Reviews

Phonearl Good start, but then it gets ruined
CrawlerChunky In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
Humaira Grant It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
Allison Davies The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Bahasura Wijesundara It's a slow moving story around 5 people & incident within a few days. Angie – a young widow, Rosie- her mother in law, Ferdie- Old post man, Savio – Ex friend of Angie, Pedro- artist of cause a cat; starts a road trip through very colorful yet isolated area of India to find a fictional Fanny who is the lost love. Without much dynamics story flow from start to end with few funny incidents in between & few of the strong points here and there. Where the Ferdie & Savio waits at a Railway crossing and the discussion points a very important value for the viewer to think, other than the funny instances all over the movie it presents the life of people without a drive who just live with the daily routines. Initially I was attracted by the poster & the trailer which featured Deepika (Angie) with as less cloths as possible & the story line. Upon starting of the movie talents of Naseerudden shah captured me, and then it got worse with introduction of other characters. All of those are either mentally retarded, unstable or broke, therefore what else to expect. Only character out-stand those are Angie obviously she is the narrator. I was lost in the way that I couldn't find the difference I was searching for in an Indian movie which showcased in the trailer & the poster. There is one more thing, lots of inner feelings of the unstable people are shown throughout the movie which generally would find in typical story lines, but I don't know where the direction lost its way to capture them. Just after the road trip starts it reminded me of a Hollywood movie "Little Miss Sunshine" this story is an exact replication of that movie; well may be the final destination. At the end Ferdie doesn't love of his life same as the viewer. What is there to find when it does not exist, Really Finding Fanny or Funny?
tamoorth There is nothing much to watch in film. There are so long and boring conversations. This film is just like that you watch its first 4 scenes and then last 4 you will understand the whole story.Acting is good by the way.Talking about story,i can say most awful story i have ever heard in my life.Finding Fanny revolves around five rather dysfunctional characters that live in the quaint sleepy village of Pocolim, nestled deep in the interior of Goa, India. Pocolim is a village where pointless conversations are a way of life.Indian filmmaker Homi Adajania clearly doesn't follow the Bollywood play book. finding fanny contains no musical numbers (save for an end credit throwaway); maintains a fairly consistent tone throughout; doesn't run a marathon length; and is in English, with subtitles for those unable to decipher the accents. However i can say i have never seen this type of bollywood film, but it is clear that Homi Adajania failed to maintain the satirical level of comedy in film.
agraser The film is all kinds of brilliance however its not everyone's cup of tea its deep its layered under weird quirk. A lot of metaphors and nuances will not be noticed if you see it as a usual bollywood fare actually you'll hate it if you see it that way because it'll be hard to understand why the 5 oddballs behave that way. There is a smart reasoning behind every move and expression. Rosie, Ferdy, Savio and Angie especially. Pedro is the hilarious one. The other 4 oddballs have the intriguing touch Esp Ferdy, Rosie and Angie. The cat part is dealt in the most fascinating way there is a tragic humor in that which reflected after its death scenes starting with Angie crying and Savio exposing Rosie's negligence. Ferdy never loved Fanny he is a sweet childlike dreamer who built an imaginary world with Fanny, he imagined her to be the same pretty teen he last saw some 40 years ago he was in love with that imaginary world and that dream not her. The most serious and tragic scenes shown in a quirky weird manner. It'll either make you say What or you'll go a little deep or joint 2 and 2 and see WHY. Its brilliant, its smart and its enjoyably Sweet. Naseer is adorable as Ferdy his voice pitching, laid-back body language its perfect. Dimple is hilarious so is Pankaj. As Savio, Arjun gave his career best performance and Deepika Padukone slams it on detractors face again proves why she is number 1 today. The girl's screen presence, body language, the ease is wonderful she is utterly beautiful as a performer, she looked like drop of fresh dew. The scene between Arjun and Deepika after they make love will go down as one of the most natural scenes in movies. You feel like its not acting and filming, more like someone left a camera there its that natural. Its the naturalness, lights and subtle handling of their scenes that I felt like Angie and Savio were real not actors Deepika and Arjun. Their little interactions were worth every penny this understated chemistry is one of the best things about Finding Fanny. The background music is one of the highlights of the film. The gorgeous piece have hauntingly sweet quality. Another highlight is the flawless cinematography Goa captured exceptionally well. The film would have looked soul less if cinematography was weak. Goa, the sky blue car, the greens the sky they all have a character of their own. Take a bow Team Finding Fanny what a lovely little bitter sweet film with outstanding performances. Hats off Adajania !
Zoheb Haider It is quite delightful to see a movie like this coming from bollywood roots although the star cast itself guaranteed that it was going to be a treat to watch performance-wise. Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia are all fantabulous actors and they lived up to their reputations perfectly... Deepika Padukone did her part in a not so glam role but some decent acting for a change.. The quirky humor and cinematography are exemplary. The story conveys so much. The cat, makes for such a moving scene where it is shown how important it is in life to not just own love but to nurture it too. A very small and yet so powerful statement being made and it was just a part of the entire story. The search for a lost love, to be so silent about it and keep it within when his persona is shown to be so irresponsible and insane is just so admirable. Its not always about the destination, sometimes just the joy of the journey is what is required... Its never too late to find a lost love when you've seen it and felt it.. Awesome movie, must watch!!!!
