InformationRap This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
Brainsbell The story-telling is good with flashbacks. The film is both funny and heartbreaking. You smile in a scene and get a soulcrushing revelation in the next.
kiwie94-109-976151 I could not help giving this movie a 10/10. As a mother with a son with autism this movie gave me so much hope for the future not only for my son yet for my niece who also has autism. It's about time that Autism is brought to light to the mainstream public since most don't understand it or don't even know about it. Dakota Fanning nailed the part of Wendy & her autism. The not making eye contact, looking at pictures of people to put faces to moods. I went through that with my son yet at a much younger age (he's 23 now & still struggles). Not only watching Wendy have a job gives me hope for my son & niece since neither of them are as high in the autism spectrum as the character Wendy. Every autistic child/adult normally has (at least) one thing that they are exceptionally good at. In fact autistic children will score genius on I.Q. tests. While Wendy's is Star Trek & writing, my so excells with computers & also with computer games, & my niece is already a prodigy when it comes to graphic novel art, & drawing characters on a computer at the age of 12. Her Dad just graduated in the field of graphic design for computer games so he gave her all of his school equipment that he used & she's almost surpassed him without any education instruction. This movie shows an array of not just the difficulties with living with autism yet how far some might be willing to go out of their comfort zone to achieve their dream.
nwrick1 How in this day and age did Dakato not win a award for this performance. Absolutely amazing!! Great movie from beginning to end. I'm still standing by!! Loved it!!
chasmitpayme I was pleasantly surprised by this fantastic, rather Independent movie. The movie as I said in my headline I believe is better than some major titles. I didn't see the Academy Award Winner , that Water one but I venture to guess that I would prefer this to that also. The movie is poignant, happy, sad, well paced, fantastically directed and of course lifted by the presence of the brilliant Dakota Fanning. I found myself rooting for her character, hoping she'd get the entry in time for the Star Trek contest she is trying to enter. Alice Eve and Toni Colette also deliver commanding performances as Wendy's ( Dakota's) sister and care taker respectively. While the story leaves out a few details like where is Wendy's father , the film is none the less not diminished one bit. The movie takes us to a fantastic and fitting conclusion that teaches us about love and acceptance and finding where you belong in life. I loved the film in every way. Two thumbs enthusiastically way up for this way above average movie!
muaddibb-69480 I truly do not understand the reviewers who disliked this film. as my title implies, this is a heartwarming tale with a twist. anyone with a heart will love this small, indie film. the story and the acting are superb. and i simply cannot say enough about dakota fanning's performance. the whole thing will have you rooting for fanning's character, wendy, and reaching for the tissue box at the same time, although, having said that, know that the film is in no way overtly sentimental or self-indulgent. just moving and engaging. it is simply a good story that is well told and that will hold your interest from scene to scene straight through to the end. i highly recommend this little known gem to "everybody here," as jimi said at monterey, " with hearts, any kind of hearts and ears...." i promise, you will not be disappointed..
