StyleSk8r At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
BelSports This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Kimball Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
Mr-Fusion At present, "Drive Hard" has a 4.5/10 rating on IMDb and a 1-star Netflix rating, which will probably leave you with visions of a trainwreck. Best case scenario, it's an entertaining one (like "Drive Angry"). But this is not in that league."Collateral" came to mind when Jane and Cusack psycho analyze each other in the car, but that's not a flattering comparison. Any actual characterization is buried under their tired buddy-comedy/drama/action . . . thing. The car chases have no tension, the leads share zero chemistry and they both look like they want to be far away from this (Cusack especially). The best I can say about this is "Eh, I've seen worse", but what kind of compliment is that? It's really not all that bad, I guess, just tepid and ineffectual.4/10
Peter West (Hamlet2) This appalling load of tripe leaves me wondering which is the worst. Brian Trenchard-Smith's writing or his directing. How on earth was anyone persuaded to fund this movie? The action sequences are straight out of film school year one and at times one can actually see the stunt driver's faces! And this guy is supposed to be an action director. Perhaps he was too exhausted from the effort of typing the tragic dialog and apologizing to his lead actors after they realized just what a mess they had landed themselves in. The twelve million dollars it reportedly cost to make would have been better spent on four movies at three million dollars each with decent scripts and directing. Let's pray Trenchard-Smith never gets another chance to inflict such horrors on the public. I have just watched this again it seems even worse than ever
Tony Heck "You didn't hire me, you kidnapped me." Peter Roberts (Jane) is a former race car driver who gave up his dream because his new wife didn't like it. He now spends his days giving driving lessons to teenagers. When Simon Keller (Cusack) shows up for a lesson Roberts isn't excited about the way he drives and takes the keys. When they stop at a bank so Keller can get money to pay he runs out with cops after him and tells Roberts to drive. Now Roberts is wanted has an accomplice but Keller says he will be able to make sure Roberts goes free but he has to help first. Going in I was thinking (probably like you) a movie with Cusack and Jane, woo hoo. Going off that expectation I was disappointed. The main problem with this movie is that is isn't consistent at all. Some parts are very exciting and entertaining while others are so slow moving I found my mind wandering. Surprisingly the best part of this movie is the dialog and interaction between Cusack and Jane. All of the action sequences are repetitive and generic. For a movie that talks about car racing there is really only one chase and it's not a very good one at all. There really isn't a whole lot else to say about this one. Overall, the reason to watch is the interaction between Cusack and Jane. It's actually almost better to just skip to those scenes and skip the rest of the movie. I was very disappointed with this. I give it a C.
Baleegh Shaw Watch the movie "Drive Hard" really liked the way movie was directed as it was action, fun and comedy all at the same time. I really enjoyed the movie from the start till the end. It was funny and hilarious and the story unfolded very smoothly. John Cusack being a thief collected information on a race car driver who stopped racing and running a driving school, he entered the driving school as a student and used the driving skills of the race car driver to loot the bank and all ended well in the end. A funny movie which can be watched with family and friends, so grab a coke and popcorn and enjoy the show. The acting of the daughter of the race car driver was pretty funny and good and all the character played their part very well. I will score the movie eight out of ten and recommend to you reader's as a good past time. Australian's did a fine job by hiring Mr. Cusack who literally put life to this movie and he needs commendation.
