In a village in eastern Turkey, tales of the economic success of Turks in Switzerland inspire Haydar to convince his wife Meryem that they must go. He sells their livestock and small plot of land in exchange for passage for two. He wants to leave their seven children in the care of the eldest and his parents; his father advises him to take one son to be educated in Europe, as economic insurance. The three set off for Istanbul, Milan, and Switzerland, stowing away on a ship. At Lake Como, they pay the rest of their money to unprincipled men who abandon them at an Alpine pass before a blizzard. Father and son are separated from Meryem. Will anyone reach the land of promise?

Connianatu How wonderful it is to see this fine actress carry a film and carry it so beautifully.
Tayyab Torres Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.
Paynbob It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
Billy Ollie Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
arx00 A family from the impoverished Eastern Turkey believe they will find heaven in Switzerland and they decide to illegally immigrate. They are coy and their travels are filled with hope against much hardship. The result is a beautiful film that is very touching. The film's sole focus is on the human aspect of migration of a close knit family. There are no political messages or judgements here, and in my view this simplicity empowers the drama....a family trying to survive in a complex world through migration. The father and the son are both great actors and the film accurately represents the social environment of Eastern Turkey which often offers third world conditions as opposed to Western Turkey. This was especially true when the film was shot.
gavin6942 The story of a poor Turkish family who try to emigrate illegally to Switzerland.Although I do not think it is necessary to appreciate the film, I know almost literally nothing about Alevism, the religious denomination the family in this film practices. The importance, if any, is really in trying to find a new identity in a new land. Does Switzerland have a Muslim community? Surely. But of this particular branch? I do not know. The tale is really rather universal. Almost all of us are immigrants or descended from immigrants. Not all of us had such a harrowing time, but the transition is never easy. And today (2017) the topic of immigration is a big one yet again, both in America and in Europe. This film really has us looking at the idea from a human perspective rather than a political one.
rowiko This is as powerful as a drama can possibly get! It's a story that in real life has probably repeated itself over and over again. The origin of the people may have changed. The location of their treacherous journey may have changed. But essentially, the drama remains the same, be it 20 years ago in the Swiss Alps, or today somewhere in the Mediterranean between Northern Africa and Italy. Those fleeing from Political turmoil, from war or simply from poverty, will do anything to find a better life, and hope is what is driving them. And along the way they are more than likely to come across scrupulous criminals whose sole interest is to make money out of the misery of those poor souls trying to find "paradise".I cannot think of a movie that would portray this better than "Journey Of Hope". It's extremely powerful and comes across as very believable all the way. No wonder, as the story repeats itself in reality time and time again. Only the outcome may vary.I can only recommend this film!
jbergez-1 This film takes you on one family's impossible journey, and makes you feel every step of their odyssey. Beautifully acted and photographed, heartbreakingly real. Its last line, with its wistful hope, is one of the more powerful in memory.
