HomeyTao For having a relatively low budget, the film's style and overall art direction are immensely impressive.
ChanFamous I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
Stephan Hammond It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
Loui Blair It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.
Rosettes I picked it up as a weekday movie because it looked okay and it was a pleasant surprise to see Rachel Blakely in the opening scenes but soon after that, she was one of the only two reasons why I continued to watch the movie. The second was to see what blatant flaw they would commit next.Hardly anything in the movie makes sense, from the action of the heros to those of the crooks followed on by those of the supporting parties. It's a world that exists the way it does because the movie needs it to exist that way to tell a story that is not realistic. I realize that most movies are like that, altering the universe to a degree so the situation can take place, but this one does it to such an extent that it might as well take place on another planet that developed entirely differently from Earth. It MIGHT be acceptable as a child's movie, but to any adult, especially those who know that terrorism existed well before 9/11, this movie can make one sick to their stomach.
ofjeworstlust *ONE BIG SPOILER*Gee, isn't the plot like Speed-2? Hasn't this done before a lot of times? That feeling came to mind before and after watching this low budget flick. You believe a secret agent gets authorisation to transmit through a radio with his son back home, when no-one else gets an opportunity to communicate with the ship? Don't you see the consequences of this possibility, miles ahead? It's the obvious low budget characteristic that annoyed me in the beginning of the movie. People talking about who they are and what they are going to do (Something like: "as a 10 year-experienced secret agent I wil blablabla") instead of stories building up, are indications of a weak plot.An agent that saves a ship from exploding by driving a bomb away a mile or so is praised to have saved everyone. Need I say more? Okay, the broken relationships, struggles between colleagues and family also had to be included to please the female audience. For males: just dumb explosions and gunstuff. The dvdbox-cover fooled me, don't make the same mistake! (Attack on the queen, also with the title Counterstrike, makes one think again)
WSRBFan The movie is weak and contrived but this lady shines! Not only is Rachel Blakely gorgeous to look at as Brittany Cooper but she's quite a wonderful actress and sometimes, this critic feels, overlooked. Hope to see her again in better material and, hopefully, with someone like Will Snow, her co-star in THE LOST WORLD television show. It's also interesting to see a great many unknown and known Australian actors in the cast which may be familiar if you ever watched HERCULES, XENA. BEASTMASTER or even THE LOST WORLD and TALES OF THE SOUTH SEAS. I think spotting the talent in COUNTERSTRIKE was even more fun than the actual movie!
SunKrux The main reason I finally watched this movie is because of the actress who played Brittany, the ship's security chief...Rachel Blakely. She frellin' ROCKS! Of course...watching Joe Lando was a bonus, hubba hubba. But the story and script were a bit too cheesy for my tastes and I like cheesy! LOL It was a nice cheesy diversion for a couple of hours...but it could have been so much better. As for the little know actors factor...I've seen a few shows from Australia so a lot of the actors in this flick were familiar to me. Most of them have done guest spots on "Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World" and on "FarScape". So it was fun playing "spot the TLW/FS guestie" while watching this flick. I give it a 5. Wasn't terrible, but wasn't a blow me away kind of action flick. I have a feeling that several of the cast were thinking "rent check" while making this flick. LOL
