ChanFamous I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.

I-Am-The-Movie-Addict If you thought current movies are advanced, better and superior to the previous ones, then you must make a visit to this Govind Nihalani's masterpiece like his others Ardh Satya (1983) & Tamas (1987), because this is what a CINEMA SHOULD BE ALL ABOUT. This Govind Nihalani's film once again tackles social and personal issues without being judgmental or clichéd, looking back at his back, one might feel that way but to be very honest, despite being adapted from Marathi playwright Mahesh Elkunchwar's play, it never feels that way and instead grows and goes up to be of its own and on its own merit.The film at first viewpoint, might make you believe that it might be about political parties looking at the time period being made and the Indian crisis going on then. But as you step into this film, you'll see that it is the other-way round, where party might represent both the political one and the get together of specials classes of people. Here, the get together is of aristocrats and of those people who live a better life from the normal and below average ones and how they just solve their personal problems and social issues just by talking and fantasizing. There's no songs, no action but just pure drama and story that keeps going on and on above the ground towards the sky with the best you can expect in the name of performances from actors like Naseeruddin Shah (you wont expect him), Om Puri, Manohar Singh, Vijaya Mehta, Rohini Hattangadi, Deepa Sahi, Amrish Puri (at his best), Shafi Inamdar, Mohan Bhandari, Ila Arun, Soni Razdan, Jayant Kripalani, Pearl Padamsee, and many among others.After watching this film, you would commit suicide looking at the quality and quantity of the films we are making in comparison to his one film that leaves us spellbound and wait, haven't i told you about the conversation during the second half that happens between Om Puri and Amrish Puri regarding the role of films, art, filmmakers and society they live in?

For the Love of Good Cinema This movie is aimed at the elite artist class and how they escape their responsibility towards the society, even though they have the perfect mouthpiece in the form of their art.The movie starts as a party gathering of rich people of the society, consisting of artists, their patrons, critics, and socialites. It is a celebration in the honor of a recipient of a literary award.As the movie progresses, it unfolds the personal lives and the tension among the pretentious guests. There are mixed feelings of jealousy, pompousness and love for popularity.Amrit, another literary person, is not present in the party. We form his character from the comments of the guests. While most of the guests look down upon him, he is the only one to stand up for his responsibility of writing about and participating in the problems of the society, in this case, the problems of the remote tribals.He comes on the screen only at the end of the movie.Overall, an amazingly beautiful film, breaking the regular-movie mold. movies.

we_prakashs but isn't this movie about people! people in general. in fact the story could apply to any people, any country. Behind the guise of adivasi exploitation (which of course is India specific and I don't deny its existence or absence) it actually questions morality, general apathy towards social issues and the role of an artist in participating in the solution rather than just commenting on it or evoking others' emotions on it (recall the long conversation that ends the movie before the news about Amrit is broken) this could have been written for any country, any society as for your other examples of 'good' movies, no comments :)Cheers, Prakash.

Shahrukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Karishma Kapoor, and Akshay Khanna.Thanks and Regards.
