FuzzyTagz If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
Gurlyndrobb While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
Dana An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
wes-connors During a snowstorm, dimpled David Nicolle (as Pete MacGregor) drives to an old Scottish mansion. Just before the credits, we see his romantic interest, dark-haired Amelia Warner (as Laura), in a desperate moment. She is running around with a bloody knife; this is from a scene appearing later... Back to the present, nine friends settle in for the 21st birthday party given by their celebrated host, Patrick Kennedy (as Tim). He is Mr. Nicolle's former college roommate. Other friends from school include pre-med student Ben Peyton (as Andy) and spectacled James Schlesinger (as Damien). In case you're wondering, Mr. Schlesinger wears contact lenses in the early scenes and puts on his glasses when he gets ready for bed. Long-haired Vivienne Harvey (as Lucy) is there, with beautiful blonde ex-roommate Rosie Fellner (as Emma) and American sexpot Paris Hilton (as Jo)...Although Ms. Hilton is heralded as the "star" of this film, she is one of the least important characters and does not take up very much screen time. Her boyfriend, blond bearded Lex Shrapnel (as Tom), gets the party started when he spies a ghastly image in the bathroom mirror. Yes, the house turns out to be haunted. Proving herself to be the smartest knife in the drawer, Ms. Warner figures things out quicker than most. There is nothing extraordinary about "Nine Lives", but Nicolle and Warner are likable in the leading roles and director Andrew Green works well with the cast and setting. He is especially good with photographer Robin Vidgeon on shadowy stairways, particularly when they follow "Pete" and "Damien" around the house.****** Nine Lives (8/26/02) Andrew Green ~ David Nicolle, Amelia Warner, Ben Peyton, James Schlesinger
SpastikMooss and I've seen a lot. I rented this last winter as part of a 50 movie+ horror fest that contained enjoyable films like Don't Look Now, Valentine, and Suspiria. I had recently rented two lousy films titled Junior and S.I.C.K.(Serial Insane Clown Killer) and was a bit depressed at how bad cinema could be. So I rented a cheesy looking Paris Hilton film...I had loved House of Wax so how bad could it be, right? Soooo wrong. This is easily the worst film I've ever seen. The acting was dumb...the shots were dumb...Paris Hilton died pretty much immediately...it was just horrible. And I know this is what everyone else has said, minus a few people. But I really don't think I can get across by cyberspace just how bad this film was. The premise was alright and even sort of interesting, it was just so horribly done in its acting and shooting that I wanted to gouge my eyes out. And I generally give leeway to any film, even if I don't like it (even S.I.C.K. had a decent twist).I guess what I'm trying to say is please, for the love of humanity, don't ever see this film. I'm sure the director and actors meant well. But I like to think I died a little bit in side the cold January day I watched this. I never knew what it meant to want an hour and a half of your life back. Now I do.
sean-chard Why in the sake of decency does the film cover say "Paris Hilton - Zoolander", like she played a major role in the film...she was only in it for 2 seconds and it was the worst 2 seconds of the movie!! she always looks like she's gonna fall asleep - and lets be fair, her acting causes the same tired look to occur in the features of the audience.....there are a select few who should never be allowed to "act" Paris is top of that list! Along with Ant & Dec Busta Rhymes and Haley Joel Osment (except in sixth sense) please tell me other people agree with me here...Movies as crap as this should not be able to leach positive publicity because of a talentless wannabe having a very short cameo in a good movie....I consider Jesse Heiman more of a celebrity and the guy's just an extra!
Sherazade But Paris Hilton wasn't that bad in this one, she was actually more decent that any of her other roles. The only reason I managed to give it two stars is for the wonderfully talented Amelia Warner who somehow found herself trapped on the set of this film. Amelia, how could you let this happen to you? It's the story of 9 friends who go to spend the weekend celebrating the birthday of one of their friends in his father's countryside manor, a legendary haunted estate where they all begin to disappear one by one in the middle of the night. With every body that turns up, each other believes that the next person is the killer and so they all set out trying to kill each other before the next person is killed. I know, even I can't wrap my head around that.
