Solemplex To me, this movie is perfection.
Raetsonwe Redundant and unnecessary.
Sameer Callahan It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.
Rosie Searle It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Vonia This is such an underrated film. First and foremost, Will Ferrell. I barely recognized the man! Such an impressive performance of a struggling alcoholic in the throes of the addiction. It was subtle in such a way that really made viewers see how difficult it can be, but not making it completely depressing. Supporting performances by Laura Dern, Rebecca Hall, Michael Peña, & young Christopher Wallace were likewise stellar. Several heartfelt moments that were surprisingly moving. I admit to feeling tears a couple times. I love watching things that turn out far better than expected! And I have a newfound respect for Will Ferrell.
Carrie Knight Not a fan of Will Ferrell as a comedian but agree he did a good job. It suits his personality much better than when he tries to do comedy. There is no such thing as "dark comedy" that is a recent phenomena to excuse offensive entertainment. This should have been labeled drama only. Comedy means it's funny and many so called comedies are not funny unless you like laughing at others pain and misery and I don't. I don't "get" much of what is considered entertainment by the mainstream who just keeps turning out more krap that is beyond believable like a guy would just put up with his wife putting all his stuff out on the lawn like that and the city wouldn't make them clean it up within 24 hours. More depressing than entertaining to me.
redwhiteandblue1776 Boring, just boring. And depressing. I just kept waiting for something, ANYTHING to happen! All through the movie I thought there must be a real kicker here somewhere that will make this thing all make sense and shock me. But no. It just never happened. Why would anyone want to make a movie like this? I see that it had a really low budget. No wonder! It didn't require any crazy props, no exotic locations, no travel budget, no vehicles to crash during a car chase and no writers. I would think those associated with making this movie would be embarrassed to be listed in the credits. And whoever thought it should be listed as a comedy should lose their job. Don't waste your time with this one.
alexanderstephencraig I watched the trailer for this years ago and put it on a list to watch eventually. It popped up on Netflix and I gave it a go. The film was worth watching; it is a lot like the trailer which is a bit of a bummer because usually I like them to go more in-depth than what's offered by a two minute trailer. The film really was about an alcoholic battling his inner demon of alcoholism while his life falls apart. So really it's if he can overcome his addiction while at the lowest point in his life. I thought the acting was great across the board. Will Ferrell's character as you can imagine, constantly drinks. He drank so much in the film to where I could almost taste the beer making me sick, but that's on a positive note because I would imagine, that was the point of the excessiveness of the lead character drinking constantly. The film holds a lot of life lessons for multiple characters and has a lot of heart. To get to the end of the film it feels like a very dark road but that's clearly intentional. I wont say the end or give any context because people should really watch the film not read it. It's worth watching at least once.
