ThedevilChoose When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
StyleSk8r At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
Kaydan Christian A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
notesiwright I absolutely love this movie and I can't find it anywhere online but I think about it all the time. I miss it. I love it. Seems that it is not in any way shape or form popular but I wish it were around somewhere. It's amazing. My favourite film for sure. I need to watch it again. I've watched it countless times in the past from about age 12-16. Highly recommend. I really do wonder why this film has gathered so much negativity though.
mksusan7 I found this movie to be pretty suspenseful and overall an okay flick. But it was very irritating how the husband treated Victoria (the lead female). *SPOILER* He won't believe a word she says even when she says she actually saw a girl in the basement next door. He then just basically says you are crazy me and our daughter are out of here bye. She is pleading for help and for him to believe her and he just doesn't even seem to care and just goes to leave. Personally I would have an awful time forgiving my husband for treating me that way. But of course they are all okay in the end. However, the story was decently written and you really weren't completely sure what was going on and who knew about it until the end. Acting was pretty good as well. I liked that the heroine was a little tougher than they usually make this type of character. She was always on her toes expecting the worst instead of making dumb mistakes. The bad guy in the film was so creepy and disturbing he did an excellent job at his role. *SPOILER* At the end when he falls down the stairs I was a little disappointed he didn't get hurt more. I was hoping maybe our main gal would take his stupid shovel and whack him around a few times before calling the cops. Overall I'd watch again.
ForVirg I have to agree with the other reviewers who point out how utterly implausible this movie is. Given that true events inspired this script, I would have expected so very much more. I'd rather watch a documentary on Bio or ID about actual stories such as this one. They are far more interesting.Perhaps the biggest flaw to me is that the main character is absolutely disgustingly witchy. I can't agree with the other reviewer enough (spell that with a capital B--good line).**spoilers follow** It's a good thing I don't have a neighbor like that, because I'd probably snap and whack her over the head with a shovel when I found her digging up my dead dog the very first day she lived next door! The villain is a far more sympathetic and likable character, and sadly I don't believe that's done on purpose. If it was done purposefully, then there's even more to dislike since the writers failed miserably at making that point. If anyone can identify with this lead character, I feel sorry for their neighbors. The only good thing about the 2 hours wasted on this movie is getting some small amount of glee in rooting for the bad guy against the moronic idiots from the city.
guil fisher For certainly the leading lady doesn't. I found myself rooting for the villain. For certainly Michael Hogan gave an outstanding performance. He had me glued to every move and line he uttered. With a sensitive face and distinguished looks he was wonderful. Emma Caulfield was just awful. Hard faced, overly made up (check a close up of her heavy mascara eyes) in every scene wearing skin tight jeans and tee shirts (she has grown up daughter) and her too long straight bleached stringy hair covering her face most of the time. She was downright obnoxious in this film and I was praying someone would get rid of her. Why do all these actresses and female news people have the same look? Bleached hair, too long, straight as though they just woke up and needed to brush their hair. It's a terrible look and it's passing it on to all our younger women to copy. I can count every other female on the street looking the same and talking on a cell phone. The all American woman. Anyway, I couldn't stand Caulfield's look and acting. David James Elliott fared better and could have been better had he had a decent leading lady. Melanie Papolia as the daughter seemed more mature than her mother. Erica Carroll didn't have much to do, but it was a pleasure to watch this lady on screen.Get rid of Caulfield. Please LMN, no more of her.
