Beanbioca As Good As It Gets
CrawlerChunky In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
InformationRap This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
Kaelan Mccaffrey Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
Smoreni Zmaj When a movie is good, I have the desire to praise and recommend it, when it's bad I have the need to criticize it, and those really desperate inspire me to make fun of them. "Punisher: War Zone" does not belong to any of these groups. To me, this is the worst kind of movie, because you can not either love it or hate it. It leaves you totally indifferent because it's drowning in a boring mediocrity. This film does not bring absolutely nothing but the nearly two hours of continuous gunfire, and even that is not on a particular level. Neither is tense, nor is it exciting, nor does it have interesting choreography and directing. Absolutely nothing noteworthy. Unprovoked, completely pointless and redundant film. In comparison with its 2004 predecessor, this is a complete failure.5/10
Platypuschow I really enjoyed The Punisher (2004) though I don't think Thomas Jane made a good Punisher he is a competent enough actor to have pulled it off. When I heard about this one 4yrs later I had no interest, I was frustrated that it had essentially been rebooted and that Jane was no longer playing Frank Castle. Here we are 9yrs later I've finally given it a chance and I'm saddened I didn't earlier. Punisher: War Zone is not the brainless action flick cash grab that I expected, in fact it rivals the 2004 version. For a start Ray Stevenson is perfectly cast as The Punisher, he looks perfect and blows Jane & even Lungren out of the water. He thoroughly takes the role and makes it his amidst a host of great actors and characters.Extremely violent and quite loyal to the original material this is something I could have gotten behind if it had become a franchise.I'm not an action junkie, in fact I'd say it is by far one of my least favourite genres but when its done right like it is here it makes for some great entertainment.Ignore the critics and put the 2004 version aside for a moment, War Zone is a damn decent film. The Good: Remarkably violent (As it should be) Awesome soundtrack Very competent cast Ray Stevenson makes a great Punisher The Bad: Accents are hit and miss Recasting/Reebooting so soon after the last movie was a stupid move Hero is a Christian, villain is an atheist. Overwhelming irony Jigsaw monologue scene was dumb Things I Learnt From This Movie:I would love to see this Punisher added to the Marvel Universe R-Rated superhero movies were a thing before Deadpool Julie Benz is ageless
generationofswine It's really rather bad. The Punisher 1989 was a B-Movie that pulled it off. The Punisher 2004 was a high budget movie that came close. The Punisher: War Zone is just awful.I credit the villains. Jigsaw and Loony Bin dominate the movie, they are the real stars and they are little more than cartoon villains in a bloody action movie. They are caricatures that would fit in better with the world of Dick Tracy than with the world of the Punisher. The sad part is the Villains make the movie, Peter Pan would be nothing without Captain hook. Heroes need something ominous and threatening to pit themselves against. The worse the villain the better the hero. The Punisher is up against two cartoon characters. Tom and Jerry on steroids. It kills the entire film. It makes it unwatchable. Over the top but not in a good Heath Ledger the Joker sort of way. No, they were over the top in a makes you want to walk out of a movie sort of way. It's just bad, comically bad and not in the good Evil Dead way.Stay away, stay far away.
Son-of-WRA I didn't expect Shakespearean quality in this picture. I knew I was watching someones interpretation of a comic book story. I get the lack of common sense and I try not to invoke too much plausibility because a story cannot be without some characters poor choices. For about the first half hour, I thought the movie flowed well and the cinematography was perfect. However, as it played on, the film devolved to the point of a third-rate feature at some long-forgotten drive-in of my youth. You know, the kind you didn't mind taking a break from in order to visit the snack shack. This film has its fans of course and I can understand the appeal. But I grew tired of gore after enduring much of it during the 80's because it just doesn't carry any shock value, nor does it tell us anything we can't already imagine. While Ray Stevenson depicts Frank Castle much better that Thomas Jane or Dolph Lundgren, and his interaction with the daughter of the FBI agent he killed is bittersweet, there wasn't much else to the entire production to elicit more than a rating of 2.I believe that the film was lost behind the scenes after I read the trivia section. There were the usual machinations that occur on every film production, but unfortunately for "Punisher: War Zone" they were insurmountable and it shows.
