Solemplex To me, this movie is perfection.
SpuffyWeb Sadly Over-hyped
Glucedee It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.
Zlatica One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
joshuadrake-39480 DISASTER L.A. : THE LAST ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE BEGINS HERE is really stupid, but it is good. When meteors strike Los Angeles, the massive destruction they cause is the least of the city's worries as it's inhabitants begin to fall deathly ill from the resulting smoke. But when the dead begin to reanimate and feed off the living, five friends make a run for the coast before they can be killed by the infected - or worse, by government forces who will fight to contain the situation at any cost - in any nightmarish no-holds barred thriller. That is just the plot and this movie is just super stupid, but it is really good and just fantastic and was really amazing. The direction of the movie is directed by Turner Clay, who also does the music, editing, cinematography and also executive produced this film. His direction is so incredibly scary that the dialogue he writes is just very scary and intense. The music is over-creepy as hell and the music has a great memorable feel to it that makes you believe that this is going to be a zombie movie. The acting is dreadful in a few areas, but hell, the actors really tried. Justin Ray, Jerod Meagher, Stefanie Estes, Ron Hankks, Michael Taber, Dennis Leech and Morgan Jackson plays the characters in the film and some of them does seem to drag in a few areas. The make-up for the zombies is really gory and scary, but this movie did not have a very large budget and that's what I like about some of these movies, is that with a few action movies, scary films, sci-fi, comedy, drama, musical or teen movies, that you don't need a very, big huge budget to make that kind of movie genre film that you wanted to do.The editing is awkward in a few areas, but it works for this kind of zombie flick and it really does show a lot in this feature presentation. The visuals, set design, story and plot is really amazing as hell, a little cheesy in a few areas, but it really does show as well.Overall, DISASTER L.A.: THE LAST ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE BEGINS HERE is just stupid, but also creepy and really good. My sister Shaliyah, who is a twin to the other sister, Aaliyah, says that this film is not stupid, but the other two movies involving zombies, ZOMBIELAND and WORLD WAR Z are stupid, but also really, really good.I give it a 4.5. out of 10.
Woodyanders A meteor shower causes fires throughout Los Angeles. The toxic smoke from said fires makes anyone who inhales it transform into a lethal flesh-eating zombie. A close-knit group of friends try to survive the chaotic zombie outbreak by escaping to the coast.Writer/director Tanner Clay keeps the taut and gripping story moving at a constant brisk pace, creates a strong mood of dread and doom, delivers a considerable amount of nerve-rattling suspense, and maintains a tough gritty tone throughout. Moreover, Clay relates the apocalyptic scenario at a poignant and intimate human level that gives the familiar, yet still effective and engrossing premise an extra potent emotional punch. The sound acting from a capable no-name cast holds the picture together, with especially praiseworthy contributions from Justin Roy as nice guy John, Jerod Meaghan as John's rowdy brother Turner, Ron Hanks as the antsy Scott, Michael Tabor as the geeky Adam, and Stefanie Estes as John's fetching ex-girlfriend Tori. The zombies look really creepy and the CGI effects are overall acceptable. Clay's dynamic widescreen cinematography makes exciting and energetic use of a hand-held camera. Clay's ominous pulsating score does the heart-pounding trick. Worth a watch for avid zombie horror fans.
drystyx This is one of the more refreshing sci-fi films in a long time, and one of the best zombie films since the original duo of "Night of the Living Dead" and the 1985 classic "Day of the Dead".It's a throwback to the old films which looked like original plots and characters. There is the look of the Lost Patrol and similar movies, most notably JOURNEY TO SHILOH, which had to make an impact on the writing of this. And that's what makes this a good film. It looks like one of the few sci-fi films that wasn't stolen from a more inspired writer and muddled into a formula film. There's also a throwback to the era of McQueen and his blob, to the old teenager flicks in which the young men and women had a sense of character and camaraderie. We can identify with the characters, save the one real creepy one who is an obvious villain. And we can see their motivation. The five young men, and the woman who is separated from them, are quite credible. They have some darkness in them, a realistic amount, the sort of the platoon in ALIENS if one makes an analogy. That's why this is an interesting story. I was pleasantly surprised.Needless to say, the beavis and butthead crowd won't like it, because it does have credible characters in an incredible situation. However, others will enjoy this. The weakness is the "villain", who looks out of place in a group of three dimensional characters. The hero is a bit wooden, but he's credible, because he does have a very believable motivation for his actions, and because he sees himself as a steward over the others. He says little, and does a lot of thinking, which does make sense in this incredible situation of zombies infesting their home city. The best character is his friend, Turner, who truly looks inspired by the character of Miller from JOURNEY TO SHILOH. In fact, the actor could be a look alike for Michael Sarrazin. For that matter, the lead actor has much the same mannerisms as James Caan in that film. Their three friends are likable as are the five friends from Shiloh.Perhaps this was unintentional, being simply inspired from the same sort of feeling. Whatever, it does work. For good or bad, it's "inspired" and looks "original", not like the usual movies that look like they were stolen from more creative minds. These people did what they did on their own, if I'm not mistaken.Turner makes the film work, because he is the one the viewer will probably identify with the most. He has the best survival instincts as well as a great sense of teamwork, not only trying to save himself, but everyone else he can.In a film where friends are whittle down, it's not really a spoiler to say most of them are whittled down. Aside from the throw away character of the villain, all are handled quite well. This looks like a B film that will eventually be a mainstay. For now, expect the usual jealousy of inferior minds. It could even become a better film than I give credit for. It's a keeper.
RichardFitswell First thing you should know about this movie is it is a one/two man outfit, a guy named Tyler and a guy named John, also the name of the main characters. Now you know the above, the movie gains an extra point for that, so in my eyes it goes from a 3 to a 4 purely because its been made on a low budget and by one/two people only. I'm a bit of a fan of B-movies, as generally, they try harder than the Hollywood classic-rip offs we have all grown used to.The effects are minimal, there is a small amount of blood, the plot/storyline makes little sense considering this is a zombie film. These are running zombies too which have the ability to open door knobs when it suits them but apparently cannot push open a shower door? The action is slow paced and dull, the characters are honestly misfits you wouldn't want around you during a zombie apocalypse. There is no character build up, characters die and I find myself not caring one bit because I could hardly remember their names.Decisions made by the characters seem stupid and not very well thought out, nothing is explained and the ending was abysmal, perhaps a small after credit scene showing survivors on the coast or a rebuild going on, the meteors taken away under cloth or something by the army? There was a lot of potential for this movie, and if this is the directors first movie making attempt I feel it is good in its own right, but it wouldn't be something you'd spend a good bit of money on.
