Lucybespro It is a performances centric movie
Aubrey Hackett While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.
Kamila Bell This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Curt Watching it is like watching the spectacle of a class clown at their best: you laugh at their jokes, instigate their defiance, and "ooooh" when they get in trouble.
Paul Magne Haakonsen I do enjoy comedies, and when I saw the cover for this movie and read the synopsis, I gave the movie a chance, because it sounded like it had potential to be something quite funny.Granted, there were some hilarious moments here and there throughout the course of the movie. But the overall picture just wasn't all that impressive, and it felt like something that had already been done countless times in other comedies. And that whole thing with a man playing a woman routine is sort of getting old, I mean it has already been done in movies such as "Big Mommas House", "Big Mommas House 2", "Mrs. Doubtfire", "White Chicks" and so forth. So it felt like the script was just written after a marathon of watching those movies. The acting in the movie was adequate, although I can't really claim to have found anyone being particularly outstanding in comparison to one another. Some of the characters were quite outstanding though, with Madea being the most outrageous and memorable, of course.Having a few good laughs here and there, wasn't hardly enough to lift up the movie, and for me it turned out be a less than mediocre movie experience. I did watch the entire movie, so yes, it does have some entertainment value. However, this is hardly a movie that I will return to watch a second time around.
Benjamin Black Obviously you can tell by my other reviews that I am a huge Tyler Perry fan. So naturally when my family and I heard that he was making a movie in 2005, we got really excited and went to see it in theaters opening weekend. What did I think of it? It was a great film, and it still is! I love movies and TV shows that are just as good, if not better, than the first time you saw it. This movie is just fantastic! Tyler Perry did an absolutely great job updating this story and transposing it over to film. I love seeing Charles at work; it showed more of his human side. When he's not mean and evil of Helena, he's at work being a good lawyer. I like the side story with Brian and Deborah. I love that Orlando isn't rich in this version! I love the message of forgiveness! I just love this movie! It's funny, it's dramatic, it's musical, it's inspiring! I love it! It's one of my favorite movies. So let's talk about why some people don't necessarily like this movie. I read one review on this website in which the writer stated he or she couldn't understand what this movie is supposed to be: is it a romance, a drama, a comedy? Well, it's life. Again, the strength in Tyler Perry's writing is the realism of the story and characters. Life is funny, life is serious. In life we meet our soul mates and experience romance. This movie is just an imitation of life. It's also really good to see Madea on the big screen! A lot of people got excited for this, but this may also be what some people don't like about the film. Some of you might be surprised to learn that a lot of people don't like Madea. ("WHAAAAAT?!? Madea is unliked?! How is that possible?" I know, just hold on.) One reason this might be is because we've never seen a character like Madea in mainstream entertainment before. We've seen the loving grandparent, the wise grandparent, and the unkind grandparent hundreds of times. We've never seen a grandparent like Madea in movies before, and people will always react differently to something new. You'll have your lovers and your haters alike.I think it's interesting because we all know someone like Madea. Whether it's a man or a woman, a grandparent or a friend, we know someone like Madea. So then, why do people have a problem with a character this real? I don't know, and maybe I'll never know or understand. Regardless, however, this movie is absolutely fantastic! I think you'll enjoy it! BOOYIKA!
Raul Faust A couple is getting into divorce, when the woman still loves the man and doesn't want to finish the marriage. You must be aware of how dramatic and sad it can be. I believe women who had been through a divorce are more likely to enjoy this film, since I'm just a poor 19 year old guy who hasn't dated for more than three months."Diary of a Mad Black Woman" is a very well written film that is dramatic at most scenes, but we still have some few funny scenes-- such as the dinner's conversation after Charles' recuperation. The cast is extremely competent, with a special congratulations to Kimberly Elise that is excellent in many scenes. I didn't like the fact that the dinner's scene looked like a Shakespearian monologue, the filmmakers should have been more careful in there. Also, I didn't like that many references to god and religion, since I'm an atheist and feel very cheated with this Christian mentions-- which doesn't mean I don't respect people who are in trouble and look for help in a church, I can understand that and I would probably do the same if I believed. After all, this is a good movie with some few flaws, but if you're looking for a romantic drama, this is a good choice.
christian mailloux I recently came upon this movie while surfing channels in my Jamaica hotel room. The movie was about 30 seconds in, so I thought I'd give it a try. My first impression was one of utter disappointment. The writing, acting, and directing were at a glance completely awful. But I thought I'd stick with it; maybe it would get better. And I have to say, by the end, I hadn't changed my mind. And heres why: The characters. Every single character in the film was completely unbelievable, and I could not relate with any of them. Now I know some of the characters were meant to be ridiculous, but not to the extent they were. Lets take Helen. The star of the whole movie, the one you are supposed to root for. She's the most moody woman on the planet, shes vindictive, mean, snappy. And why Orlando would vie for her love after she treated him the way she did all throughout the movie is beyond me.Now let's take the crack head mother. What was her name again? I don't remember because she was on screen for an upwards of 3 minutes. So, at the end of the film, she spends one, yes, ONE night in rehab, sings a gospel tune, and is completely cleansed of her addiction. Now, I've seen sappy, ridiculous endings a lot, but this one was unbearable. The over the top Christian undertone (or was it meant to be an overtone?) was completely unnecessary, and took away from the film. The line "Im a good Christian woman" In one of the diary narrative scenes was out of place, and had no effect other than to try and draw in a Christian audience.Overall, this movie was bad. One of the worst movies I've ever seen, to be sure.
