Scanialara You won't be disappointed!
Matialth Good concept, poorly executed.
Griff Lees Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
Billy Ollie Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
Leofwine_draca What this film lacks in originality, it more than makes up for in spirit. THE DEAD NEXT DOOR is a home-made, amateur zombie film, heavily influenced and inspired by Romero's trilogy - in fact I would go so far to say that it's a complete rip-off. Every plot turn and twist is "borrowed" in one way or another from NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, DAWN OF THE DEAD, and DAY OF THE DEAD, and these are easy to spot. However, don't expect this minor niggle to spoil the fun - far from it.The real fun comes from watching the endless parade of low-budget gore effects trotted out before us. In a mainstream film these would be awful - in this mini-masterpiece, they're a lot of fun. We've got fake blood squirting everywhere, body parts digested, everything you could wish for. Considering that some of the dismemberment scenes look very similar and of a matching quality to those in DAY OF THE DEAD shows you just how much Bookwalter and his team achieved on their budget. In fact I probably enjoy low budget gore more than high budget offerings, as you really get to see all the work put into the effects. The highlight here is a scene where a severed head bites off a man's fingers which are then ejected through the neck opening! The acting is awful - as to be expected. The music is unmemorable, and the opening and closing titles look just like they've been made on a computer - which they have been. These factors only help to add to the fun. As a point of interest, Sam Raimi's Renaissance Pictures actually helped to fund this film, and you may spot long-time Raimi collaborator Scott Spiegel low down in the cast list as a soldier. He's the guy who directed the supermarket slasher, INTRUDER. B-Movie fans take note that the principal character is dubbed by none other than the man himself, Bruce Campbell! For fans of amateur zombie films, this one is a treat.
BA_Harrison A low-budget zombie epic set in Akron, Ohio, The Dead Next Door is seriously hampered by uniformly dreadful turns from its entire cast, and writer/director J.R. Bookwalter's total inability to perform either role with any degree of competence or originality. Bookwalter, however, clearly isn't bothered by the fact that his players lack even the most basic of acting skills, that much of his material is obviously cribbed from George Romero's Day of the Dead (including a bargain basement version of classic zombie 'Bub'), or that he patently possesses zero talent as a scribe or behind the camera: he just soldiers on regardless, hoping that an excess of splattery gore will compensate for his pitiful performers, the uninspired plot, and derivative visuals. To be fair, the cheap and cheerful effects do go a long way towards making this film just about bearable, and I guess Bookwalter should be commended for getting such an ambitious project off the ground in the first place—after all, convincing so many Akron locals to don crap make-up and chew on offal for such a patently putrid project is an impressive feat in itself—but that still doesn't make up for the fact that this is zombie trash of the most pedestrian kind.A generous 4 out of 10 for the gore, minus one point for the characters being named after horror movie luminaries—Bookwalter couldn't even manage to be original there (this idea having been well and truly done to death in Night of the Creeps three years earlier).
lastliberal You know that something different is coming when the zombies try to rent Dawn of the Dead.Scott Spiegel has a long list of credits, but he sure was a lousy actor here. Glad to see him leave early. Of course, he wasn't too much worse than the rest of the zombie squad members, whose carelessness always seemed to get themselves in situations where they were bitten. This was an enjoyable zombie movie, with some great makeup and plenty of gore. Someone should have told the director that when the cult sacrifices someone, they should be naked.Loved the wacko reverend, his mullet-headed enforcer, and the religious cult. Seeing the rev get his just desserts was a thrill, all all mullet-heads should be eaten by zombies.
Catlin Massier It's not to bad, you can tell the movie is old just by the effects and the picture and the acting, but actually it wasn't all that bad. The zombies were more funny that scary, and it almost made me chuckle a few times because they act sort of funny, running around mumbling, the gore was good, I like when the guy got his throat bitten out, and when the one police officers fingers got bitten off reminded me of a scene from the remake of Wes Craven's "The Hills Have Eyes" which was my favorite part in that movie, so it was kind of cool to see a similar scene in this movie. To be honest I'm not done watch the movie right now, and it seems nothing will really change my review on this movie cause it's almost over. But if you like horror movies, and zombies and gore, then check out this movie, I'm not got promise you'll like it because everybody's taste in movies in different, but all I know is I enjoyed it. So feel free to check this movie out.
