Forumrxes Yo, there's no way for me to review this film without saying, take your *insert ethnicity + "ass" here* to see this film, like now. You have to see it in order to know what you're really messing with.
Jonah Abbott There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
bnsw19 I first watched this film two years ago and it has been haunting me ever since; I watched it again last night... It's a bleak story beautifully told and there's the paradox. I consider it the second leg of Inarritu's stool of films - the first (Babel, Amores Perros, 21 Grams) was distinguished by elliptical, multi-layered story-telling and the third (The Revenant, Birdman) by a linear narrative and this one by its earthy, implicit social commentary with a touch of magic realism. What makes it such a stand-out film for me are the dialogue/script - so natural and economical - the direction and production - one smells the sweat - and, above all, the acting - Bardem delivers the performance of a life-time. He deserves to be remembered for this (and The Sea Inside) above the pastiche Bond villain in Skyfall.
said-buet10 Iñárritu has always been good and this one from him is no different. The acting of Javier Bardem paired with this amazing director resulted in a emotional masterpiece. The story is sad and Javier's acting makes sure the audience experience the emotions he is going through. The story is touching and its very unpredictable with the exception of the ending.Good movie and perhaps best of Javier's acting so far.
aquauver It is too much constraint to him.In addition to a cancer, his financial situation is so bad,and he has two lovely children to look after. As a matter of fact, their mom have to take care of them, and definitely have a responsibility to it. But she is not the person. She has no rights and qualifications.Nobody save his life and reverse this situation. All he can do is pray.No answer.During the time ,his disease is getting worse. It is inevitable.Everyone know, but including me ,almost spectators pray to reverse his situation. This movie have a ability to make us think like this.
SnoopyStyle Uxbal (Javier Bardem) lives in a rundown Barcelona apartment with his two kids, Ana and Mateo. He's involved with illegal sweat shop producing knockoffs and selling the goods on the streets. He gets messages from the dead. He is diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer. His criminal work gets worst with bodies piling up. He allows Ige and her baby to stay at his apartment. His kids' drunken mother Marambra has mental issues and he has nobody to leave them with.Director Alejandro González Iñárritu is trying too hard. The subject matter is already dark and complex enough. His style adds even more dark grittiness to this sad depressing movie. Bardem does the gruff and harried character to his best. All of it overwhelms me and I got a bit tired of it.
