Platicsco Good story, Not enough for a whole film
Kien Navarro Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
Portia Hilton Blistering performances.

mte4 please don't rent or even think about buying this movie.they don't even have it available at the red box to rent which would cost a $1 & i think its worth less than that.the main reason why i rented this d movie was because Jenna Jameson is in the movie lol between 2-5 min.i will give credit that the movie had hot chicks and quite a bit of nudity but other than that you might as well buy another d horror movie that has the same thing with nobody you know.Ginger Lynn has more acting time in this movie than Jenna & she's not even on the front cover of the movie nor her name.i recommend people to watch zombie strippers because you see Jenna almost throughout the whole movie & nude most of the time.this movie is a big disappointment & such a huge waste of time.
Paul Andrews Evil Breed: The Legend of Samhain is set in Ireland (although shot in Canada) where Karen Douglas (Bobbie Phillips) a teacher from an American college of historical studies & five assorted students have flown to & rented a house to study, well the historical background of the area. Her boyfriend Paul (Howard Rosenstein) also turns up. The first day there & local caretaker (of what exactly?) Gary Saxon (Simon Peakcock) warns not to venture into the woods or leave the trial, no-one takes any notice which in the long run turns out to be a huge mistake as there is in actual fact the last mutant wart covered inbred relatives of the infamous cannibal Sawney Beane (look the name up on Wikipedia or the IMDb's 'Trivia' section for this since I can't be bothered to explain the legend) running around looking for their next meal & suitable breeding stock...Released under the simple title of Samhain here in the UK this Canadian production was written & originally edited & directed by Christian Viel & I say originally because according to the IMDb the film had large re-shoots with no input from Viel at all & not only was it partially re-shot but the original rough cut was edited down from just over 90 minutes to just under 80 minutes although Viel's original cut has apparently been circulating around the internet for several years which is frustrating because that with it's extra nudity & extreme gore sounds like the better film, the IMDb also says that a fight between Richard Grieco & a mutant was removed from the DVD (the only version commercially available at the moment), Mark Borchardt was cast in the film & his scenes were shot but again none appear in this 'finished' version & if that wasn't enough the attack on Barbara after she leaves the shower was also cut almost in it's entirety. After learning things like this it's perhaps no surprise that watching films can sometimes be a frustrating experience, whether you like Evil Breed: The Legend of Samhain or not who do you blame? Viel? It seems he had no input into the finished cut. The people who messed around with it? They were probably just trying to make a better film surely? Maybe it's just a case of too many cooks spoil the broth. I have to admit that I am slightly worried by the fact that Viel doesn't know what a cottage is, again look up the definition on Wikipedia if you don't believe me because the house the Americans stay at is anything but a cottage even though they keep referring to it as such. It's more like a mansion for gods sake! Also one character says to his girlfriend that she is reading a map backwards, how on Earth can you read a map backwards? You can have a printed map upside down for sure but not backwards, it's an impossibility! One more thing, Haggis is a Scottish dish not Irish! Getting over the backwoods dumb Irish stereotypes & some glaring issues that show the writers have no idea about the local area then I suppose Evil Breed: The Legend of Samhain is an OK teen slasher flick with some pretty memorable wart covered mutant cannibal monsters. Like many horror films you can split it into two sections, the opening forty minutes is dull, dull, dull. The last forty minutes really gets going with some decent stalk 'n' slash moments & half decent gore before the final two minutes ruins it all with an ending that I think is supposed to be a twist but makes absolutely no sense at all.Director Viel (& whoever did the re-shoots) do a decent job, it looks alright if a little cheap on occasion. For instance the opening sequence contains stock footage of Ireland which seems to have been edited from a VHS tape as the resolution is low & at one point you can actually see some tape damage as a thin line travels up the screen! Disappointingly Viel's version is apparently gorier than this but even so this has some decent blood & gore in it, a dismembered body is roasted above an open fire, a woman is ripped in half, there are decapitated heads, there are stabbings, a woman has her breast implant ripped out & a mutant tries to eat it & memorably some gets a machete up his bum & then the mutant proceeds to shove his hand up the new larger orifice & pull his intestines out which make lots of farting noises & then strangles the guy with them! I wouldn't call it scary although the scenes set at night & in the mutant liar (which remind me of similar scenes in The Hills Have Eyes II (2007)) are quite nice if unoriginal.Technically the film looks a little cheap at times but it's passable, just. Set in Ireland but shot in Montreal in Quebec in Canada & anyone familiar will Ireland & it's geography will be able to tell. There are four major porn stars in this, Ginger Lynn Allen, Chasey Lain, Taylor Hayles & Jenna Jameson who all have literally 100's of adult film credits between them. With a cast made up largely of porn stars you can probably guess the acting isn't that good.Evil Breed: The Legend of Samhain is a passable time waster if you don't go into it expecting too much, well it would actually help more if you went into it expect nothing. The first half is poor while the second half is pretty decent, there's one or two fairly impressive gore effects though Viel obviously has no idea how to write a film set in Ireland.
Scarecrow-88 Karen(Bobbie Phillips)mentions, after one of her kids gets out of hand with his lame annoying jokes, that she'll never survive this trip..boy, is she ever on the money. Karen is a school teacher taking her group of kids from the Shepley College of Historical Studies to the butt ugly locale of a run-down manor in the major dung-heap of Ireland..surely there are places in this country more appeasing to the senses than this?! The caretaker of the manor, Gary(Simon Peacock)warns Karen and her students to stay on the path and not to stray into the forest. There's a myth regarding the Sawney Bean Clan, a ritualistic druid cannibalistic inbred family celebrate Samhain(the end of Summer, October 31st)"Feast of the Dead" where sacrifices are needed to appease the spirits. Gary is supposedly clairvoyant, his cousin Pandora(Ginger Lynn Allen)tells us, because he was born on Samhain. Funny, because he sure doesn't see outcomes well or even give advice accurately. Nearly everyone dies(..even those who never stray from the path)and he doesn't even see his own gruesome fate. What this monster we hear breathing is a victim of way too much inbreeding..it's face resembles a malformed mushroom and it looks like a hideous reject from a Mad Max picture. It doesn't take long before the "evil breeder" is killing everyone. Paul(Howard Rosenstein)is Karen's love interest who made the wrong decision coming to Ireland without his girlfriend's prior knowledge.Horrible formula slasher doesn't stray from the norm. It's minuscule budget shows loudly and the characters are assembly line clichés churned out yet again to be slaughtered in the usual gory ways. Most of the violence flashes across the screen quickly with not much dwelling on the breeder's acts of death towards his victims. Lots of guts get pulled out during the fast edit cuts as one scene whisks to another. Seeing Gillian Leigh's gorgeous naked body for a moment or two isn't incentive enough to recommend it. Phil Price has the really irritating trickster character, Steve, often shedding bad jokes..how he is able to get Leigh's Barbara naked in the shower for some action is anyone's guess because I have no reason why he'd stand a chance with such a hottie. Brandi-Ann Milbrant has the fortunate role of Shae, the quiet virgin smart girl(who is also quite hot)who we know will be the one chosen by the screenplay to survive. Jenna Jameson drops by long enough to get her heart cut out of her chest(at least we see her breasts momentarily before her chest is opened up)with a few minor lines about two missing friends she's looking for. The film's main problem is that the story and character development grinds to a halt because it's realized that none of them are at all interesting so director Christian Viel just lets loose his monster to run rampant causing carnage, obliterating an entire cast almost in one fail swoop within ten minutes. Oh, and Richard Grieco has a minor opening cameo as a victim who strayed off the path to tent camp with his chick.
slayrrr666 "Samhain" is a slightly flawed, but decent film.**SPOILERS**On a field-trip to Ireland, Karen Douglas, (Bobbie Phillips) and classmates Shae, (Brandi-Anne Milbradt) Steve, (Phil Price) Jim, (Neil Napier) Tara, (Heidi Hawkins) Barbara, (Gillian Leigh) and her boyfriend Paul, (Howard Rosenstein) arrive at a small house in the countryside and begin a study on the surrounding druid rituals and structures. As their spend more and more time among the ruins and each other, they start splintering off into little relationships that form. As they start mysteriously disappearing in the woods surrounding the house, they band together and realize that a local mystery about a murderous family deep in the woods is true. The survivors band together to defeat the murderous family. The Good News: It's actually not that bad. The gore here is enough to satisfy. There's a knife in the mouth that exists all the way out the neck, an axe in the face, and two very brutal and inventive ones. They alone are the reason why this is a good movie, and are certainly on the creative and inventive scale of things. One character has their intestines ripped out from behind and strangled with them for an extended amount of time. The other one is a character has their chest sliced open and an implant removed. It should be easy to figure out what happens next, and I'll leave it at that. While not being as graphic as they could, it's good enough to give an idea of what they are. The setting is perfectly captured and is actually suspenseful at times. The first attack in the prologue is the best example. It's just dark enough so that it's hard to comprehend what is out there, but the off-screen twig snaps and bush rustling are enough to convince us that something is out there. It's actually pretty suspenseful throughout the rest as well. The escape at the end is pretty nerve-wracking, as is an assault on the house in the middle of the film. It works well with the extreme blood and gore. The last half hour of the film is very fast paced and more than makes up for most of the films' shortcomings. The action is so fast and furious that it just simply flies by and moves at a fast pace. It's certainly a great part of the movie as it gains momentum for the finale. The film is also notable for one other factor: the bevy of porn stars in it. The fact that they all take their clothes off is certainly not a bad thing. Combined all this together with a fairly creative storyline and it's not as bad as previously thought. The Bad News: I hate bringing in a film's background into a review, but this has to be brought up here. As good as it is, there is still the feeling that it was being held back. As gory as it already is, it should be gorier. As much nudity it shows, it should show more. As much exposition as there is, there should be more. It feels and looks like it's been cut up before it's been presented, which reading the rumors is a pretty accurate account at times. Looking at the film as is, though, this is the only main problem with the film. A couple of other scenes did nag at me, though. A complete scene-for-scene re-shoot of a famous sequence from a popular horror film is a big distraction, especially at how close the two scenes are to each other. It's not a major complaint, but it is one. It's not as bad as it could've been. The Final Verdict: Yes, the film is cut up beyond what it should've been, and there's a couple other small things here and there that could've changed, but it's still not as bad a film that it has received. Give this version a chance, it's not that bad, but don't see the other version first.Rated R: Graphic Violence, Nudity, Graphic Language and a short sex scene
