Moustroll Good movie but grossly overrated
BallWubba Wow! What a bizarre film! Unfortunately the few funny moments there were were quite overshadowed by it's completely weird and random vibe throughout.
StyleSk8r At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
Ezmae Chang This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
dale-51649 The movie is good, with nice odd pacing that builds the suspense well, It's the casting that keeps it from being great. Still worth a one eyed viewing , though. Eisenberg does good as the brooding weirdo, and Fanning is't too bad- but a bit blank, even for her. .That vacuous stare comes in handy as the amenable go along ( a little TOO convincing though). You almost want to paint pupils in her eyes. Problem is, Peter "Sashgaard" cast as an "X con X marine" (thats not a typo,Saashgard and X marine in the same sentence) didn't work. It was like casting Betty White as a Hell's Angel. His costume said "hood" but , no offense , his accent screamed VASSAR ! ( Vassar BEFORE they went co ed). Basic group of not too bright semi hippy dippy types decide to blow up a dam, and damned if they don't make all kinda mistakes. I like the way it moves slowly to build up the suspense. It's also realistic where the chick starts spazing out, a nice break from the ubiquitous cool calm ass kicker Jolieesque" portrayal which is the flavor of the day. The ending is also a nice twist, different, nice for a change.
Jeff2sayshi Night Moves is an examination of three individuals who plot to blow up a dam, in hopes of making a statement about our environment. The build up in tension as the film focuses on the plotting, acquiring of materials up to the moment of action and its immediate aftermath is very well done. It may not be the fastest moving in getting to the point, but that just helps build tension. The area where the movie falters is the second half, where we examine the mental toll what they've done takes on our main characters. This has potential to be very interesting, but it ends up taking far too long. Cutting 10-15 minutes of staring at actors in thought would have made it tighter and overall a better movie.
raoulvandehaar If you want to see a thriller, don't watch this movie. Longest 2 hours of my life. Taking 2 minutes for a shot that should last 10 seconds doesn't make it art. It makes it boring, as hell. You don't feel any sympathy for the characters. You only think please let them die and get this movie over with. But no, that wouldn't be pretentious enough I guess... I have read some positive reviews, are you guys sadist? You are fooling people into thinking this movie is in some way worth viewing. This is not a thriller. If it was a drama than okay you could give it some points, there are some people that like this kind of movie. But for a thriller, no. This is no thriller
g-bodyl If you are a fan of slow-paced, character-driven movies, than Night Moves is the perfect movie for you. This film presents a rather good theme regarding environmentalism and saving the planet, but the film, even by my standards, move at such a snail pace, it would be hard to watch the film. That being said, it has a moving story and great acting as we should expect with such a character-driven drama. And no, this film is not about Bob Seger's "Night Moves," as one would want to expect, haha. Kelly Reichart's film is about how three radicalized people decide to blow up a dam and the unforeseen consequences they face due to their actions. I thought everyone gave compelling performances in the movie. Jesse Eisenberg does a good job as the leader of the plot, Josh. He was mostly sullen and conflicted, but then again his character had to be. Dakota Fanning does a fine job as Dena, who begins to raise doubts after the incident. Peter Sarsgaard was pretty good as Harmon, the ex-Marine who seems quite suspicious. Overall, Night Moves is a slow-moving, but very interesting drama. I liked the characterization and I even liked the ending, as it leaves a message open to interpretation. But on the other hand, the movie crawling at such a slow pace can be a tad irritating. But this movie does have interesting themes to play with and relevant themes as well. My Grade: B-
