two hours. The Ghost Writer is not lavish in any aspect- a simple but beautiful set, calculated camera shots, a stark realism with just a hint of theatre. This is probably one of the best modern updates on the noir film. The whole thing has an atmosphere of the 60's noir film, or maybe it's just a bit closer to Polanski's own earlier remaking of the style, Chinatown. My favorite films are, without falter, surrealist, baroque, and flagrant; but for some reason The Ghost Writer stands alone in it's style as one of my all time favourites. Many people will compare it with Polanski's earlier films but to be honest I can't say that I like any other work of his more than this one (though some not quite less). Simple and slow, but there's a lot underneath to discover.
Kingslaay Suspenseful and intriguing is the best way to describe this film. What is interesting is it has no action scenes and you don't witness any murders but the intensity is still there. A simple position involving being the ghost writer for a controversial leader uncovers more mysteries than answers. Ewan McGregor's character finds more questions than answers. The film is non-stop in its pace as we get deeper. Not a bad film and definitely worth a watch.
PimpinAinttEasy Dear Roman Polanski, Ghost Writer is mostly a film of place for me. The locales and the visuals stood out for me more than anything else in this film. It superseded the film's politics and the wonderful actors. I cannot think of another film set on an island that has been shot so beautifully. Hitchcock's Birds comes to mind. But the rainy, sparsely populated places with beaches and beautiful pubs and houses in The Ghost Writer captured my imagination unlike any other film.Ewen Mcgregor must be one of the best actors of his generation - he is perfect as a man who serves the powers that be. Pierce Brosnan excels in a rare role of a square. Olivia Williams as Brosnan's vicious and controlling wife delivers a strong performance. Kim Cattrall as her sexual rival was easy on the eyes. The background score by Alexander complements the visuals perfectly. The rollicking title score sounds like a ferry crashing through the waves. I loved it. And loved your movie too.Best Regards, Pimpin.
