Aiden Melton The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.
Arianna Moses Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
Dennis Moore I want to start by saying I normally really like Kevin Smith movies. With this one he makes a few logical leaps that I simply don't think is realistic. I'll talk about those in a minute. The good - the action is pretty good. The church folks behave like good little crazy zealots, making the audience clearly see them as villains. I thought that the acting was well done in the film as well. The problem is the ATF agents are also villains. There are really no good character in this movie aside from the poor kids that are held captive. John Goodman's character casually orders his subordinates to execute everyone. Everyone... the church folk AND the people they are holding prisoner... really? And why is this? Basically because he can since the news has not caught wind of any of the events transpiring. That in and of itself doesn't make a lot of sense, but then on top of that none of his subordinates question his orders. You're telling me that your run of the mill ATF agent is ok with gunning down innocent people? I don't think so. Don't get me wrong there are bad people out there in the world and some of them are in positions of power like this, but up to this point none of the characters behaved like a bunch of cold blooded murderers. It's a logical leap that I just cannot follow. It can be assumed that the characters have families/children. There is no way all over even most of them would be alright with murder. At the very least one of them would have thought about this being done to their family and turned on Goodman.I love you Kevin Smith, but you should stick with comedies.
The Couchpotatoes Well I did like the movie. Not specially for the acting or the writing but because I'm a convinced atheist. And watching movies that ridicule religions is just mind kinda soup. Everybody is entitled to have his beliefs, and I have no problems with that, but some (or many) are just too extreme and should just keep their mouth shut about it and just be retarded by themselves. In Red State you get the extreme religious Christians, with their hate towards everything that does not represent their stupid book. You would think it's all fiction but sadly there are tons of retards thinking like that. The world would be better off without all those lunatics. The movie will not be remembered for it's great acting or story, but it will amuse people like me, that's for sure.
hiskih This film has severe credibility problems. In fact, I would rather believe everything that happens in a previous Kevin Smith outing, "Dogma". Here, the naturalistic style sets demands for a credible plot, and these demands are not met. The antics of the three youngsters are barely believable, the church services even less so - and the actions of the authorities definitely not.Apart from credibility, it gets quite depressing. Everyone you supported gets shot, and the characters most deserving to get killed survive. In a normal film, Jared and Cheyenne would survive and fall in love - that would have been predictable, but more entertaining than this gloomfest. The ending is a complete failure. Apparently the money ran out and the filmmakers were forced to improvise a cheap interrogation scene to tie the loose ends.On the positive side, Michael Parks is excellent as the patriarch of the cult - exactly as they are in real life. The other actors are all good too, it is a pity that the script lets them down.
CZelden This movie starts off OK. Three kids in a town that has within it a Westboro Baptist Church style sect go out to have sex. They go up to a trailer and meet an older woman and the awkwardness of this scene made it great. Then it all turns to hell.As a viewer you can see the 'twist' here coming a mile away. I don't have a real problem with that. It's a way of creating suspense. What I have a problem with is that none of the decisions of anyone from this point on make any sense. I ended up yelling at the screen, because this level of stupidity is just unbelievable. Now having seen it (thankfully it's not that long) I've come to these hypotheses about what went wrong. First, the script started of being a comedy, but it isn't anymore and they didn't change the script enough to make it work. Second, they didn't raise enough money to make the police effort in this movie make anything close to reasonable. Third, they wanted good actors and they got them, but probably out of financial reasons, they are not on screen for long. Fourth, because of the rewrites no one knew what the point was anymore and the story became pointless and almost offensive in it's stupidity. In conclusion, this is an infuriatingly bad movie to see. It has no point, it makes no sense and the tone is all over the place. They could have taken the story in any number of places that would have created a satisfying story, but they didn't. It ends up being an awful movie with good actors whom I feel sorry for.Just skip it, you won't enjoy it.
