TaryBiggBall It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.
Rio Hayward All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
rolfesam Old West is a movie that is very much a love letter to the western genre of film. Although the film takes on the look and feel of an old school it does take a several diversions from the classic formula in part by completely discarding any romanticized conventions of the genre and instead tells its story with almost a nihilistic realism towards the morality of the characters and there motives. I will criticize the acting of Kodi Smit-Mcphee is really a mixed bag. Overall it really is pretty good overall but his accent really decides when and when not it actually exists. It can be really annoying and actually quite baffling. It really is a shame really considering just how good Smit-Mcphee has been in prior roles. All the other actors in this movie do a great job, in particular Michael Fassbender does a really great job in his support role. And the cinematography and settings of Slow west are some of the most appealing memories of the movie even a week after my initial viewing of the movie. A lot of Westerns really bask in the glory that is the wide open and seemingly unending beauty of the American West but Slow West really steps up its game. I have to think this probably has more to do with the fact that they filmed in New Zealand and not in America or Mexico but it captures the amazing feeling non-the- less. In the end I do really recommend this film to any fans of the Western genre, I just wish I could give it a better score than I did but Kodi Scot-Mcphee just didn't bring his A-game to the main role.
adonis98-743-186503 'Slow West' follows a 16-year-old boy on a journey across 19th Century frontier America in search of the woman he loves, while accompanied by mysterious traveler Silas. Michael Fassbender is a great and talented actor just watch the X-Men Trilogy he was amazing in those films unfortunately he has chose projects in his career that were so bland and bad that i couldn't even finish them including Slow West a movie that has bland characters, mediocre acting and many dumb and salty scenes that got me so bored that i had to skip the whole thing make yourself a favor and don't watch this movie please. I'll give it an 4/10
st6374 I was so genuinely charmed by this movie that I decided to write a review for the first time as a member of IMDb. I watched this movie without knowing what to expect. I had just watched Hateful 8 and was quite disappointed with the ending. So when I was a bit skeptical when I was about to watch another western movie from a new director. But all my apprehensions disappeared 5 minutes into the movie. Its quite an impressive debut for director John Maclean. Slow West revolvers around a young Scottish boys journey into the 19th century outlaw America in the search for the girl he loves. In his journey he is accompanied by a mysterious outlaw in Michael Fassbender. The plot seems pretty simple and the movie itself is only 90 mins. However within that time the movie is able to portray the wilderness of the 19th century, A young mans quest for love, and an outlaws way of life. However its the ending that makes you wonder what exactly the message of this movie. And for as simple as it is it does make you think for a while.
j-a-pollock I am writing this review fresh from watching SLOW WEST which in my humble opinion is absolute mince. Another reviewer called it surreal and that just about sums it up. Very poor entertainment, no chances of any prizes for this film. Three of us watched it together and within twenty minutes it was unanimous to switch it off. However, as the eternal martyr (as in, I paid for it) I continued alone to the end, and what a weird end it has. I won't give away what very little story-line there is as it is too trivial and unconvincing to put into words. My only reason for writing this is to reduce the Star Rating on this film which is FAR FAR too high. I can't think what the other reviewers were on when they rated this, but we all want some!! John Pollock.
