PodBill Just what I expected
Contentar Best movie of this year hands down!
Robert Joyner The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
Arianna Moses Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
Kim Heniadis I really enjoyed this one. There were so many cheesy lines that I could see a group of friends getting together every winter to watch this one, and shout the lines at the TV, just like with Rocky Horror Picture Show. I also thought the beginning with the grandpa telling the kid a story very amusing. If I had kids, this is probably something I would do.There were bits with gore, but that too was amusing, and you could tell way before hand how someone was going to get killed. I'm not one of those horror loving people who can tell you all the various actors/directors and what they've done, but I did recognize Shannon Elizabeth from Saved by the Bell. She played a horny teenager, and it made me wonder if she made this one before or after American Pie. (Checked and this one was before.)Small spoiler….The one thing I couldn't get over at the end, but in a good way, was that the son made his dad some oats and put antifreeze in it to "Keep him warm". When the dad found out he just laughed. All I could think was, Your kid is trying to kill you, and you just laugh it off??? But it amused me, and this will probably be the only thing I remember if you ask me about this movie ten years from now.
dmcfry I sincerely hope that you did not watch this movie expecting to see Oscar material. In fact, I hope you did not watch this expecting a movie that is anything close to good. While the title may mislead a bit (due to a family-friendly film with Michael Keaton being released around the same time, also about a living snowman), one look at the cover and one quick read of the plot snippet should have clued you in on the fact that this movie is pure B-level horror gold. It's about a serial killer who, by crazy circumstances, continues his murderous rampage as a mutant, killer snowman, for crying out loud! However, despite its many flaws (and there are many), there is a lot to like here. For one, there's certainly spirit behind the production. There's not much budget, the script is weak, the story has plot holes you could drive an 18-wheeler through...but that's what makes it great. We don't watch crappy horror movies to see cinematic perfection. We watch them to be entertained. And while this little flick will never win any major awards, I can certainly attest to the fact that I was, if nothing else, entertained. I recommend at least one watch.
FairlyAnonymous Jack Frost is one of those horror movies that might seem like it was horribly directed and horribly made, but you start to realize that the movie is intentionally hilarious. The movie is full of horror movie tropes, but it is clever enough to actually make the tropes hilarious and amazing. The movie opens with hilarious dialogue of an uncle telling her niece a story about a murderer on Christmas Eve... it is quite obvious the niece doesn't want to listen and that the uncle is a bit bloodthirsty. This opening scene is irrelevant to the plot but it puts the viewer's mind in the right view: This movie will use clichés and then make them hilarious. The plot is about a mass murderer who accidentally gets sprayed with genetic altering material which binds his soul to Snow/water. The mass murderer does what you would expect a mass murderer to do... he goes on a rampage and kills people in some hilariously funny ways. For one example, someone hears the voice of the snowman and thinks the murderer has come back so the man runs outside with an axe (but is unaware that the snowman in front of him is the mass murderer. What does Jack Frost do? Grab the axe and kill the man? Yes, but he SHOVES THE HANDLE OF THE axe DOWN THE MAN'S THROAT AT A PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE ANGLE. The axe head sticks out of the man's throat perpendicular to his head, yet the handle isn't sticking out of the back of his head, so that means the axe must've been bent into a 90 degree angle and then carefully rammed down his throat. What makes this even funnier is that later in the movie people actually comment on it and are equally confused. The movie is full of moments where you think you know where it is going, but then it takes a really funny twist. In one tense moment we there is a teenager in a house who could literally die in about 10 different ways when you look at his surroundings. You are constantly wondering "Okay, which object is going to kill him" and then... something entirely different kills him while heavy metal music is playing. While this movie is completely stupid, it is a movie that is having a great time with being stupid. The movie has some horrible cuts and camera angles, yet the way the movie emphasizes on these cuts makes it rather obvious that the movie intentionally trying to make lame cuts and overly dramatic camera angles that are embarrassingSome movies are so bad that they are good; however, some movies are cleverly bad and actually work. Jack Frost is still a bad movie, but it is entertaining and the solution on how to kill Jack Frost was brilliant. Throughout the movie there is an object that seems to remain in the plot, so it is obvious that it will be important, but we don't know why it will be important. Once this object plays its role, it is hilarious because it does so in a way you would've never expected.
breakdownthatfilm-blogspot-com Ever since slasher flicks became popular with the release of films like John Carpenter's Halloween (1978), many films have been produced that have been influenced from ones of the past. But then there came another wave of slasher films that occurred during the holiday season. The one's that viewers thought that no one would ever desecrate. This movie is apart of that family and it was released at a peculiar time as well. The title is the exact same as the Michael Keaton family holiday film a year later. However, this is the exact opposite of a family film. This horror slasher film is about a serial killer named Jack Frost who is caught by a town sheriff and sent off to death row where his transport crashes into a chemical truck. The chemicals are then absorbed by Frost and his surroundings (the snow) and become a mutant killer snowman, ergo his moniker. Is this the least bit scary? If you don't like evil looking snowmen I guess. Its genre is in horror but there truly isn't anything to be terrified of. Unfortunately, the film suffers from an over the top villain and too much campiness. I feel like director/writer Michael Cooney had intended this but think about it, who could take a killer snowman seriously? And Cooney has made better works, Identity (2003) is his best. However, this isn't to say that the villain isn't good. The actor who is originally on screen and then voices his evil counterpart, Scott MacDonald, is enjoyable as the antagonist. MacDonald's voice is dark, gruff and can sound very sinister and it makes that much more enjoyable when it comes out of an evil snowman. Sad to say, this is the only redeeming character of the cast. Christopher Allport as the troubled sheriff takes second place, but after him is hard to tell. The rest of the characters are so flat in dimension that it will be difficult for the viewers to feel anything for them. The violence and gore would also be more appreciated if it wasn't so quickly edited. That's not to say it was bad, and I understand the budget was low, but some of the kills were off screen and only the aftermath was shown which will disappoint the gore hounds. Also, the continuity isn't great - sometimes even the sounds are not properly aligned with the movements of the characters. For shame. The music on the other hand was good. Chris Anderson and Carl Schurtz produced a well-rounded creepy Christmas score that at least helped make this horror slasher film feel a bit better than its other average production elements. It's an OK film, just don't expect any bit of brilliance. The slasher version of Michael Keaton's family friendly film is fun trash thanks to the actor playing the villain, some good violence and appropriate music. Everything else however could have been improved upon greatly.
