Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
fullheadofsteam It is truly unfortunate that the rating for this movie on the IMDb website is so low. And the low reviews are by whom? Adults, of course! And that is precisely the problem. This movie was made for (shock, but yet a non-spoiler): kids! Here is the context in which you may perhaps best comprehend why this movie deserves a higher rating than that reflect at the IMDb site: I, as an adult, first saw this film with 2 other adults accompanying 2 kids, ages 13 and 8, in a theater loaded with kids (and many parents). All 3 of we adults found it entertaining, but that's not the true test...not only our 2 kids, ages 5 years apart, but the majority of all the other kids (and parents) in the theater wanted to, and did, stay to watch it again! Unless from another planet, mentally disengaged from real life, or otherwise impervious to observable fact, anyone should readily recognize that a bad movie cannot and does not captivate to the point that kids (AGAIN: the target audience) want to watch it again. And again. And again. So please don't let the IMDb overall vote, or negative reviews on this site by so-called adults, mislead. It is a terrific kids and family flick.
Armand easy comedy, adaptation of cartoons but very far by original, a too long joke. so, nothing special. the only problem is the ambition to be nice. because too many scenes are unrealistic at whole, absurd and fake. because the humor is to easy to define it as comedy. but, sure, for fun, only for fun without complications , it is a not bad choice.the second problem is the cast. Rupert Everett and Matthew Broderick are not the ideal option for a film about...nothing. so, only the conscience of chaotic work by director, the money and the need to give few drops of sense are excuses for this version. not the last,it remains the disappointment than it could be a decent movie. for entire family. but , maybe, it was not the team intention.
jfarms1956 Inspector Gadget is a movie for those 13 and older and who like the slapstick comedy movies. No one said that it had to be like the cartoon and it really isn't. It is difficult to take a cartoon and make it into a movie. Everybody has different expectations as to the storyline and the character development. It is a story in its own right. It is a good movie for the family to watch together and get a good laugh. Matthew Broderick always reminds me of Ferris Bueller. So, his comedy is similar. It is an entertaining movie and goes well with either popcorn or pizza and a soda. So enjoy the movie for its entertaining value to put a smile on your face and have you forget about your troubles during the flick. Can't really ask for more of a comedy.
PhilipVier Some films are just unbelievably bad. It makes you wonder who thought it would a good idea to produce such rubbish. Well, Inspector Gadget is one of those films. This film is really terrible. It's so terrible that there can't possibly be any good things in it, because they're overshadowed by the bad ones. The film hardly contains a story. It's more like a succession of horribly edited scenes, filled with stupid slapstick, and accompanied by horrible acting. Matthew Broderick plays Inspector Gadget and gives possibly the worst performance of his career, which is saying a lot in his case. The villain is played by Rupert Everett, who completely ignores the Doctor Claw character in the cartoon, and gives one of the worst performances in cinematic history. Throughout the whole film he just acts like a homosexual mental patient. All the other actors are hardly worth mentioning. Most of them are terrible and add nothing to the film. The one thing that's really exceptional about this film is the editing. It looks like it was done by someone who just had a lobotomy. In some scenes it feels like you entered right in the middle, and that a part of it was just cut out. The film also has some idiotic transitions between scenes, that are supposed to be funny, but are just completely pointless.Nothing about this movie is funny or even remotely entertaining. I know it's for children, but it's all just stupid, cheap slapstick with horrible, over the top acting. This is like someone took the Inspector Gadget cartoon, chopped it up, burned it, marinated it in diarrhoea, called it a motion picture, and served it to the audience. Don't bother watching it, unless you're in a masochistic mood.
