Kien Navarro Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
adonis98-743-186503 In order to protect a beautiful woman and her son from a robber, a male FBI agent disguises himself as a large grandmother. Big Momma's House benefits easily by Martlin Lawrence's terrific comedic abilities but also a pretty damn fun and hilarious storyline also they did a pretty good job making the costume that Lawrence had to wear which reminded me a bit some of the things that Eddie Murphy was doing with his Nutty Professor movies as well. If you like comedies? You're definitely going to enjoy this but if not? Probably skip it for sure. (10/10)
nadinesalakovv Movie Plot: An FBI Agent goes undercover to catch a criminal.Review: Big Momma's House is well-acted, well-directed, and has a decent movie plot. Some professional critics complained that the movie portrays a negative view on older big black women, these critics are looking too deep into something that isn't there, two questions i have for them is "Did you see the movie?" and "Did you read the movie plot?". The comedy factor isn't a 10 out of 10, it is more of a 5 out of 10. This flick is watchable and entertaining, there are a couple of scenes that are vile and unnecessary, and some of the language is gross, but overall if you want something light - then it's worth watching. Big Momma's House isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it is re-watchable and is funny at times, there are cringeworthy moments, but if you can handle that then it's all good. The lyrical rap/hip hop soundtrack is awful with terrible lyrics, but that is what you get with secular comedies. It is what it is.
John Brooks So this is a black version of Mrs Doubtfire 7 years later with then-on form funny-man Martin Lawrence in a crime-type intrigue rather than purely family related like the aforementioned Robin Williams starring comedy. Two major concerns: if you're going to be a copycat of another film in spirit, you might as well make it really funny to compensate for stealing the idea. This isn't very funny. You could be very lenient and willing to laugh but it just isn't there as the creators focused more on the plot - which is functional but not impressive in any way.The second thing is flaws like introducing Martin Lawrence's character (FBI, not Big Momma) way too hastily into that female lead character's life and her kid's. It's a major fault with Hollywood comedies, that they'll produce by the numbers disposable comedy and sell it like buns at the bakery, and don't focus nearly enough attention on story structure and development of characters' relationships, so this is just ridiculously rushed and completely completely fictional even in the part that's supposed to be realistic. It's not boring to watch, but way too rushed and facile.A generous 3/10.
billcr12 Martin Lawrence is FBI agent, Malcolm Turner, and he specializes in going undercover in disguise. He gets a case involving missing money which turns out to be tied up with a former girlfriend of the bank robber named Lester. Sherry(Nia Long) is implicated in the robbery of the bank, and her grandmother, big momma has a large house which Malcolm is staking out. When big momma leaves for a couple of weeks, Malcolm puts on a dress a wig and impersonates the large woman, even to the point of fooling Sherry and her ten year old son. She believes that grandma is acting strange due to senility. Lawrence is a talented comic, and he does well as the cross dressing FBI agent, and Nia Long is beautiful as the love interest. I have an allergy to men dressing as women, whether it's old clips of Milton Berle, or Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon in the horrendous, Some Like it Hot, I am not amused. Big Momma's House is just another run of the mill slapstick comedy, and a 5/10.
