Reviews

Protraph Lack of good storyline.
Invaderbank The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.
Erica Derrick By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
Lela The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.
Danii Disaster Saw the original (a Korean movie called "301/302") years ago as part of my research in preparation for working with patients with eating disorders at a psych unit.Didn't know that "Compulsion" was a remake of it until I started watching it. I was actually looking to watch the British movie of the same title (starring Ray Winstone and Parminder Nagra), but came across this one, and I'm glad I did.It has since become one of my favourite movies. A unique and original story of two people with different obsessions around food (one loves it to death, the other hates it to death - literally). But a thriller? Seriously? No way. It's pure drama. Wonderful, explorable characters and top-notch acting. Loved Heather Graham in this - so vivid and charismatic. Moss was great, too.All in all, a great flick for drama-lovers, particularly those interested in mental disorders (Amy = OCD; Saffron = OCD and bulimia). Just don't expect much "action" - there are no "thrills" in this thriller. Like I said, - it's pure drama.
Littlemicki I found this movie on Netflix, with only two stars so I didn't have high expectations. But I liked the actors so I gave it a chance. I can see why a lot of people don't get this film. It's dark and twisted, and some parts you have to use your imagination about what happened. It doesn't spoon feed you anything. It also starts out quite funny, so audiences might be surprised when it gets serious. Heather Graham is surprisingly good in this movie. I've really only known her for playing air headed characters, and at first that's what you get. But she has more range than I originally gave her credit for as the somewhat unbalanced Amy. Carrie-Anne Moss is brilliant as the tortured Saffron. My heart ached for her by the end. The acting really is superb, and the storyline is not your usual fare. But well worth a watch.
ghiz876 The story of two disturbed women whose lives end up intertwining. Or to be precise, one obsessive and possibly delusional woman and another who simply has had a hard life. When the psychotic of the two, Amy, develops a fascination with her reclusive neighbour, Saffron, she shows it through trying to push her love of food on to her. What follows is a rather bizarre but intriguing series of events.A great aspect of this film is that I believe it's open to interpretation. Amy clearly doesn't have the tightest grip on reality, in fact we are often shown glimpses into her head where an imaginary audience is cheering her on. Combine this with the plot and characters going in the strangest of directions and the sceptical comments of a particular other character and the film raises the question of how much of it is in Amy's head and how much of it is simply events going in such a unique way.Admittedly, this film is probably a bit of an acquired taste(ha, get it). It's labelled a thriller, which is partly true but the vast majority of it is a character study. If you like analysing the mindsets of flawed characters, this film is for you. Worth re-watching if you want to look at things from a different angle.
o Harlan I see why it gets bad reviews as this aims to a very limited audience. If you thought this was going to be a fun and wacky chick flick with traditionally sympathetic characters, you were horribly, horribly wrong.Everything but the script is damn near perfect, and the script is not terrible either. Not fantastic, but hand in hand with the good acting, fitting soundtrack and beautiful cinematography; it's a very enjoyable film.IF you're the target audience. If you're looking for something that dares be different from the rest of the lot, this movie is for you! Also, Joe Mantegna plays a detective in this. If you're a Criminal Minds fan you could watch it just to get a kick out of thinking of it as a crossover between this film and CM.
