Evengyny Thanks for the memories!
BeSummers Funny, strange, confrontational and subversive, this is one of the most interesting experiences you'll have at the cinema this year.
BelSports This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Derry Herrera Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.
sddavis63 You know what? I've seen worse. In fact, I've seen a lot worse. There were some fun things in this. Overall, the performances were pretty good. In fact, I thought that Glenn Morshower as Ranger Bob played that part perfectly - straight-laced, all business, with even a certain fatherly side to him that came across pretty well. And, until the twist at the end ruined the fun of the character ('nuff said) I was even liking the character of Bebe (Emily Foxler.) I wondered, actually, if the name "Bebe" might have been a sort of take off on the character of "Phoebe" from the old TV series "Friends" (get the rhyme - "Bebe" and "Phoebe") because Foxler's way of portraying the character was actually a bit reminiscent of Lisa Kudrow's portrayal of Phoebe in that long running hit show. So, there were things in this movie that worked reasonably well, and that certainly lifted it out of the absolute bottom ranks of movies that I've seen with similar plots, where a bunch of unknown actors play a bunch of kids getting knocked off one by one. However, while it wasn't horrible, and I've definitely seen worse, this also wasn't very good. Let's start with the obvious. The basic plot line revolves around a group of kids sentenced to do community service for run-ins with the law. The "community service" ends up being to go way, way off into the woods, cleaning up the garbage they find along the way, until they get to the campground where, if I remember correctly, they're going to be camping for a week. Now, who in the world would send this particular bunch of kids off into the woods. Yeah, they have to be responsible, I know, but nobody in any position of authority (with the possibility of lawsuits galore) was going to look at these kids and send them off deep into the woods. Sorry. I just didn't buy that premise. I wasn't really sure why there was a need to throw the maniacal killer in at the beginning of the movie. In the end, he really wasn't that significant a character and was mostly distracting. I also thought the ending of the movie was dreadful. The twist in the Bebe character didn't work for me. I liked Bebe. I liked her wide-eyed innocence. I didn't need her to be anything other than what we had been led to believe she was. I didn't like the news report at the end of the movie. Come on. They think all these killings were the work of the maniacal killer? The authorities can't tell a bear attack when they see a victim? That was utterly ridiculous. And I was completely baffled by the very last scene of Morshower with the bear. What in the world did that have to do with the movie? And the bear song that plays at the beginning and the end? I'm not sure what to make of that. It's a silly song, kind of fun in its own way, but it can certainly start to grate after a while. So, no, it's not horrible. Some of it's even - well - not bad, and there are plenty of worse movies out there. But don't expect this to be great, either. (3/10)
Alice I wasn't expecting much when I rented "Grizzly Park." I'm not a fan of horror movies and only rented this due to the presence of Glenn Morshower as Ranger Bob. After reading a lot of reviews I was expecting a total mess of a film; it wasn't quite that bad.The idea of characters getting killed as punishment for their misdeeds isn't a new one in horror, or even in mystery (see "And Then There Were None"), but I liked the idea of this group of offenders being given a chance to repent their misdeeds. Needless to say, they don't. "Grizzly Park" is also beautiful to look at, as it was filmed on location in a couple of state parks (quibble: the movie is supposed to be set in a California state park, but the vegetation is clearly Eastern, witness all the deciduous trees changing color. It obviously isn't California). Some horror film aficionados may have downgraded the film due to its lack of sex and minimal violence - for a horror film. There are a couple of fairly graphic deaths for those who enjoy that sort of thing.Glenn Morshower turns in a great performance and I think his presence is reason enough to rent the film. It actually would have benefited from being longer, as we really don't get to know the characters very well. One of the extras on the disc includes interviews with the actors describing their characters as "deep" and "troubled." I'd call them "sketchy" myself. The so-called twist ending really didn't come as a surprise, but it was very rushed; not enough time was spent on it for it to be believable and it really felt tacked on. A couple more minutes would have been better here. Overall, if you're a fan of Mr Morshower and cheesy movies I think this is worth your time on a slow evening. I've certainly seen worse.
kai ringler Don't you just love watching a bunch of stupid kids, getting knocked off one by one by a slasher,, well this movie does you one better,, a big huge grizzly bear,, now i will tell you the one thing i absolutely hated int his movie was only one thing, and that was that ridiculous bear song at the beginning of the movie,, but hey i am very forgiving, the bear was not no CGI bear either,, real bear here folks. i loved the ranger,, pretty neat character if you ask me,, now the ending is really great i thought, but i can't give that away,, you'll just have to watch it for yourself.. there is also a killer on the loose in the park also,, which is something else to look out for too. all in all the movie had it funny moments, and some gore too,, not the greatest movie,, but a lot better than some of the garbage i've seen.
bones-knight For the last 21 years we have waited for a sequel to The Lost Boys which in my opinion is the best modern vampire flick ever to be made. So upon its release I purchased my copy and was delighted to find that not only would Corey Feldman be reprising his role as Edgar Frog but that Keifer Sutherland's younger half brother Angus would be playing the role of the lead vampire in the film. Well here's the verdict folks! It SUCKS! This is nothing more than a cheap departure from what made the original both special and successful! This is just another cheap excuse for a horror flick in 2008! Up until now I thought that Grizzly Park would have to win the Razzie for worst film of the year but that is no longer the case. It will clearly go to Lost Boys: The Tribe. I was also excited to hear that the original theme "Cry Little Sister" written by Gerard Mcmann would be covered in the film by a modern rock act, supposedly, by the name of Aiden. That was also lacking! In fact the producers of this film should have gotten the guy that penned the song "Dead Man's Hands " for Grizzly Park to do the cover of this song! As I am sure Gerard Mcmann himself would totally agree it would have been much more honest and believable. Bottom line- Do not buy this movie unless you want to support Feldman's drug habbit! bones
