Josephina Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Caryl It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties. It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.
Francene Odetta It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
nikster-48731 we couldn't even finish this as it was ridiculous from the get-go. UM. you're in an apt bldg - maybe scream or something? I love love love Michael Keaton but he seemed very fake and uninterested and it was "everything that could go wrong" could type thing..Sorry, a waste of the 30mn we forced ourselves to sit through.
Spikeopath After being rendered blind by a suicide bomber, one time war photographer Sara (Michelle Monaghan), finds love with Ryan (Andrew Walker). But one day her life is once again turned upside down when she is terrorised in her own home...Distinctly mundane thriller that harks back to other blind women under threat thrillers released previously. Penthouse North (the swanky place where Sara lives with Ryan) brings absolutely nothing new to the formula, not even - in fact - adding a twist or any sort of surprises. It's interesting to take on board the advancements in technology for the blind, though even this aspect is short changed in the run-of-the-mill plot. The villains are a couple of staple writing jobs, with Michael Keaton as Chad phoning it in, while the attempts to make Chad extra nasty are laughably lazy and irresponsible into the bargain.Monaghan's performance is commendable, she does enough to have you rooting for her whilst enjoying her resourcefulness, and the cinematography (Chris Seager) is most pleasing, both in colour lenses and glorious city scapes. But ultimately, one can forgive implausibilities in a thriller of this type, but not lazy unadventurousness that smacks of film making to fulfil a contract or even as a tax write off job. 4/10
dsantisp I've watched this movie now because I'm scheduling a thematic channel. As I said in 'Source Code' review I love Michelle (and her Irish surname, not Welsh, sorry). However this one is not her best role. What the writer wants to say about this woman? I think her character is killed after the tension of the thriller. There is something more in the plot, but the resolution is somewhat crude.Blind woman alone in her house with a murderer stalking. Certainly the best is Audrey Hepburn in 'Wait Until Dark', and Uma Thurman in 'Jennifer 8' is different. But not this one (all sacrificed to thriller). As for Michael Keaton, luckily came Iñárritu into his life (with the permission of Downey Jr.).
Film Watchin Fool Why You Might Like It: For starters, it was good to see Michael Keaton back on screen and he does a fine job in this movie. Of note, all of the cast put on solid performances. This film is filled with suspense and has a few twists and turns that make it a fairly entertaining film. There are many better films in this genre, but the story is good enough to keep you engaged throughout. Overall, it is a slightly above average thriller/suspense film that is mainly carried by the acting instead of the content itself. Why You Might Not Like It: If movies with a large amount of unrealistic moments bother you, then you should skip this movie. There are many flaws and issues that will bother you if you don't go with the flow and just watch the movie at face value. As mentioned, this movie is fairly average and predictable so you won't be seeing anything outstanding if you choose to watch it. Possibly the most obvious knock is that the lead character's blindness seems to improve as the movie progresses, which is the main reason for much of the unbelievable moments in the film.Acting/Casting: 6.5* Directing/Cinematography/Technical: 5.5*Plot/Characters: 5.5* Entertainment Value: 5.5* Total - 6.5+5.5+5.5+5.5 = 23/4 = 5.75 - Worth a watch
