Catangro After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.
Donald Seymour This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
Kirandeep Yoder The joyful confection is coated in a sparkly gloss, bright enough to gleam from the darkest, most cynical corners.
Jibran Ali If there was an option to give 0 points I would have gladly rated that....oh my God...was that a movie ? The fact that Im writing this review after 5 years of watching the movie in 2010 is enough to tell you people how much I hated it....Terrible story, awful casting , terribly bad acting, copying plots, attire the list is very long...what added to these was very poor sound quality of the theater where I was watching these movie with my family...I choosed to sleep rather than going though the torture....please never ever make such a low quality movie....I feel sorry that legendary Jaya Prada was casted in such a poor quality movie....I guess this is one of the worst movies bollywood ever produced.
Souvik Chatterjee I'll probably be called 'promoter' of this film, or 'friend' of the director for writing this review as has been the case with the people who liked the film and dared to express themselves here. But the negative reviews here and from everywhere forces me to pen down my own thoughts about Drona. Let me start by saying that if there is any competitor for the LOR series (Loved them) or even Harry Potter series(stupid is what I call them), its this Film. Drona. A very brave attempt in introducing a subject untouched by Bollywood, but experimented with and explored by Hollywood. Drona is the story of a common man who realizes that he is the guard of 'Amrit', the potion of eternal life. His fight to save it from the hand of Asura (The demon) is the story of Drona. Abhisek Bachchan is quite convincing in this role, first as the common man, and then as the commander of Super-powers. He realizes his own strength and potential. Priyanka Chopra is beautiful as usual. We do not see women being action-heroines in Hindi Films. She dared to be different and how well! KK, as the 'abnormal' incarnation of Asura gives another awesome performance. Let me also say here that the people who are hitting KK for his 'worst acting ever' does not even realize the character he plays. He is supposed to be comical and dangerous at the same time. He is supposed to be insane. He is the incarnation of evil. What did you expect? Gabbar Singh? The story is tight set. You will not (or should I say should not?) feel lax at any point, expect for the unnecessary song-and-dance routines. There are two. Which bring me to the negative point of the film. If the director had to be courageous enough to make such a movie he should also have the guts to cut-off the totally unnecessary song-and-dance to please the front row audiences. The background music is fitting for this kind of a film. The music kind of introduces the concept of 'Theme' into this movie, which is NOT the case with most Bollywood ventures. Let me end by saying that if you have your expectations set right and if you like films in the line of LOR, this is definitely for you. Now let the bashing begin from the members! I'm ready to take them with a smile. 'I' loved Drona. Period.
ritwiksondhi Frankly speaking the day Drona was announced I was desperate to watch d movie....then about a year later its first trailer came...and yes it was awesome and I loved the VFX in the teaser....waited till the day it released...then next day extreme reviews abt the movie were published, some calling it bad cinema with VFX over substance and some as a breakthrough in Indian Cinema...bt doesn't matter reviews are not for ppl like me... I reached the theater with huge expectations....and then.... The movie starts well with excellent camera work....but then on it becomes boring .... m kind of person who hunts down entertainment even from a not so entertaining feature...but Drona defeated me...and I was in no position to get any kind of watchable factor from the movie ... it was promoted as an Indian fantasy-action-adventure.... but pls tell me does this movie actually have proper amount these ingredients..??? The makers called the movie as Visual effects extravagance... but it failed in that department also... the VFX were so immature..m in no way comparing it to Hollywood...but it deserves to be compared with any other Asian or Indian movies....the animation quality in this movie was below expectations...the first big animated scene of the movie where Riz Raizada clones himself was pathetic...bad animation ...it looked like a ammature have been hired to perform this task...so were the blood droplets effects ....only the Sand Particles effect was good ...but rest were average....what the hell David Bush was doing...I believe he had worked on the movie in an unprofessional manner... in the era where Bollywood is try to get near to Hollywood in terms of technology....such things let you down...Love Story 2050 had much better quality of VFX courtesy Sun Microsystems....So is the case with action sequences ..not exciting at all...except the first one with Priyanka. Now the story..the content was no different from any other average fantasy movie..bt what mattered was direction....which was Okay just like any good episode of Hatim(TV series on Star Plus) Director didn't succeed in creating an exciting environment which is required for such a theme...Though Goldie Behl must be appreciated for the thing that he didn't allow Priyanka-Abhishek love story to take over the real film...... I don't understand why is there always a need of songs in Indian movies!!! use of excess songs was annoying...especially Ooopcha Ooopcha song...it was irritating, not the song bt its placement ... there was no need of any song... the background score was enough.... I was yawning throughout these songs...even when Nanhe Nanhe played..which Ironically is my fav. And performances now...Kay kay Menon and Priyanka Chopra all the way....many ppl called Kay Kay as clown more than a villain...I strongly disagree.he was The JOKER...he was as funny and as good as The Joker from Batman series...Priyanka Chopra, first thing a well designed warrior look for her, she was awesome in all her action sequences and other scenes . .. Abhishek Bachhan didn't have much to do ..even though movie was on his character...Jaya Bachhan gave an OK OK appearance.Goldie Behl tried to bake a Black forest cake but got careless forgot to add sugar...
umihir firstly I would like to recommend IMDb- the site to have separate rating scheme, where films such as this can be rated in negatives.my plot - On an unfortunate evening, I decided to watch DRONA. God what wrong had I done for you to not stop me? Well as fate would have it I went ahead and bought a ticket for this master piece of a film. To make it worse i made a friend of mine to travel 4 hrs in traffic to come and watch this movie with me.we went in with no expectations. i don't like to go cinemas with a fixed head. i like to let the film surprise me... and yes it did... Fortunately I missed the first 5mins of the film. The film began with terrible blue petal flying into a house, a stupid kid fooling around with it and an uncle who only has a cameo of few seconds. Of course you remember the spider-man and his old man. this uncle does not say much and gladly dies soon without any significance of any kind. Cruel aunt and mean cousin brother are incharge of Drona's life. Priyanaka Chopra is secretly protecting the so-called protector of the universe. One day and damn foolish magician finds that DRONA is alive and he has the access to ELXIR. But before the magician can find Drona... Drona has to find himself? how philosophical? he figures out that he is a prince of some ruined land in India and he has a mother who is dressed distastefully as it can be. He father died of getting drowned and he is now responsible of saving the elixir from getting into wrong hands..The magician comes and exploits the maa beta angle. the Drona decides to give him the elixir for the life of his mom. now how brave is it ?and then a whole lot of confusing and frustrating events happen. in the end Drona kills the villain.... are we expected to be surprised???Acting was the worst... i think AB Jr can take acting coaching from Himesh. Priyanaka, looked neither hot sexy or ugly... KK... poor him.In all the film is a total humiliation of the audiences. Making movies such as this film should be considered terrorism.
